12:06 am Eight Days a Week, by Bluebrocade (NC-17)
Turns out I didn't have to give up the keys last month but instead strapped myself in for another ride in the van. I have several fandom loves, but due South is the fandom of my heart. I don't have a list of stories ready to rec this time, but I expect to highlight some recent ones while trying to find a few gems that were missed by the other drivers.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 4166 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bluebrocade
Author Website: Fic on AO3
Why this must be read:  Matchmaker!Dief FTW!

I had to go though the previous entries and double-check the delicious list to make sure this hadn't been recced before, because I couldn't believe that hadn't been posted here. It's a sweet, hot and funny story, with a pining Fraser tricked into making a move on Ray. But what makes this really stand out is bluebrocade's Dief. He's snarky, mocking and manipulative, and the banter between him and Fraser matches the best of what we saw on the show.

10:00 am Drink Red Wine and Be Merry by Erinya (Mature)
Fandom: THE MENTALIST
Pairing: Jane/Lisbon
Length: 6,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] erinya_fic
Author Website: On LJ and AO3
Why this must be read:

Jane and Lisbon dissect each other over an unplanned Christmas dinner. AKA another Jane/Lisbon character study! This time with non-graphic sex, a bit of canonical darkness, some snappy dialogue, and Christmas (it's snowing where I am...couldn't help myself, despite being a couple months late). Very well written, and leaves you aching for the both of them.

12:06 pm We Were the Potters by celestineangel (R)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairings: Gen with background Harry/Ginny (main characters are Harry and Lily Luna)
Length: 5k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] celestineangel
Author's Website: Her fics at DW
Why this must be read: This fic was originally written for [livejournal.com profile] hp_emofest and it certainly qualifies. The author readily admits she likes to make the Weasley family miserable, except she takes it out on the Potters in this fic. Please check out the warnings the author has provided.

This story has an amazing characterisation of Harry and his relationship with his daughter. If you are a fan of Ginny, perhaps you might want to be a little open-minded because she is cast as the quasi-villain of this piece. You will struggle, along with both Harry and Lily to try and understand just how a mother could turn her back on her only daughter. The prose is heartbreaking, Harry is wonderful and the story will give you an unsettling feeling at the end, which is truly the mark of a great writer.

01:07 pm Letters from the Northern Continent by The Hoyden (PG-13)
[livejournal.com profile] tobimonkee here I will be your Star Trek driver shuttle conductor for February I have been a Trekkie my whole life and like the different shows and characters for different reasons so expect some variety.

Fandom: Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Pairing: Jullian Bashir/Elim Garak
Length: 8,000
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thehoyden
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read:

Set post series during the rebuilding of Cardassia after the war Bashir and Garak are removed from their usual social setting and yet still very much themselves.  The idea that even when on the same planet they are still so far away they have to rely on technology to communicate adds some extra anticipation to the UST they had on the show.  It fits with their personalities and their relationship that it takes them so long to really understand each other.

06:58 pm THE EDGE OF EVERYTHING by Luxover (R)
hi! this is my second time behind the wheel, but hopefully you aren't sick of me yet. I did Football/Soccer RPF last time around, but this time I decided to focus specifically on my team, FC Barcelona. and I won't be duplicating any recs, so everything should be new to the comm! enjoy

Fandom: FC BARCELONA
Pairing: Lionel Messi/David Villa
Length: 10665 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luxover
Author Website: fic list
Why this must be read:

This was one of the first fics written about this pairing, which has since become one of the most popular in the fandom. So nowadays we're drowning in Messilla, as the portmanteau goes, but when I first read this I really had to be convinced - and convinced I was. The development of the relationship works beautifully, and the background ensemble is even better. The little snapshots of their teammates make me so happy (there's this one scene where Villa is teasing Andres and oh, my heart, I love them so much) and the more in-depth portraits of Leo's relationship with Pique and Pep respectively are so awesome, I don't even know what else to say.

10:51 pm New Rules by queeniegalore (PG-13)
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Ray Person/Walt Hasser
Length: 1355
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] queeniegalore
Author Website: Queenie's Fic
Why this must be read:

One thing about Generation Kill (and its fandom) is that it has a lot of humour. Alright, it's often rough, and dark, and snarky, and definitely not fit for young ears, but it's excellent nevertheless.

This fic is, quite simply, hilarious. It's my favourite from the '213 Things Ray Is No Longer Allowed To Do In The US Army' Fic Bingo Fest, which was inspired by the hilarious and outrageous '213 Things Skippy Is No Longer Allowed To Do In The US Army'.  The premise is that Ray and Walt play Calvinball for PT. I don't think I really have to expand on that much, except to say that this invariably has me grinning like a loon and giggling. It has a cute ending, too.
