Fandom: LOST Pairing: Sun/Michael Length: 900 words Author on LJ: flaky_artist Author Website: paths_uncrossed Why this must be read: This fic nails everything that made this pairing so compelling in season one---the language issues, his uncontrollable need to help her---but also extends it into a season 4 AU that works beautifully. It's aching and raw and perfectly them. dancing in the dark

Fandom: THE BIG BANG THEORY Pairing: Very slight Sheldon/Penny, but mostly gen. Length: 1.8k Author on LJ: kangeikoAuthor Website: At AO3Why this must be read:In a quiet way, this packs a true punch. Penny's alone and walking home; we don't really know where she's been, we don't know what's happened. Each step is painful, set to a chronometric beat that underlines a raw determination to keep moving. For the subject matter alone, it is not an easy read, but the writing is sparse and sharp, drawing you in and keeping you there to the end, and all of it beautifully rhythmical, like something finely tuned. A warning for implied rape, this may be triggery for readers. ( an excerpt )Cut Time

Fandom: RIPTIDE Pairing: Nick Ryder/Cody Allen Length: 300 Author on LJ: katikatAuthor Website: Fic tag on LJWhy this must be read:In Vivid Detail is a short snippet of pure perfection. It's another voyeur!Murray fic, giving us a tiny glimpse of the boys through his eyes. Katikat packs a huge punch in a tiny amount of words. She slices straight to the heart of the relationships between all three boys, sparing nothing, taking the reader with her every step of the way. The picture she creates here is incredibly hot and incredibly sweet, and packed with emotion. This is a fic you can't miss. It'll take you less than a minute to read it, and believe me, it's the best minute you'll ever spend. In Vivid Detail

Fandom: The Losers Pairing: Pooch/Jolene Length: 1718 words Author: Lady Krysis Website: Dreamwidth / AO3Why this must be read:Pooch and Jolene are an amazing pairing, and it's a shame that more isn't written about them. But what is written is beautiful, and this is definitely one of the most beautiful. Pooch worries about losing his family, but Jolene knows that family isn't just what's shared by blood. It's sweet, it's tender, and it's a delicious little treat, to be savoured and loved. Excerpt:"Hey, baby," Jolene says. Her smile is still the most beautiful thing in Pooch's world. She holds up the stuffed penguin—dressed and ready for the beach courtesy of Jensen—and wiggles it. "Come play with us?"
Pooch feels like he's stumbling forward, can't get there fast enough, and he drops to his knees, patting Jamaar's head and leaning in to kiss Jolene, to hold her, to thank God—again—that she's alive.Family

Fandom: HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY Pairing:Arthur/Ford (of the if you squint variety) Length: 1600 Author on LJ: daegaerAuthor Website: their AO3 ProfileWhy this must be read:Oh, Ford. You all know how much I love him, and this is another example of why. It’s often referred to, both in canon and the fandom, that Ford spent his time on Earth pretending to be an out of work actor. Daegaer shows us quite simply why he might not have actually been pretending at all, and that there may have genuinely been utterly failing to make it as an actor for perfectly understandable reasons. Fandom: SHERLOCK Pairing: John/Sherlock Length: 7,500 words Author on LJ: irisbleufic & moonyAuthor Website: More fic by these authors can be found here and here. Why this must be read:Due to the central use of text messages/e-mails/blogging in Sherlock, the epistolary form of short story is pretty common in the fandom. I, personally, LOVE AND ADORE epistolary stories, especially those that have two authors with two distinct voices writing the two characters exchanging the letters. This is perhaps the best example of this form of writing in the Sherlock fandom, and a favorite of mine. Enjoy! The Shape I Found You Inand the sequel, Lay Me Down

Fandom: SANCTUARY Pairing: none Length: 1,593 words Author on LJ: unknown Author Website: IsmAsm @ ff.netWhy this must be read: A cute fic in which Nikola finds out about Twilight, which has gotta be really awful for him considering his opinion of Bram Stoker. Nikola could honestly say that he had very little idea of the view of vampires in the mind of the public past about 1897.
So really, he had to ask someone.Cultural Joke

Fandom: SANCTUARY Pairing: James/John, minor Helen/John Length: 4,200 words Author on LJ: ariaficAuthor Website: Aria @ AO3Why this must be read: A very intense fic covering all the way from the very start of James and John's relationship to the very end. Aria takes all that slashy subtext that was dripping off of James and John during that epic scene in Revelations Part 2 ("It was you!") and makes excellent use of it. An utterly poignant and sometimes painful journey through past and present. Aria does an amazing job with James' POV, and the writing style and dialogue is fantastic. "Why change the rules?" he asks Druitt miserably, over brandies at the club. "It's playing hell with my deductions. I thought he was too damned arrogant to get so clever. Do you think he did it simply to throw me off the scent?" He knows it's terribly narcissistic, but he can't help feeling this like the personal affront it is.
But Druitt merely shakes his head, looking thoughtful. "Perhaps," he says, "the old boy's losing his taste for the sport." Dissect the Supposition

Fandom: THE WEST WING Pairing: Josh/Donna, mentions of Jed/Abbey Length: 2,414 Author on LJ: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]Author Website: Index of Stories and Music VideosWhy this must be read:Who doesn't love Abbey Bartlet? Seeing Josh and Donna through the First Lady's eyes is really heartwarming and this piece is the perfect little one-shot for all the romantics out there. She took a few moments to digest what she’d seen. As she looked into the darkness out across the cabin, she remembered a number of things, that taken one at a time, meant nothing, but when lumped together created to a very interesting picture, especially in light of the tender moment she’d just witnessed.Observations At 30,000 Feet
