09:32 am They're Gonna Be All Right, by ImpishTubist (PG-13)

Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC
Pairing: Asexual!Sherlock/Lestrade
Length: 4652 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] impishtubist
Author Website: fic on LJ on AO3
Why this must be read:
Stories about Sherlock as asexual are a feature of Sherlock fandom.
In this one, the beginning of a series, John Watson tries to determine the exact nature of the relationship he observes between Sherlock and Lestrade.
The story, and at times, the relationship, is pleasant and affectionate, which is hard to pull off as genuine between this pair. Above all, it's deftly written. I recommend the whole series, particularly the last, "This Man's Measure," in which Sherlock covets Lestrade's skull.

03:37 pm Toi que je veux by allheadybooks (PG-13)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0
Pairing: Steve/Danny
Length: ~5k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] allheadybooks
Author Website: On AO3
Why this must be read:

Summary: Whatever, Steve, Danny thinks, you know you're hot, I know you're hot, did nobody ever tell you it's a dick move to tease your dyke friend?

I love gender/sex swap fics, particularly when they have something interesting to say about gender, and this one is excellent. The entire team is swapped, so Danny, Steve, and Chin are female, while Kono is male. But Danny totally steals the show here. She's tough and loud and everything we know from canon, and translated so perfectly I can't even stand it. I could just see her so clearly in my head, and Steve too. The dynamic between Steve and Danny is just as fiery and adorable and compelling as it is on the show. This is one of my favorite H50 fics, period, so I hope you'll give it a shot even if you don't generally read sex or gender swaps.

Excerpt: Danny has a thing for butch women in watches or wrist cuffs, okay, it's like early imprinting from this girl she used to follow around first year of college )

04:13 pm Poetry to Protect Us by The Hag (Mature)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: ~10500
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] hagrus
Author’s Stories: Automated Hatstand; The Circuit Archive
Why this must be read: Hagrus is a unique voice in the Pro’s fandom. Her trademarks are humor, spot on characterization, great dialogue and the ability to make the reader feel what Bodie and Doyle are feeling.

In “Poetry to Protect Us”, Bodie is in hospital and his injuries prevent him from giving clues to CI5 to prevent a disastrous event. Meanwhile, Doyle has been sent on an undercover operation that required…well a bit of a change to his appearance.
The lads are always the lads in The Hag’s stories. Her deft use of humour - and puns(!) - shows the care between the two men without making them soppy.
Excerpt 1 )

The tenderness these two hard men feel for each other is expertly depicted. The Hag makes you feel like you want to give them both a comforting hug.

The Hag “knows” Bodie and Doyle and her stories are warm and witty.
Give this one a try!

08:00 pm The Exhibition by Quill (PG)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 9K
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: HERE
Why this must be read: I love AU stories and this one is short and sweet and proves that Starsky & Hutch are together in every single universe ever created :)

They finally reached the exhibit just before their starting point. Instead of a single large painting, this artist - K Hutchinson - had contributed a group of smaller pictures - landscapes, with the occasional figure. Most of the flaws Starsky had complained about in other pictures were missing, but the colours in all of the pictures were faded as though they'd been left in strong light for too long.

"Well?"

"They're colourless. Like your eyes." Starsky turned bright red, clapping a hand over his mouth as the man stared at him in astonishment. 'Where did that come from?' he asked himself.

"Any other complaints about the pictures?" the man asked, a little weakly. Starsky looked at the pictures intently, willing the colour in his cheeks to fade.

"No. Actually, I think they're the best in the show. Just -"

"Too colourless." The man looked at him. "Any other complaints about me?"

As the fading colour resurged in Starsky's cheeks, the man turned and walked away.

08:39 pm Sunday Dinners by mrwubbles (PG-13)
Fandom: NCIS
Pairing: None. Gen team fic.
Length: long
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mrwubbles
Author Website: N/A
Why this must be read: When I prepped for my month driving the Crack Van, I told myself to only rec one story per author. [livejournal.com profile] mrwubbles is one of the authors I could have easily recced a few times, so it was difficult for me to decide which story to pick. I've finally decided on this one, because it's a brilliantly written team fic and it features food, which is a favorite of mine. *g* Seriously though, this story gives us a wonderful look at the team we love, how they interact, how they care for each other. Every single character is perfectly in character, each situation is brilliantly written with the "food" theme perfectly interwoven. I really can't praise this story enough!

Why this must be read: It's funny, it's sparky, it provides a rare, believable moment of sweetness for this pairing, and it's hotter than any fic with no actual sex in it has a right to be.
