Why this must be read:

Read this one for a lot of clever and hilariously fitting Lewis Carroll analogs to the Watchmen characters. It's funny for how supremely unimpressed Rorschach is while confronting them, and for how the darker elements of Watchmen have been incarnated in what's supposedly a child's dreamworld.

Well, the wall had to end somewhere. He turned right and started walking along it. After a while he saw someone sitting on it. On closer inspection it proved to be a giant egg, in leather trousers with a smiley face pinned to the belt, smoking a cigar.

Why this must be read:

Because so many fans started their LoM fic reading with elfinessy . Because it's perfectly in character, extremely sexy, a totally believable missing scene from 1x05. Because it's Sam looking after Gene and making him feel safe.

He's worn the green shirt because he's seen Sam look at him more when he's wearing it.  He's thought about Sam putting his hands on it.  It feels like silk against his flushed, sweat-damp skin; it's too hot in here, too hot in the pub.  In a far corner of his mind he knows it was supposed to look good, supposed to draw Sam's eyes away from the plonk all night.

Why this must be read: Crossover day is always a tough one for highlander, highlander has the highest proportion of crossovers of any fandom I've been involved in. Which means that I am spoiled for choice. This fabulous crossover with Sherlock had to be highlighted. Diana  Williams has written a wonderful story with Sherlock solving a beheading and Methos and MacLeod being wonderfully themselves. With the bonus of a Mycroft, Methos conversation.

Why this must be read:This is a really great crossover. Very well written and very exciting.
Authors notes:
Things you should know about Starsky and Hutch before reading this story: This takes place about a year after the ending of the series. I assume everyone knows S&H were police detectives. In the last episode of the series, Starsky is seriously wounded in a murder attempt. His heart stopped for three minutes but he was revived. This story makes mention of a story I wrote concerning those three minutes called The Other Side, but you do not have to read it to understand this one. Starsky and Hutch have been lovers for somewhat less than a year at the point of this story.

What you need to know about Kolchak before reading this story: Kolchak is a reporter for a news service, based in Chicago. During the series, each week he was confronted by a different paranormal danger that he had to defeat in order to save the world, or at least the city. No one ever believed him. This story takes place about five years after the series but not much has changed, except that things have been suspiciously quiet for awhile...

Things you need to know about the Cthulhu Mythos to read this story: Nothing really, it's pretty much explained internally. I should warn readers that this is my personal variant on the Mythos, and is considerably less bleak than the standard.

Why this must be read:

Jack Harkness is one of the most easily crossed over characters in fandom, but this is one of the best uses I've seen of him.  This story takes place in the months before a young Aral Vorkosigan commands the conquest of Komarr.  Dira perfectly captures Aral here, young and yet still himself.  He's incognito on Komarr, playing a tourist when he meets a mysterious stranger.  This story is about Aral, and what it's like to be a bisexual man in a homophobic culture, and his relationship with Ges who isn't yet the monster we meet later, but is becoming him.  And this is about two men, both scarred in their own way, taking a moment's freedom and happiness.  It's short and a little heartbreaking.

Why this must be read:, this is a missing interrogation scene from Slush Fund and it fits flawlessly into the episode, the situation and with the characters. It is dark, tough, tense, edgy, and there is a feeling of danger running through it. And it will get you looking at who Bodie used to be, and how working for CI5 and with Doyle have changed him. A vivid, compelling and powerful read.

Why this must be read: Crossover day! This story was written for last year's due South holiday exchange by a newcomer to the fandom, and I do hope that she stays. In this story, Fraser and Diefenbaker are both aliens who have come to investigate Earth. Considering that Fraser is, in canon, pretty much an alien from Canada, you can imagine how well the show can be adapted to support this. The snark between Fraser and Diefenbaker is also delightful. The only drawback is that the story does not fully develop its potential as tentacle!fic, but hopefully this can be rectified with a sequel.

You don't need to have seen Galaxy Quest to enjoy this, although of course it's more fun if you have.

In A Strange Land

Why this must be read: I didn't think I'd have an entry for Crossover Day, but then I looked over my rec list and realized that this gem of a story would qualify. Helens78 does a brilliant job bringing Mike (Microphone) Stand to life here, and its desire to be handled just the way Hugh will handle him--with a physicality that's um, sexual.  This was a great prelude to the Headstones reunion concerts earlier this year, and a reminder that Hugh really knows how to handle a microphone.

Dean and Faith are one of the more popular crossover pairings around (if any crossover pairing could really be classified as popular) and it's not really all that surprising if you think about it. They're these two anti-hero type characters from two very popular supernatural genre TV shows that can each hold their own in a fight. Victoria P. brings Faith and Dean together in this steamy one-shot as they run into each other while hunting down various demons and vampires again, and again, and again.
