01:07 am The Reading by icedteainthebag (NC-17)
Fandom: RPF: THE X-FILES
Pairing: David Duchovny/Gillian Anderson
Length: vignette
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] icedteainthebag
Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/icedteainthebag/
Why this must be read: She has written sharply characterized, sexy stories in every fandom she's been in, so it came as no surprise that she could write great RPF as well. I avoided reading this for over a year because I was toying with writing something similar. Damn, I thought, when I finally broke down and read it. No need to bother with that scenario now. This is really, really good, with a wicked little twist at the end. "They're really hot together, and tragic," ITITB said about the pairing, which works fine as a summary for this, too.

07:10 am Ragnarok by Beck McLaughlin (PG-13)
Fandom: HIGHLANDER
Pairing: Methos/OMC
Length: ~35.000 words
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: Beck McLaughlin at Seventh Dimensions
Why this must be read:

It's the end of the world, Atlantis is raising from the bottom of the sea, and the Eternals are back. And as if things weren't already bad enough, Joe is dying.
I can't tell you a lot about the storyline without giving-up a lot, but there are some warnings you should know about: dubious consent and slavery are present all along Ragnarok.
This story is a continuation from Mythos, although it can be read alone without missing too much. Not that I recommend that, of course :D And there are also sequels: Winterbone, Winterbone: Interlude and Winterbone: Mayfair. So, you can see you could spent a quite long time reading this, but, oh, they are so worthy!

Interesting, isn't it? So, go and read Ragnarok, and after that, let know the author what you think :D

07:18 am Into the Stars by Jaxon Knight (NC17)

Fandom: STARGATE SG-1
Pairing: Jack O'Neill/Daniel Jackson
Length: 43,000 words approx
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] jaxon_knight
Author Website:
Author's DW Account
Why this must be read:

Author Summary:
Can the unlikely meeting of two jaded men change the course of galactic history? Oh, sure it can.

Another finely crafted AU, Jaxon Knight takes us on a journey of discovery, love, and fascinating premises in this lovely fic. Stargate ficdom is rampant with the hooker trope. I've seen it in almost every fic archive, community, and list. Yet, Jaxon gives it a unique twist in that the hooker is Daniel in the red-light district of Amsterdam, trying to earn money to feed his young cousins who have been left for him. Along comes a date with destiny in the form of a fleeing black ops!Jack O'Neill. This riot of a fic eventually leads us around the world to a certain spot in Colorado and a certain alien artifact. All the while, Jaxon constructs a glorious get-together between two very jaded souls that is romantic and steamy hot at the same time. Jack and Daniel are incredibly in-character throughout, in the sexy parts and in the parts with Daniel's kids. Every time they're on screen, they're the guys we know from canon. So add into this fantastic characterization and lovely romance, a wonderful AU-Stargate program start-up and edge of your seat action, and you've got a fic that will keep you entertained for quite a while!

10:37 am Reunited by Susan (not rated, but probably R?)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 1148 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sjames_centre
Author website: More great fic by Susan is at Kassidy Rae's S&H slash site. http://shslash.kassidyrae.com/fiction.html
Why this must be read: Because it's songfic and it's good, and how often do both those words describe the same story? Susan has a way of taking small moments and making them mean so, so much. She's the champion of the understated fic that nevertheless hits like a blow to the gut. Here, the guys are, as the title indicates, reunited (and it feels so good). But there's a twist, a sting in the tail. This is a lovely, lovely fic. Poignant is perhaps an overused word, but it's appropriate here.

01:22 pm On a Tuesday by Pollitt (PG)
Fandom: DONALD STRACHEY MYSTERIES
Pairing: Donald Strachey/Timothy Callahan
Length: About 1,400 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] pollitt
Author's website: None of which I'm aware.
Why this story must be read: Sometimes love isn't declared over dinner at an expensive restaurant or during a moonlight stroll on the beach. Sometimes it happens in a far more ordinary place, but it's a place you'll remember for the rest of your life. This lovely story was written in 2007 for a "first time" challenge on [livejournal.com profile] nick_n_nora. I won't offer an excerpt because the story is short and sweet, and I don't want to spoil anything.

09:09 pm Untitled by gyzym (PG)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-O
Pairing: Jenna/Kono
Length: 500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gyzym
Author Website: Fanfic master list

Why this must be read:
This is a really short snapshot of Jenna and Kono together, and it's lovely in its simplicity. I won't quote from it, because it's so short that would spoil it, but I will say that it features Jenna in all her slightly nerdy glory, and Kono being totally sweet on her, in every sense of that phrase.

09:29 pm Cat Got Nine Lives by kleenexwoman (PG-13)
Fandom: MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: Napoleon Solo/Illya Kuryakin
Length: ~7,300
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kleenexwoman
Author Website: none (unfortunately)
Why this must be read:

I don't really know how to describe this story except to tell you it's crazily inventive and freakin' brilliant and [livejournal.com profile] kleenexwoman can write! You have to read it. It's about quantum physics and parallel universes and a Thrush Quantum Decoupler that Illya is assigned to investigate.

Illya touches it, and suddenly, we're following his consciousness as it jumps from universe to universe: Polly Solo here, dirigibles there; from a radiation bombed New York to a world of gentle sea creatures where Illya's best friend is an octopus--and more--all beautifully realized. And weaving through all of them, the funny, constantly mutating refrain of "Cat Got Nine Lives", the song that starts the story, and then carries us from world to world. Cat Got Nine Lives is an indescribable and wonderful tour de force and really, please, just go read :)

Napoleon laughs, and says he prefers dogs. "They're loyal, smart, they come when they're called...Cats are too sneaky."

"Loyal! Dogs will bite you for no reason. Cats, now, cats are easy to read," Illya counters, "they have two moods--unhappy, and fed."

Napoleon reminisces about a beagle he had as a child, which leads Illya to recall an eyeless goldfish he kept in university. "Its name was Fsh," he says, and the hour is so late and the paperwork has been so dull that Napoleon laughs.

These small, stupid moments are what Illya will regret losing, every time he dies.
