. Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Bodie/Doyle Length: 1676 words Author on LJ: erushiAuthor Website: Some of her stories can be found here. Why this must be read:Reading Erushi’s work is like experiencing the literary equivalent of a magic act, a seemingly effortless lilting lyricism grounded in a sharp observation of life’s everyday mundanities. I cannot recommend the experience enough. Never having been fond of Mondays (mornings that begin obscenely early, afternoons that move too slowly), Doyle is inclined to treat its latest offering with suspicion. The tea is bitter as all office tea is, and cold, and the tart (100% organic, reads the crinkly brown paper wrapping in loopy letters) contains more over-baked butter and crumbs than it does apple and cinnamon. Bodie is also strangely absent.Of Tea, Tarts, and Thursday.

Fandom: RUROUNI KENSHIN Pairing: None Length: 98K Author on LJ: siriusfan13 Author Website: FanFiction.netWhy this is a must read: This is a time travel fic. I just love time travel in any fandom so of course, this one sucked me right in. Through the fertile imagination of siriusfan13 the story takes current day Kenshin, sends him back in time twelve years, and brings the Battousai into the present. siriusfan13 brings the angst as well as some great action scenes that make this story hard to put down. There's all sorts of great interaction (no yaoi though) between Sanosuke and Battousai as well as a wee little plot twist that really tied it up nicely. ( Wee snippet )Out of Time

Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Obi-Wan Kenobi/Siri Tachi Length: 7249 words Author on LJ: I don't think he or she has one. Author Website: Master FiclistWhy this must be read:Both the EU, in the form of Jude Watson's character, General Siri Tachi, and the Lucas animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, take shape as inspiring this fic. Characters, sure they are borrowed and made to dance for an author, but also the setting of wartime enhances this story: tents, military protocol, the chain of command, small bits of chivalry from commander to commander, all these things contribute to a story which is labeled 'Fluffy Siriwan.' General Siri Tachi is beleaguered upon a planet by the mundane chore of providing for her troops, as they are hungry, and the Governor of Dhakar refuses to sell food. Siri complains to Obi-Wan and the saying 'no good deed ever goes unpunished' could apply to the results of Obi-Wan's heartfelt sympathy. This is light and romantic, and the touches of humor understated, with a mystery of the sort that Columbo used to tackle: we know who did what, we just don't know how Columbo/Siri is going to solve the mystery. Numerous clones help her effort. Breath of Heaven: A delivery and a deliverance

Fandom: HIGHLANDER Pairing: Methos/Rebecca (as Xanthia of Miletus), Horsemen mentioned Length: 3,702 words total Author on LJ: grachonokAuthor Website: Works as Black Rook at ff.net Why this must be read: As you can perhaps tell from my previous recs this month, I'm a Methos fan. I'm also a fan of Rebecca; even though she only appeared in two episodes, she had deep ties to and influence over many of the other immortals. This tale is, to me, the best of Methos and Rebecca and their history together. Set in the midst of tumultuous times in ancient Rome (with a flashback to ancient Greece and a flashforward to the 1990s), this tale has a lot of things that made Highlander great: Methos dealing with his time as one of the Four Horsemen, friends meeting again and again throughout eternity, a bittersweet epilogue after one of the friends is gone forever, and a slight pondering of what happens to the souls (very distinct from Quickenings) of immortals after their final death. Fandom: MARVEL UNIVERSE: IRON MAN MOVIEVERSE Pairing: Gen; Pepper Potts, Original Character, Tony Stark Length: 2,216 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: N/A Why this must be read:This piece is just hilarious, who knew a story about Pepper Potts being kidnapped could be so funny? Pepper's point of view is just perfect here and the author's OC!kidnapper really shines in this one-shot. So, somewhere in between becoming personal secretary to one of the most powerful men in the world, and said man becoming a self-proclaimed superhero, Pepper had accepted that fact that one day she was going to be kidnapped. That Time with the Dobermans (and the Hole in the Wall)

Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Gibbs/DiNozzo Length: around 1700 words Author on LJ: crimsonquills Author Website: Crimson QuillsWhy this must be read: Nix is one of those must-read authors in every fandom she writes in. I first discovered her Man from U.N.C.L.E. fan fiction and threw a little temper tantrum when I discovered she wasn't writing for MFU anymore and had moved on to NCIS. And then I started reading her NCIS fiction and wanted her to keep writing both. Sadly, for us, she's moved on again but she's left us with a plethora of incredibly hot, well-written, in character stories that demand to be re-read on a regular basis. This is one of the few stories of hers that hasn't been rec'd yet but it's certainly not because it's lacking in anyway and I'm just so pleased to be able to be the one to share it with everyone. It's pure sex from beginning to end. It's so well-written that you can hear them in your head while you're reading it. And that ain't bad. Here's a brief sample: "Jealous?" Tony asked, stretching his arms out over his head.
Gibbs grabbed the hem of Tony's shirt and yanked it off over his head none too gently. Tony had to squirm a little on the bed to help it come off. "Sure," he responded. "That's what you wanted, wasn't it?"
Tony froze, suddenly uncertain. He never quite knew how Gibbs would react when he realized he was being manipulated.Zealous and Jealous are Just One Letter Different

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: gen Length: 822 words Author on LJ: formerly mcee, now little_bulletsAuthor Website: http://www.delicious.com/little_idolsWhy this must be read:I've picked this story, originally posted in 2006, for three reasons. First, it's a lovely Sam POV piece that reminds me of all the family road trips I spent stretched out in the backseat: His eyes follow, half-focused, the wobble of a power line that runs along the road, stark black against a sky the shade of a crayon. When he stops thinking about it -- and he has -- it seems like the line is running with them, dipping lower in between posts then jerking back up at regular intervals, dotted with blackbirds. The angle he's at has removed all context, all perspective; three states ago he knew where they were, but now the square of sky through the car window is comfortingly anonymous. Second, it has this killer two-line paragraph: This was back when Dean's answer to everything regarding Dad was, I'll tell you when you're older. Sam never had the heart to tell him he'd always be the youngest. Finally, because even though it was written during the first season it resonates strongly with the fifth-season finale -- call it a case of fannish precognition at work. Little Toy Soldiers

Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: Frank/Gerard, Mikey/Alicia, past Mikey/Pete Length: 27,110 words Author on LJ: tuesdaysgoneAuthor Website: Fic Links & on AO3Why this must be read:A series of brutal murders calls Detective Frank Iero back to active duty and he must find the killer while confronting people from his past and dealing with his attraction to Gerard, older brother of his estranged friend Mikey. This is another fabulous story from last year's Big Bang. It's gritty and intense and all the characterisations are spot-on - like this was how these guys would've turned out if they'd lived in this universe. And I loved how both the murder case and Frank & Gerard's emotional drama were equally important to the story.
