06:46 am Fear-Based Response by Calie (PG)
Fandom: HAWAII FIVE-0 (NEW)
Pairing: Steve/Danny hints (could be read as really strong friendship too)
Length: 1,100 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caliecat
Author Website: Masterlist of Fic on LJ
Why this must be read:

A neat look at a character not featured that much in ficcage (that I've read at least), Jenna Kaye, and a fantastic outsider look on the Steve and Danno dynamic in an episode that rocked fandom. This fic deserves a place among the best of H50 fics. Fangirls went spastic over the h/c that episode 1x23 gave us (myself included :D), and the hug! Oh the hug that rocked the H50 world... Calie expounds on the Steve/Danny elements through the eyes of Jenna, the new girl on the block. We get to see how earnest she is to earn her place in this family, this team. And seeing Steve as a character and his relationship with Danny through Jenna's eyes sheds some light on her motivations and backgrounds so subtly that Calie should be rewarded for expressing it so well, really. Overall, a blending of character exploration and canon h/c extravaganza that will make you want to read more!

03:53 pm Take Me Home by Anonymous (PG)
Fandom: WATCHMEN
Characters: Nite Owl, Rorschach, OC
Length: ~35,000
Author on LJ: Anonymous
Author Website: Watchmen Kinkmeme v. 5.0

Why this must be read:

This is a ghost story of the highest caliber, taking one of the classic ghost story tropes and turning it into an all-too-possible adventure in the Watchmen-verse. The characters are beautifully and poignantly written, and the story has just the right amount of creepiness to keep one wanting more.

05:30 pm There's a light on in Chicago by lalejandra (NC-17)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski/OFC
Length: 3200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra
Author Website: fic index
Why this must be read: This is a follow-up to i let you have it, i let you have it, which I would say is a fairly classic fic in the fandom--it's a story where Fraser and Ray have a one-night-stand with a woman called Dot, written from Ray's POV, and with a great sense of yearning and not-quite-resolution. And if you haven't read that story, well, this is a two-for-one rec. Anyway, in this fic, we get Dot's POV. I'm a sucker for an outside POV of a relationship, but I also really enjoyed the way the story showed us Dot herself. You can read this story on its own if you want.

08:09 pm No "I" in Nurse by Monkey_pie (PG)
Fandom: BANDOM (MCR)

Pairing: None

Length: Short

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] monkey_pie

Author Website: Same as above.

Why this must be read: Because it's a story about the loopy and tender reality of MCR being a family. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] yobrothatssick sick!Frank challenge, this is a nifty peek in how the Waybros and Ray take care of an extra-phlegmy!Frank.

One of the best things about this fic is seeing the different ways each band member approaches the situation. Ray's practical attitude, Mikeyway's quiet and observant temperament and Gerard's randomly zany but very earnest way of looking at things show the strength and love everyone in the band feel for each other.

With random asides to Wayspeak and Wayfunk (its more questionable cousin), this is a fic that celebrates the bond and the history of present-time MCR.

09:05 pm The Time for Tears by Slantedlight (PG13)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS:
Pairing: Doyle/Bodie:
Length: 1075:
Author on LJ: slantedlight
Author Website: byslantedlight@livejournal.com

Why this must be read: I have never been disappointed by one of slantedlight's stories. She writes the lads as tough, brutal, angry and honest as anyone I've read. This story gives you an unvarnished look at a work day in the life of our two favorite CI5 agents. It is ugly, shocking, fearful and just when you've had enough she grants both the reader and the lads relief.

You've been forewarned!
