Hello all. I will be sharing some of my favorite Man From Uncle fics with you this month. If I am able to do things the way I’ve planned, you will see a mixture of Gen, Humor, and Slash. Wednesdays will be Humor day in honor of the hump day. Humor may be either gen or slash. This week’s story is one that was created during mfuyum’s Valentine Day event. I didn’t write it although the prompt for the story was my idea. It’s a re-working of Rapunzel. It is what I call shonen-ai. Meaning that while it involves two men who fall in love with each other, there are no graphic descriptions of sex, actually no direct mention of it at all just talk of love and kissing. Hope it makes you giggle!

This is a really fun, short and sweet story that is a more modern telling of Rapunzel. It’s very definitely a ‘fractured fairy tale’. It reminds me of the best cartoons – those that had so many jokes that only the adults would understand and yet were still funny to children.

Why this must be read: Can I just say because Molo wrote it? That is really all you need to hear to know that it is amazingly good. This story starts with the trial of Prudholm, for the murder of Starsky's beloved Terri. Starsky is very,very, angry, he ends up saying something that really upsets Hutch.

I need a drink—make that plural. With a tortured squeal, the Torino responded as he pulled away from the curb and aimed it toward the Pits.

Damn it, Starsky, Hutch thought angrily as, after half an hour, he finally, finally managed to flag down an empty cab. He got in and directed the driver toward the only place he could imagine Starsky going at this point, the Pits. Only, why in God’s name would he leave without his partner? Doesn’t he think I understand? After Gillian? That bastard Grossman only got fifteen fucking years.

Except maybe Starsky didn’t think the two situations could compare. After all, Gillian had been a hooker. Hutch hardly even winced anymore at the thought. Too much had happened since to make him realize he hadn’t truly understood, back then, what love was really all about. It wasn’t about pretty, lying lips and green eyes that betrayed a world-weary wisdom. No, love had eyes of deep blue, and hairy knuckles, and a persistent, improbable innocence that needed his protection.

Only right now, love was hurting, and Hutch couldn’t help. Couldn’t ease its pain, and couldn’t stop the blows that were being delivered by the callous hands of Chance. He could only just be there.

Why this must be read:

The Pilot is a pivotal episode for the X-Files, in a very literal sense; it's the point around which the series swings. Anything that changed for Mulder and Scully over those few days in Bellefleur, Oregon would have permanently altered both of their lives' paths, and probably the fate of the human race as well. (No pressure, guys.) Hank Moody Blues here plays with a lot of different what-if scenarios, and each of them is absolutely plausible and more than a little frightening. I'll admit to being partial to numbers 1 and 4 myself (for literary reasons, not because I like the outcomes!), but it's pretty much all good.

This is angsty and delicious, and a great way to play with time and fate--also a topic our canon brings to our attention with some frequency.

The posting guidelines suggest 'a controversial fic, or hawt sex' and this series fits. FanfictionDOTnet had a hissyfit about a story or two and so the author moved her work to adultfanfictionDOTnet, with the exception of one story under the username KellyB. Dark Anakin is not always a redundant statement, as KellyB shows in this story. Padawan Anakin struggles with his past and his present, forgetting Padmé briefly, at least enough to try to manufacture a substitute fantasy. He emerges in the telling as flawed, understandable and overpowering. The girl in this story benefits. This story is one of a series, dark and compelling; as the author says, this is not a Cinderella romance, neither with Anakin/Padmé nor with Anakin/OC.

Why this must be read:

This story has got action and fighting and stalking through sewers and explosions and pancakes and sex and cartoonish criminal henchmen. It's exciting!

The premise is that Laurie and Rorschach end up tracking the same pack of baddies, and team up to take them out. Beyond those basics, all the action and plotting are marvelously well done, the settings are immersive and deliciously grimy, and the interaction between the two primaries is fun, funny, sexy, and sweet. The story also has a great, game-changing secret, which recontextualizes all that interaction midway through.

One more feature I particularly have to mention is this fic's rendition of Laurie's voice. If you've only seen the Watchmen movie, you should know that it utterly gutted Laurie's character and that in canon, she's an actual character rather than Generic Hot Love Interest #48713. We get the story from her perspective, and it's a very entertaining perspective.

William and Gabe get married. Guy Ripley asks their friends what they think about it. In the beginning of my planning for these recs, I honestly had no idea what to put out. Except for this fic. Ourgossip_lips is a genius, and I have such a thing for outsider POV. The whole thing is adorable in the sort of way that only the FBR boys can pull off. It's not too fluffy, and it'll make you giggle like crazy. Enjoy!

A delightful, fun story with some great guest appearances by other C6D'ers.

Why this must be read: This is a long, plotty, wonderfully realised futurefic, in which the Apocalypse is over, and Dean and Castiel go on to make a life for themselves and other survivors, including a passel of adopted kids. I love the warmth in this as the story slowly unfolds; the way past hardships are slowly revealed, and the love that grows between Dean, Castiel and the children. By the end, you will have fallen in love with their family too.
