Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/Duncan
Length: 4631 words

Author Website:MacGeorge's website is down at this time, but her stories are found at Highlander Fiction

A few years ago a group of lovely stories were written in response to a 'bar challenge' issued by Unovis. This story is one of those, and written compellingly from Methos' POV.

In the intro MacGeorge suggests "Turns" might lack originality, but I think that it's an iconic Highlander gem from a very shiny pencil.

06:00 pm How to Bind a Strain by Utopian Trunks (NC-17)
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Length: 4,160 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] utopiantrunks
Author Website: East of Sanity

Why this must be read:

I want to make one more stop at "The Gurnius Affair": another amazing aftermath story, this time slash.

Illya is a hard man. In San Rico he did what he had to do. He will not, he cannot apologize, but he knows what Napoleon saw in Colonel Nexor's eyes. Napoleon remembers too, he doesn't want to, a little distance is what he's looking for. But Illya is pushing him, and keeps on pushing him, until finally his rage at what happened is exposed...

Theirs is a tough, complicated relationship: partners, friends, occasional lovers--the need that draws them together unacknowledged. [livejournal.com profile] utopiantrunks has written a fierce, gut-wrenching story of Napoleon and Illya caught in a personal battle made desperate by the unvoiced fear that something vital to them has already been irrevocably broken.

Illya wrenched his face to the side and gasped for breath. "Stop," he said, when Napoleon's mouth moved to his throat and his hands slid down Illya's sides. "Napoleon--" He pushed his partner to arm's length. For a moment, they looked at each other, breathing heavily. Illya scowled. "You looked like a fool on that table. No control. No hint of your training. Whining for my help like a rank amateur."

Napoleon knocked Illya's hands aside and slammed his forearms into the wall either side of Illya's head, pinning the smaller man with the full length of his body.

Illya sneered and turned his head away. "You're not worth touching."

07:30 pm Waiting by Kipler (G)
Fandom: THE X-FILES
Characters/Pairing: Mulder/Scully, Skinner
Length: 33K
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: is here.
Why this must be read: It's an actual casefile set during the summer after Gethsemane, and written during the summer between the airing of Gethsemane and Redux. That in itself is pretty freaking cool. But it's the writing, on every level, which makes this fic brilliant. Kipler writes a Scully who is very believably in the stages of disintegration - bodily, mentally. Meanwhile, she seamlessly brings together all the elements of the X-Files up to that point in the story in a way that is subtle, stunning, and incredibly eerie to behold. Kipler's writing is evocative. Her story feels like one muscle, under the surface of which innumerable tensions are at work. This is one of those wonderful fics where, IMO, Scully is just as precisely yet even more magnificently Scully than she is in canon.

Waiting (or on gossamer if you find this format distracting.)
