Why this must be read:
Sherlock is the first fandom I've ever been in where writers have taken the assertion of asexuality of one of the characters and positively RUN with it. There is an amazing bounty of fics portraying asexual characters in this fandom (yes, that's characterS with an S). Many of these stories are incredibly romantic, too (yes, someone can be asexual but not aromantic). This is one such story. It gives me fuzzy feelings and the Sherlock PoV is just lovely.

Why this must be read: This pairing is one of the best things to come out of the finale, and nobody writes them better than ozmissage. There's a perfect blend of angst, dry humour, and genuine feelings, the weirdness of Lost, and everyday life. Check out all of her Miles/Richard fic, but this one is the longest and the juiciest, with these two endearing misfits helping one another find their places back in the real world and falling for one another along the way.

Why this must be read: Oh, this is one of the reasons why I thinks Nate is good for Brad. Brad has a lot of issues, and Nate is brave enough to face them heads on.

I really love the emotions in this, so immediate and real, it made me ache for Brad (and Nate). Love the way they talk, I could hear their voices in my head. I also loved the conclusion of the story. Not all is well, but they might be getting there.

Why this must be read:
Um, so, you know how my last rec was completely romantic fluff with barely a mention of naughty touching? Well, this rec is basically the complete antithesis of that. This story has scary, amazingly hot, really disturbing, and completely psychologically fucked-up naughty touching in it, and it is AMAZING. Here is the author's warning for this fic... Warnings: Noncon, dubcon, psychological manipulation, thoughts and discussion of suicide. Medical fetish, sounding, e-stim, use of a gun during sex. Dark. Yeah, all that. AND IT IS AMAZING. The way the writer portrays the characters and especially Sherlock's thoughts are just so, so good. In the show, the characters are twisted enough that something like what happens in this story actually seems entirely possible, especially with the brilliant narration and psychological depth the author brings to it. In my head, I label this fic "that medfet fic that I liked so much."

A Thorough Examination

Why this must be read: For a while there in early canon, it looked like Chuck would be ready to do a lot to lose the Intersect. While this story was Jossed somewhere in season two, it still proposed a an unsettling way of how he might have achieved that goal. In this very plotty story, you slowly come to realize what has happened, seeing Chuck changed in a fundamental way while still very much being Chuck - on the outside. Enter Bryce, who hasn't come to save the day, but is still willing to do so in passing. The thing is, Chuck might not want to be saved.

Features an open ending, a procedural programming language, autism, and a twist.

Memory is like whatchacallit

Fandom: Raffles, the Amateur Cracksman

Why this must be read: I am a sucker for "lost scenes" or "lost pages" stories, especially in Victorian and Edwardian fandoms. This story takes place directly after "The Wrong House," a particularly wonderful original tale. With their adrenaline flowing, Bunny takes an amorous lead in the proceedings, clearly telling Raffles to "shut up" and do as he's told. Despite his forceful words, Bunny's love for Raffles is never in doubt; in fact, ajs_bunny makes it perfectly clear that Bunny would do anything for his dearest friend. The author's ease with Victorian language is apparent, doubling the pleasure of the sexy little story.

"His Sullivan smoldered between his fingers as he moved them to caress the side of my face. I have spoken often of Raffles's incredible dexterity, his undeniable coolness of control, and delicacy of touch upon any lock known to man. What I have not said was his inexplicable knowledge how to use his tactile gifts to illicit the most passionate responses from deep inside me. The most tender of touches across my brow would send me into convulsions. Only Raffles knew how to brush his fingertips over my jaw and neck until I was breathless with desire."

Apotheosis of the Bunny

Why this must be read:
One trope in the fandom that gets played out quite a bit is the concept that Jensen and Cougar really both want each other, but each is completely oblivious to the fact that the other guy wants him.

And what's great about this trope is that it produces, in the right hands, really long, exceedingly snarky stories that read like brilliant romantic comedies. But with guns. And being captured.

Storm Petrel's hands are exceedingly deft at this concept, producing a story that is perfect late Sunday reading.

This is good, it’s better than good, Jensen’s hands smoothing up and down his spine like he can’t stop touching Cougar’s skin. It feels *good*, and it’s been a long time since anyone touched Cougar and wasn’t trying to kill him. Jensen suddenly shifts, sits up and pushes Cougar down until he’s straddling his hips, and pulls his shirt over his head. Cougar kisses him again, then Jensen drops his head, puts his lips to the edge of the stitches in the hollow of Cougar’s collarbone, and breathes against his skin. “I’d never have told them, not a thing, I swear.
