Why this must be read:
Summary:
Blair likes it when Jim holds him down during sex. Jim notices.

Mab wrote this for the Sentinel page at multikinkmeme.

I felt for Blair in this story, for wanting something sexually but not wanting to admit he does. His feelings felt realistic to me, and so did Jim's response. The writing is crisp and vivid and the emotions tangled and messy, making this a memorable story in under a thousand words.

Why this must be read: Chris Larabee can be a hard man to understand until you grasp how much he's had and lost. Winks7985 does a lovely job of giving us a modern AU glimpse of Chris' past from Sarah Larabee's POV, and it's not the scarred, heartbroken Chris we get in canon. The fic is warm and sweet, full of love and family and joy. The tension in the piece comes from following where the author leads and it's hard, very hard, to know how the story will end.

She poked her head into to her son’s room, seeing he was still asleep. His breathing was even, and his small face was covered by his favorite blanket so that only the top of his head and a little of his light brown hair was visible. Smiling fondly, she backed out of the doorway quietly. No sense in waking him if he was so content. Besides, she could use the time to have a nice hot cup of coffee and enjoy the silence of the still morning.

With a smile still on her face, she continued down the hall towards the kitchen. Her hand ghosted a touch on her belly, right at the loose drawstring of her pajama pants… When she saw Chris today, she would tell him the news. She snorted to herself, thinking of Buck Wilmington suggesting Eve as a name if it were a girl. It would be just what she would expect from Buck… Adam and Eve.

Why this must be read: Bob Bryar - also known as Spit Fire, the fifth Killjoy - should've died in the desert after Korse shot him in the head. But death isn't permanent in the zones, and rescue's nearly as ugly.

This fantastic story is a multilayered, deeply engrossing addition to the Killjoys mythos. It tackles questions like the difference between ghosting and dusting and gives us a scenario where the idea of bringing people back from being dead feels plausible. The glimpses we get of the anarchic quality of zonerunner politics and what a final showdown with the repressive government of Battery City might look like feel equally realistic. It also has a fantastic Bob characterisation. His struggle to regain his memories and his humanity is both heartbreaking and hopeful.

Why this must be read:

YAGKYAS is another Christmas fic exchange - but it's Generation Kill-specific, and always produces great work across all sorts of genres and pairings. We're going to stay with humour fic for this rec.

This fic is excellent fun. Rudy leads the platoon in yoga... and some people (Brad) are worse at it than others (everyone else). Naturally, he doesn't take too well to this. Not only does it have a neat premise, snappy dialogue, and snark, it also has fantastic characterisation and an understanding of the characters. It's another of those scenes that could have come straight out of the mini.

I can't really pick an excerpt, because I love all of it, but we'll just go with the author's summary at this point: Where yoga isn’t really Brad’s thing. But it is a challenge, and those are.
