04:10 am A Cord of Three Strands By LadyLefaye (PG-13)
Fandom: Naruto
Pairing: Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura
Length: 998 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: LadyLefaye@AFF & LadyLefaye @FF.net
Why this must be read:

A Cord of Three Strands by LadyLefaye is a sweet little what-if gem. What if Sasuke was actually thinking at the Valley of the End instead of reacting to Orochimaru's curse seal? What would he ignored his manipulations and really thought about what was going on? How much did he really value Naruto .. and Sakura? What if their relationship were balanced? Written as a new ending to Naruto and ignoring Shippuden, this charmer covers everything very satisfyingly in a short 1000 words.

I found LadyLefaye through her Bleach Fic but stuck around for her Naruto fic. She has some wonderful, different pairings on her site but it's A Cord of Three Strands that's in my favorite folder. Hope you enjoy it as well.

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: None
Length: 702 words
Author on LJ: I don't think there is one for this author.
Author Website: FFN Profile
Why this must be read:

"We let our fears decide that we could not risk this prize falling into the hands of our enemy, regardless of how very unsuited He was to our lifestyle."

Hindsight from a Philosopher/Diplomat as he or she lies on the floor of the Jedi Temple, waiting to join the Force after Order 66. It must have been bitter to see the Chosen One save the Order from itself. This story reinforces that theme, labeled as it is "Tragedy/Spiritual".

Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Arthur Pendragon/Merlin Emrys
Length: 24,380 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] astolat [livejournal.com profile] astolat
Author Website: Intimations
Why this must be read:
Astolat has written some outstanding stories in many fandoms, but I love this one in particular for the satisfying plot as well as the use of magic (magical combat!), sound characterization (both canon characters and OCs), and world building (Elven Court politics!).

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: 1716 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] angel_ci5
Author Website: AngelCI5 on Automated Hatstand
Why this must be read: Because this is a lovely little fic that brings our older lads into the twenty first century with their eternal competence and humour! Of course Bodie has an iPhone, now that they're both in from the streets and their work takes them to the PM's offices and the like, and of course Doyle... well, you'll just have to read it and see. *g*

Pros is set firmly in the late 1970s/early 1980s, but AngelCI5 has taken the glimpses we're given of our lads then - that they were already confidently using computers, that they always seem to be competent with new tools and technology and seem fairly open-minded about it all (we never see them complain about computers, for example) - and has brought our lads right up to date in a way that rings absolutely true. They might be older, but this is Bodie and Doyle exactly as I imagine them!

06:21 pm Post hoc, ergo propter hoc ('After this, therefore because of this') by hitome_bore (NC-17)
Sorry to double-post on the same day, but I've had trouble accessing LJ for days and I want to make sure I post while I can.

Fandom: Merlin
Pairing: Arthur Pendragon/Merlin Emrys
Length: 95,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hitome_bore
Author Website: LJ tags
Why this must be read:
To prevent a terrible future war, Merlin travels to the past to become a younger Arthur's teacher and teach him not to fear magic. This Camelot Solstice story is a delightful tale of time travel and second chances.

Warning for underage (taken into historical context, it's not really), but not chan.

07:02 pm Cinderella, She Seems So Easy by kat_lair (NC-17)
Fandom: BANDOM
Pairing: Gerard/Mikey
Length: 9,600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair
Author Website: author's masterlist of fic
Why this must be read: This is, hands down, the best incest story I have ever read in any fandom. Incest is a complex thing to write, and usually requires suspending all disbelief; this, story, however, treats it with such realism and honesty, it blows me away.

Mikey finds himself walking right into one of Gerard's personal kinks, entirely by accident, and things spiral downwards from there. He makes attempts, puts himself out there, just to see - never making a move, because it would be too much to risk, but just to see. [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair is not only a fantastic writer but a spectacular poet, so she brings such vivid imagery and feeling into this story, honouring just how complex things are because they're brothers, because there's so much riding on this. And when they slip and finally break, it makes your stomach bottom out and your breath catch in your throat - it is really, really, not a story to be missed.

Wow. Finally. Sneaking in while the posting is happening!

