Why this must be read: This is a sweet and gently flowing little fic, with just a hint of Rodney angst and panic. I love the idea of John and Rodney having a little bolthole of their own to go to. The last few paragraphs make me melt inside.

Excerpt:

"You look really good." You look not dead. You look wonderful. Oh my God.

"Thank you," John says, his funny little thank you that says satisfaction not only with the compliment, but with the knowledge that Rodney's bright enough to give it.

"Don't thank me," Rodney snaps, stepping closer. John smells like salt and work and sunlight, huff of water-cool breath against Rodney's mouth. His mouth is warm underneath, and that's salty too, familiar and confident, and John's fingers splay across Rodney's cheekbone, lightest pressure of gun-callused fingers against his face. Thunk goes the water bottle and John's other hand traces Rodney's hip, pulling him closer, and John's chest is firm and hot under his t-shirt, contented pace to his heart that has Rodney's thoughts slowing to match it and the slow summer day around them.

He leans back to look up at John, whose face is bright and eager and young, and grins.

Hey, McKay, John says, and John wears his smile like silk.

Why this must be read:

This story has the guys as gay from the very beginning. They both have to keep it hidden from the real world. They see each other for a brief moment in a gay bar and the next day they are partnered together as Detectives at the Metro division under Captain Dobey. There is so much tension and attraction and angst and confusion. I'm not gay, but how she describes their relationship seems realistic for men that love each other, but come with baggage and are so used to rejection and hiding, but are drawn to each other. I really enjoyed this story.

Why this must be read:

It's ridiculous how much I love these two. Giles and Anya are just so different and probably the last two people you would think would end up as friends, but yet somehow their somewhat odd couple friendship worked on the show and certainly works in this wonderful one-shot.

Every so often, something in her manner would remind him that she was older than he, so much older that he could not conceive of it, and that his conception of twenty years as a lifetime ago only served to reveal the mereness of his mortality.

We're over halfway through the month and I haven't recced any Sam-whumping. This needs to be rectified.

alone_dreaming  has a unique, fluid style and a seriously amazing grasp on the characters. There's angst, humour and surreality. Plus there is Sam saving the day while fighting off some of his most vivid hallucinations yet. It could so easily be canon.

The first time he’s injured on the job (outside of the bruises when he conflicts with his DCI), Gene doesn’t sit with him like a great, big, weepy Nancy. In fact, he doesn’t even come see him in the hospital and avoids him until he returns for duty a week later, haggard, still drugged up to his gills, but insisting (despite the constant beeping in his ears) that he’s ready to be back on duty.
