Doesn't time fly when you're having fun! Here it is, the 30th already, and time for me to fill up the tank, wash down the van, and hand back the keys ready for the next driver. Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairing: gen Length: 19770 words Author on LJ: caarianna Author Website: www.arianna.hidden-muse.com www.wolfpanther.com Why this must be read: - Ten years previously, a young skater had been seriously injured when he ignored a threat and skated in a top competition. Now skaters are being threatened again... At first sight this could be classified as an AU, but canon gives us very little positive information about Blair's years pre-Rainier. This story gives us a fascinating insight into a perfectly plausible background for him as he and Jim investigate the threats. Shattered Dreams is the first in a series of four stories which build into a convincing picture of a world where skating meets crime. Shattered DreamsGuiltRecoveryOn Ice

Fandom: WATCHMEN Pairings: The Minutemen (minus HJ) Length: 2355 Author on LJ: sermocinareAuthor Website: http://sermocinare.livejournal.com/26165.html#cutid1Why this must be read: This fic is one of my personal favourites. (Not only because it was a b-day present for me lol) But no, it was a prompt on the kink meme that I wanted to see filled so badly from the day I saw it (and somehow just couldn't do it myself.) And now it got an amazing fill. Eddie insults the forces and Nelly, and Hollis decide to show him his place with a shooting contest. It's such a fun piece and describes the group dynamic between the Minutemen so wonderfully. And then, though that was part of the point of the whole prompt, Mothman comes along and steals the show, being his awesome drunk self. What can I say, read this and I assure you it'll leave you with a smile on your face.

And with this fic, I conclude my stint at the crack van wheel. It was fun. Hope you enjoyed the recs. :) Fandom: WATCHMEN Pairings: Adrian Veidt/Eddie Blake Length: 1926 Author on LJ: skullsquidAuthor Website: http://skullsquid.livejournal.com/25322.htmlWhy this must be read: In which Adrian is away on business and Eddie... stalks him. This fic is both fun and so, so hot, coupled with a slight bit of fluff and the amusing image of Eddie sitting on a tree with binoculars.

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Bodie/Doyle Length: ~6.800 words Author on LJ: dawnebeth Author Website: AO3 Why this must be read: And today, we have yet another first time story. Yes, yes... what can I say? I like them :P And I also like stories about what happened after Discovered in a Graveyard. In this one, we have Doyle still lying on a hospital bed and Bodie quivering with rage and violence, unable to get a grip on his emotions. Bodie is well aware of what is going on with him, even as he refuse to acknowledge the feelings that are the root of them. Doyle, on the other side... well, I guess you will had to read the story to know what's Doyle's take on this :D But let's have a little peek on the story ( here: ) So, enjoy reading Foretasted Fear, and don't forget to feed the author. We want to keep them happy and willing to write us some more, don't we? And this was my last rec. As always, it has been lots of fun to revisit old and new favorites and bring them to you, in hopes you'd find something you enjoy. Until next time, girls and boys! *waves*

Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: Chris/Ezra Length: 41,791 words Author on LJ: solosundance Author Website: On AO3Why this must be read: I actually thought this has been recced before, but I didn't see it when I search through the listings, so my apologies if it's already been recced - it should have been! It's the first story of a wonderful AU, made all the more interesting by the fact that it's an actual AU of the canon Old West! The way the seven come together is very different, and the pasts they have are also different, but JoJo keep the central character qualities. Chris has lost his wife and child, Ezra is still a gambler, Nathan is actually a real doctor, and all the others retain the qualities we love in them from the show. Even though, when we first meet them, they're outlaws, on the run. ( An excerpt )It's a strong story, well put together, with good style and characterization. It's also a wonderful founding story to a universe that has a rich complexity, especially in the pasts of the men we love. I've heard rumor that there's going to be a second story soon, so now's a great time to read the first one!

Fandom: PSYCH Pairing: Shawn Spencer/Carlton Lassiter Length: ~35,000 Author on LJ: wolfscytheAuthor Website: Sulferoid on ff.net Why this must be read: There's undercover work, some sneaking around among docks and warehouses, a rescue, a hostage situation... and a lot more. Case fic and Shassie, with a hint of Gus/Jules. Lassiter's a smart cop and a brave one, and I love it when fic reflects this. In Later Days, Lassie's out to catch an international smuggler/trafficker and his associates. To do so, he needs to convince the guy that he (Lassie) is a bad cop. He also needs to keep Shawn out of the way of his case. Neither of these things are easy, but Lassie's up to the task - most of the time. Later Days

Fandom: MAGNIFICENT SEVEN Pairing: None Length: 12,910 words Author on LJ: Not that I know of Author's Website: On AO3Why this must be read:Two of BMP's stories have already been recced here, "Aftermath", which is a tremendous work of characterization made all the more brilliant by the fact that it's set in the ATF universe, and "Blood Money", a story set after the traumatic last episode "Obsession". That story is from Buck's POV, and this one is a companion piece to it, set from Chris' POV as he ponders what he's going to do about the mess he's put himself and his friends in. Anyone who has read anything by BMP knows that she's a strong writer, well adapted at balancing plot with character development. In this story, as with "Blood Money", she outdoes herself, addressing the major questions that "Obsession" leaves hanging in the air, not the least of which are how Chris is going to find his way back from the edge of his own catastrophe. ( An Excerpt ) With true talent, BMP weaves us through Chris' confrontation with himself and with the men who, despite all, stand with Chris through this. But mostly, BMP gets into Chris' head in a way that's as close to the canon character as it's possible to be, the story as real as the episode it was based on.
