Fandom: MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Pairing: None Length: about 1950 words Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/94098/DeniseVWhy this must be read:This, in my opinion, is the most "canonish" of all the various takes/aftertakes I have ever read on THE GURNIUS AFFAIR. Thus I consider it a great way to close out my trio of recommended fics on this particular theme. Napoleon is exhausted and a bit "off" from the torture that occurred during the affair, but still trusting of Illya deep-down to his soul. Illya feels a bit uncomfortable with what he had to do during the Gurnius Affair, but he isn't lolling in guilt or bubbling over with angst. This tale is short and wonderfully simple, yet completely effective and affecting. "Illya, I trust you. You are the best agent I know, excluding yours truly, of course." Napoleon tried his dazzling smile on his partner, though he knew the tenor of the conversation and the charcoal gray circles under his eyes betrayed the normally highly consistent and effective results he'd grown accustomed to. Trust was utmost in their relationship. Trust mixed with immeasurable mutual admiration for their skill and their commitment to the hard and dangerous work. And added to the trust and admiration, to make their friendship whole and immune to something as pedestrian as electro-shock, was a whole lot of love. Never admitted to, certainly never spoken of, and almost never demonstrated in any physical sense, save the occasional extra-long hold on an assist up from a raging river or when one of them suffered an injury and could not get up on his own. An unspoken love, not noticeable in any way to those outside their tight circle of two. A circle mighty in its minuteness, as was necessary in their line of work. But known to them, and that was indeed all that mattered. Repercussions

FANDOM: DUE SOUTH Pairing: none, Mort gen Length: 4220 words Author on LJ: vienna_waits Author website: here
Why this must be read:
Fanfic fires on all cylinders when familiar characters are used to explore what was left unexplored (or less explored) in the original work, and when the writing is excellent. The author accomplishes both with this story, which also transcends the fandom itself to have this universal theme of strength and triumph. vienna_waits handles the dark subject matter unflinchingly, yet with sensitivity. Please read the warnings, however.

Sorry guys! I had a bit of a breakdown, but the Van's running alright now, if a tad slowly. I'm your friendly neighborhood white-collar fanfiction provider for the month! To start, something a bit more general: _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fandom: White Collar Pairing: Gen or Peter/Neal Author on LJ: misura Author's Website: Her fanfiction on AO3 Summary: Neal knows it's never wise to make absolutely everyone like you. Why this must be read: Because it's a fascinating look at Neal and why he does the things he does, and why he hasn't charmed Jones and Cruz so terribly much. Because it shows that Neal knows the system and how to manipulate it. In short, because it is a picture of Neal Caffrey: Con Man, that isn't always shown. ETA: So, apparently I hit a pothole or something. Anyway, here's the fic.

Fandom: WHITE COLLAR Pairing: N/A, gen (Peter/Elizabeth) Author on LJ: jmtorres Author's Website: on the AO3Summary: A story of missed connections, in which Peter doesn't know what to say, Neal doesn't seem to want to hear it, and Elizabethan translation proves vital. Why this must be read: Okay, so this is one of my absolute favorite stories in this fandom. It's an AU, but it fits into canon so well that it could very well be canon, for all we know. I love it. So, so much. I can't tell you much more, or it'll spoil it, but suffice it to say that this story makes Peter and Neal's relationship make so. much. sense. Tempting Tidbit / Excerpt: "Hey, boss, how come I never get lasagna invites?" Cruz asks--not, Peter thinks, out of any real feeling of being left out; more as a sarcastic stinger to tell him he's being unprofessional about Neal. It's funny that lasagna sounds more warning bells than the argument which Peter (and Neal, he's pretty sure) felt didn't so much skirt dangerous territory as wander directly through it. Peter figures the truth is reasonable recourse here. "Because you don't inspire my wife to want to pinch your cheeks and fatten you up," he rallies. ETA: HOLY SHIT FACEPALM. Um. Here's the fic!

Fandom: TORCHWOOD Character(s)/Pairing(s): Rhys/Ianto/Gwen Length: ~4300 words. Author on LJ: 51stcenturyfoxAuthor Website: LJ Masterlist / AO3Why this must be read:Because it's a warm and funny story, in which—as the summary puts it—three adorable Welsh people have sex. The sex and the lead-up to it are nicely realistic and believable, without being too awkward. The events, as seen from Ianto's slightly bemused POV, proceed at an easy, natural pace without getting bogged down in unnecessary details. Between those things, the hot sex, and the snappy dialogue, this story is a joy to read. Excerpt: "Not JACK, though," Rhys might have insisted, and Ianto imagined her eyes going wide in the half-dark of their bedroom. Well, of course not. But a bloke? Not some WPC from the Constabulary or one of her bridesmaid girlfriends she'd known since she was fourteen?
"Not Andy either," she might have said, and maybe then she'd turned to Rhys and suggested Ianto, because hadn't she told him he was "just lovely" more than a few times and liked the way it had made him smile? He had a partner too, but a partner who would understand. Ianto was a good mate with a non-jealous partner and who wasn't likely to boil bunnies or bring it up at the Christmas party if it all went pear-shaped. The Assist

Fandom: White Collar Pairing: N/A; Gen (Peter/Elizabeth) Author on LJ: vain_glorious Author's Website: White Collar fic here Summary:
“You will never guess what I stole,” Neal’s singsong voice came over the earpiece. Why this must be read: Um. It's a pre-series, semi-au short story about this one time Neal double-crosses a jerk and ends up kidnapping rescuing Elizabeth. And it's awesome. And gives a great look at Peter and Neal's relationship before the series, and how even then, Peter knew Neal was a good guy, if not a law-abiding one. Our Dance Gave Allegiance
