Why this must be read: You would think Twilight and tennis have nothing in common. I wanted to rec one or two fics involving the French guys, a clique all unto themselves, and this one works well with that as well. Novak has said in interview that Gilles looks like Edward Cullen (I seriously don’t see it). In the fic, Gilles has some downtime and decides, thanks to this comment, to read the Twilight series. The dreams intertwining Novak and the books work quite well, as does the teasing among the French players.

The finale to the 1st season left me gasping on the floor at the turn of events, and I know it did the same with others. Steve arrested, Kono facing an investigation, Chin apparently a traitor, and Danny possibly leaving the island altogether threw many fans for a loop, myself included. To tide us frantic fans over the summer break, masterpieces such as this cropped up and gave us our breathe again. For such a short fic, Anchor gives us fangirls just what we need, a sense that the Ohana is still working together to save its members and Danny is still that rock steady friend that Steve needs to pull him through this. Definitely a fic that made my summer hiatus of 2011 a little easier. :)

Why this must be read: Greenlady, also known as Jen Hall, has a very different way of writing that I just love. My very favorite of hers has already been rec'd (La Vita Nuova series and also the Seidhrman series, which is great), and I thought I'd rec this one, too. If you like something different in an AU, and if you have a quirky sense of humor, you'll love this. The story is futuristic, Starsky's from another planet, Hutch is the commander of a space ship, and they end up married. Greenlady does such a marvelous job making the reader see these other worlds---she has an imagination you wouldn't believe! What I like most about her writing is her sense of humor--the dialogue sometimes makes me laugh out loud. And the stories are always sexy and full of love. Give it a try. You won't be sorry!

Why this must be read:

The premise of this story is intriguing and fantastical. It adds a wonderful bit of the supernatural to the world Jane Austen created. There is a maze at Pemberley. One year into her marriage to Fitzwilliam Darcy, Elizabeth goes walking, as is her wont, through the maze, but she emerges into a world not her own, a world in which Mr. Darcy did not arrive in time to stop Georgiana's elopement with George Wickham, and a world in which she and her husband have never met. Not only is this inconvenient and distressing to her and to her erstwhile husband, but she is obviously pregnant. So, what is a grieving and bitter Darcy to do with a pregnant woman who claims to be his wife but whom he has never met?

I do not want to spoil too much of this wonderful story, but suffice it to say that it is wonderfully written and crafted. The reader comes to care about both worlds, and wants a happy ending for both sets of characters. The original Elizabeth's appearance is the catalyst needed for everything to change for the second sad and lonely Darcy, who desperately needs his own Elizabeth, though he does not know it yet. I dare not say more for fearing of giving too much away. Highly recommended.

Why this must be read: There are many reasons why this must be read. Again, Jen Hall has such a great sense of humor! The final chapter (excerpt under the cut) where the guys come out to their families is so funny. But this is also tender and sweet, and it has a case, too! Starsky, for a change, is all gung-ho about the change in relationship, and he isn't taking any crap from Hutch. You're going to love it!

Why this must be read: I made the comment in the overview that pairings can seem like names drawn from a hat.  How to make an odd pairing bring out other sides of characters is some of the fun.  The facts: In the 2009 World Tour Finals, both players were in the round robin stage and the only way Novak could advance was if Robin won his last match.  Novak begged for "Sir Robin" to help ihm out.  Robin had already qualified so wasn't exactly motivated to play it out.  This story is about possible fallout, in which a drunken Novak appears at Robin's door.  It's a little bit sweet, a bit heartbreaking on Novak's part, and just a touch of evil on Robin's part but he's no villain.
