12:52 pm Oh No We Didn't by Gil Hale (G)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Bodie/Doyle
Length: Short story
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Gil Hale's Fan Fiction
Why this must be read: Gil Hale writes Pros as I see it in the episodes - showing a deep connection between our two lads. She understands who they are, she knows where they live and how they work and what makes them smile. There's nothing explicit in her stories - I suspect she'd deny all knowledge of any kind of "pairing" - but she writes Bodie/Doyle all the same.

Oh No We Didn't is a fun example of exactly that - of the CI5 world in which the lads operate, and of their own little circle of two. If it doesn't make you smile all the way through, but particularly at the end, then slap me in the back end of a cow suit... *g*

Excerpt:
“I can’t understand it,” he grumbled over his coffee. “I don’t see how Bodie and Doyle could have been in two places at once, but if they’re not involved how come they haven’t been up on the board looking like idiots.”

“That’s easy,” Bodie said cheerfully. He’d come in behind Murphy and had been imitating all his gestures to the silent amusement of everyone else in the room. “Doyle and I don’t get ourselves into these situations. Unlike you, my son. How could anyone miss seeing a line of bloomers big enough to power an ocean-going yacht?”

“I saw the bloomers all right,” Murphy protested. “It was the clothes prop I didn’t spot.”

12:56 pm Just One Click Away by Sue David (R)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: none
Length: 92,179 words
Author on LJ: not known
Author Website: HERE
Why this must be read: Sue David’s story is so beautifully dark and so full of love that this mix makes the tale unputdownable. I love pre-series stories and in Just One Click Away I got over 92,000 words describing times that were only mentioned in the show and it was a delicious treat :)

Starsky was starting to lose his composure. "What about me? Huh? Have you thought about what it would do to me?" His voice was panicked and he wasn't sure if he should make a move now or wait. He knew it would be better if Hutch surrendered.

The partners' mutual pain electrified the room. Starsky maintained his steady stream of unspoken prayer that whatever he said or did would be the right thing to save his partner's life, even if it meant losing his own. He was sworn to protect him and that was what he intended to do, regardless of the cost. Hutch reached up with his left hand and gently wiped at the tears on Starsky's face.

"I'm sorry," Hutch muttered. "I'm so sorry."

Fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Pairing: Chris/Buck
Length: 4572
Author on LJ:
Author Website: CV Puerro's fic on DNF
Why this must be read: This is an ATF timeline fic and the author describes it best as joyful, rowdy, collegiate kink. This is one of the easiest fics for me to rec in any fandom because it's simply young men having fun, joyful sexy times. Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. :)

Why this must be read: An album, a video shoot, an overdue encounter. None of them could have imagined what would happen next. The story of three people, three seasons, three continents, and how things begin.

I love what the writers are doing with this relationship. The first story is pretty much a PWP but you can already see hints of the relationship dynamics that the later stories will explore. It's wonderful to get to see grownup people working their way into a relationship. The established pairing between Frank and Gerard being opened up to Grant and slowly becoming a true three-way relationship. Getting to follow the slow growth of emotional as well as physical intimacy between the three of them and the way it interacts with their various insecurities, is absolutely fascinating.

08:22 pm Care of Magical Creatures by mia madwyn (M)
Fandom: HARRY POTTER
Pairing: Severus Snape/Hermione Granger
Length: Epic (~289k)
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] miamadwyn
Author's Website: FFnet profile
Why this must be read: I had to triple check that this hadn't been recced yet. I'm the last person who would advocate student/teacher relationships OR SS/HG however this story is such a gem, that I have eaten my words and converted. Every SS/HG fan has read this story so I am hoping to convince those other readers who may not be interested in the pairing to give this story a chance.

First of all, the story starts out with the typical AU Marriage Law premise but Mia makes it believable. Hermione is nothing but prepared and logical, so of course, she was would ask an adult who was also a member of the Order, a powerful wizard and someone who would guarantee her protection from Voldemort to marry her. It makes complete and total sense. From there, Hermione's world completely changes. Mia takes the reader on one awesome ride, complete with evocative language and expert storytelling.

The story is an epic, in more ways than one, and very popular in the fandom. Give it a chance, you certainly won't regret it!