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
Length: 1400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt
Author Website: http://www.janedavitt.com
Why this must be read:

One of the dangers of heightened sensual pleasure is addiction. A number of stories touch on it lightly with the assumption that Jim is disciplined enough to avoid that problem. This is a dark little story where it's Blair's sexual curiosity about Jim that crosses the line. Jane writes with a clear-eyed, unsentimental style and a unique take on the trope.

08:09 pm The Seduction of Napoleon Solo series by spikesgirl58 (rated G to NC-17)
(OMG I CAN POST! WOOOOT)

Well, you guys, I'm taking the last spin around the neighborhood in the modified ice cream truck (reference to Suburbia Affair!). :D I hope everyone has enjoyed my picks this month. It's been great fun!

I wanted to ask all friends of MFU to consider driving the UNCLE crack_van carpool - it's fun and surprisingly simple to do. If *I* can do it, you certainly can! Please sign up today!

Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon/Illya
Length: varies between stories, 7KB to 24KB
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58
Author Website: she posts at her journal as well as Chrome and Gunmetal and various other places under various other names
Why this must be read:

Another well-known and loved author in our community, [livejournal.com profile] spikesgirl58 aka Uncle Charlie has written countless classics. This four part story arc, which recounts with humor, snark and raw sensuality how Illya gets his man, is one of my very favorites within the fandom.

Each story is good by itself, but read together it’s a minor masterpiece. Here is a sample of the first story…and I promise you, you’ll laugh and sigh and need a cold shower after you’re finished with the last story…

09:42 pm Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees by Deepdarkwaters (Thieving_Gypsy) . (Mature, R)
I'm sorry for being such a bad driver this month, between life and LJ downtime it's been difficult! That said, I am back tonight with a delightful bit of ultra-fluffy Noel and Julian goodness. (fingers crossed it makes it through)

Fandom: RPF (British Comedy)
Pairing: Noel Fielding/Julian Barratt
Length: 2835
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thieving_gypsy
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read:

I have stalked the Boosh fandom for a few years now, and this year finally took the leap to write my own with aspirations of drawing as much of Noel's playful and childish side out as I could. This fic is precisely why.

Deepdarkwaters has an amazing bead on Noel as a character and through each work she's done her command of Noel (and also Vince, but that is another topic) is exactly the parts I want to see shining through - whilst managing to maintain a very entertaining, thoughtful, and well written story. I had to pick just one piece that I thought defined Noel & Julian's relationship over the years - and this was the hands down winner.

A cute, fluffy retelling of their life... with a bear.

10:49 pm wishbone by falseeeyelashes (PG)
Fandom: BONES
Pairing: Booth/Brennan
Length: 2,432
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes
Author Website: falseeeyelashes’ masterlist
Why this must be read:

Author’s summary: pull it till it breaks (or, an assortment of moments collected among the living and the dead (but mostly the dead)).

I was as upset as everyone else that canon skimped over the fallout from Booth’s “death” in S3, but what lacks in canon is more than made up for in fandom. This is a lovely, poignant look at Booth and Brennan’s relationship both before and after Booth “dies.” What makes this fic stand out for me is that instead of focusing on Brennan’s anger, [livejournal.com profile] falseeeyelashes focuses on the complexity of Brennan’s thoughts as she tries to understand her shifting world. A background serial killer adds an additional source of tension to a bittersweet and haunting story.

11:56 pm the lonely cool before dawn by irishmizzy (pg13)
Fandom: The Vampire Diaries
Pairing: Stefan/Elena
Length: 7100 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] irishmizzy
Author Website journal's fanfic tag
Why this must be read:

A road trip fic like no other, this is one of my favorite stories in the fandom. It captures a perfect quiet mood throughout, giving us a Stefan & Elena who are miserable and scared and tired and playful and in love all at the same time. The best part about the story is it's attention to detail that adds a layer of realism. Whether these two are fighting over the radio or playing the liscence plate game or stopping to see the world's biggest ball of twine, it always just feels like what two people on a road trip would really feel like. It captures a mood of day-to-day tediousness without the story ever staggering under its weight.

Of course, it's not just a road trip; they are on the run from Klaus. Elena's emotional struggle is quite well done, especially her guilt at leaving so many people behind and how she wishes she could stay to fight while they all ran away. And Stefan as her silent support throughout. A brilliant look at these characters and their relationship.

Also, there's line-dancing.
