01:40 am Calling Down the Lightening by dreamwaffles (PG13)

Fandom: STARGATE ATLANTIS
Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Length:55,498 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dreamwaffles
Author Website:
none that I'm aware of
Why this must be read:
Dreamwaffles weaves us a incredibly detailed, and downright scary one for magic-users, world where magic is punishable by burning and the people are held in fear of false accusations and lies (those are met by burning as well, no investigations). In this world, the Stargate program is still a reality and the Atlantis expedition is still a go. Rodney McKay, one of the few wizards who has lived past puberty, must weave between hiding who he is and saving the Expedition on a regular basis throughout this adventure of a story. This story is Dreamwaffles' first in the fandom, and this reader urgently hopes she writes more as her writing ability is fantastic. The emotions are crisp, the action is heart-pounding-ly non-stop, and the characters literally jump off the screen in their richness and depth. She draws you into the character's minds and hearts; she makes the reader bleed with their pain and soar on their wings of triumph. This fic is not to be missed!

11:07 am The Kitchen by Amalnahurriyeh (NC-17)
Fandom: RPF: THE X-FILES
Pairing: David Duchovny/Gillian Anderson
Length: very short
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh
Author Website: her fic tag
Why this must be read: This poignant vignette was written in response to a rather controversial (in my head, at least) porn battle prompt. In the hands of a less talented writer, it could have been awful. Instead, as one of the commentators said, "...it feels like David and Gillian, so that the sex fits into their reality, instead of David and Gillian being squeezed into a reality where they have sex." RPF was still so controversial back then in our quaint little fandom that Amal never re-posted it to her LJ, so you will have be content to read it at the Porn Battle.

11:41 am Dirty Little Secrets & Always Be series by [livejournal.com profile] saraid (NC17)
Apologies for being a little late with this. I've had some problems accessing LJ the past couple of days again.

Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
Length: DLS - 7 stories; Always Be - 4 stories
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] saraid
Author Website: http://www.wf.net/~gofboats/TSindex.htm

Warnings: Non-con, dubious consent.

Why this must be read: This starts out in Dirty Little Secrets as a dark and rather grim series of stories where Jim and Blair are forced to have sex in order to maintain their bond as Sentinel and Guide. There's non-con and dubious consent involved but still with an undercurrent of caring for each other just beneath the somewhat gritty surface. In Always Be, saraid segues this into a rather sweet and loving story of two men who manage to overcome both their "dirty little secrets" and a life that has kept them apart and gives them (and us) a happy ending.

04:01 pm With My Feet Toward the Stars (let me remember you as you were when you existed) by rinsbane (R)
Fandom: STAR TREK: REBOOT
Pairing: Kirk/Spock, Spock/Enterprise, Kirk/Enterprise
Length: 33k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rinsbane
Author Website: Unknown
Why this must be read:

The Enterprise gains sentience.

And if that alone is not enough to recommend this fic, then how about: I'd already signed up to drive the van when this fic was posted, and already had most of my fics in mind, but once I read this one, it immediately had a place.

This fic made me want to cry, but it also made me want to grin madly. It's sad and it's uplifting and it completely blew me away. This is a story about love, in so many of the ways it exists and can be shared, and it's a story about dreams, and all the ways they can be dreamed.

I just...words feel paltry in trying to explain how extraordinary this fic is. Go read it. You won't regret it.

Also: someone on my flist who has no interest in K/S recced this fic. That's how amazing it is.

06:43 pm The Acorn Syndrome by Georgina Kirrin (Everyone)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: About 2100 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: UKJess's Ominum-Gatherum
Why this must be read: This was, I believe, the first "older lads" story that I ever read. I fell in love with it, and with the concept. *g* It's told from an observer's point of view and it does everything that I love when a story is told from that perspective: gives us insight into Bodie and Doyle while still allowing us to know more about them than the observer. It is pure fun. And then there are the lads--older but very much themselves, and still together.

An Excerpt that possibly gives too much away, but it's great  )

What is there not to love here? It's charming without being the least bit cloying. Go on, give it a go!
