Why this must be read: This fic does a nifty job of capturing just about every facet of Simon Tam, including the his relationship with River and how it colors everything else in his life. It reads like a deleted scene, right down to his interactions with Kaylee and Mal. And if you haven't noticed by now, I'm a sucker for some good Simon/Kaylee UST. Or RST. Whatever. I'm not picky.

And with his jaw clenched and hair that she can’t remember ever seeing out of place, her hand is pretty lucky. )

02:13 pm Ulysses by Rheanna (Gen)
Fandom: DOCTOR WHO
Pairing: The Doctor, John Smith, Joan Redfern
Length: 3718 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27, rheanna,
Author Website: Golden Maze, AO3
Why this must be read:

This is a wonderful AU splitting off from Human Nature/Family of Blood.  In those two episodes, the 10th Doctor hid from enemies chasing him by hiding as a teacher in a boarding school in 1913 England.  He used a device called a Chameleon Arch to hide the Time Lord part of himself in a watch, so that his body was truly human and he believed himself to be John Smith, a typical English gentleman of the Edwardian Era, and he fell in love with Joan Redfern, the Matron of the school.  Martha, however, as a Black woman in 1913, was stuck as a servant at the school where John worked.  When the enemies caught up with them, Martha had to keep them at bay while convincing John Smith to give up everything he had and knew--in essence, to sacrifice his life--to become the Doctor again.

But what if he'd refused?  What if Martha had saved the day, leaving John Smith and Joan Redfern behind to live happily ever after?  This is a short story--just a single scene--and yet it says so much about the Doctor, and Martha, and John Smith, and might-have-been.  I highly recommend it.

04:45 pm Better Get Me Good by robanybody (NC-17)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 (2010)
Pairing: Danny/Kono
Length: ~5.5k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] robanybody
Author Website: H50 fic tag on dreamwidth
Why this must be read:

Summary: Four times Danny went down on Kono and one time she went down on him.

The fic that converted me to Danny/Kono! This is wonderfully in character and shows exactly how and why Danny and Kono work as a couple. The love between Danny and Kono really shines through, and each sex scene is written with purpose to show a different facet of their relationship. Lovely (and hot)!

06:17 pm First One Thing, Then the Otter by Alex51324 (teen)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: ~13K words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] alex51324
Author Website: Alex's dS fic is a bit spread out, but can be found on her LJ, at the Due South Archive, and now at AO3
Why this must be read: This story was originally written for Team Whimsy for Match 2008, and it's just as playful and joyful and amusing as you would expect a whimsical piece to be. Alex also weaves canon seamlessly into her strange and wonderful world. I don't want to give too much away in case there's someone out there that hasn't had the pleasure of reading this story for the first time yet, but the basic premise is that the guys are investigating a crime scene and find what appear to be otter tracks. For some reason, Fraser doesn't seem to want to investigate. So when Ray finds an otter in the trap that the zookeeper set...

09:16 pm Just What is a Karmic-chi Love Thing, Anyway? by catwalksalone (R)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: Tony  DiNozzo/Tim McGee
Length: about 4,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read: This author is one of the best DiNozzo/McGee slashers in the fandom. The guys are amazingly in character, and her "Tony voice" is scarily realistic. I adore how effortlessly she manages to write the banter, and in this particular fic, the email exchange is absolutely hilarious. There's nothing like an accidental first time humping each other to completion story *g*, and this is just about the best one out there.
