Fandom: GENERATION KILL Pairing: Brad Colbert/Ray Person Length: 9337 Author on LJ: shoshannagoldWhy this must be read:We're heading back to Brad/Ray for this one - but their relationship isn't the focus of this story. The Generation Kill fandom is really good at dealing with the difficult stuff, and this fic - dealing with spousal abuse - is one of the best. It handles this hard topic with grace, dignity and realism. This fic focuses on what happens when action-oriented BAMFs like Brad and Ray - guys who care, despite/because of all their experiences - come across someone who is being abused. Needless to say, they do something, and do it well. The female OC - the abused wife of one of Brad's Marines - is both smart and relatable, and the way that Brad interacts with her is both realistic and very in-character. She's one of my favourite fem!OCs. Both Brad and Ray's voices are spot on, and their established relationship (and its strength and constancy) is a great balancing force with the hard issues dealt with here. Fandom: NCIS Pairing: Gibbs/Tony Length: 4,446 words Author on LJ: thehoydenAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read: Author's Summary: "Put the damn scarf on, DiNozzo, or I'll strangle you with it myself." What fandom is complete without those snowed in cliches? It's a staple of every one I've ever read in. And what a lovely cliche fill this fic is. A tender look at the Gibbs/Tony relationship, Interrogative melts you with the comfort and gentle affection between these two men. It's Gibbs/Tony at its domestic and sweet best as they find their way together. From warm soup left on a desk to remembering the other person's reading glasses to snuggling in the blankets after a power outage, this fic will warm your heart and soul. All of that and the comfort after the final few episodes of Season 2 and the hard beginning of Season 3 that those episodes created the need for. Just some love shared between two souls who need it and each other so badly. Interrogative

Fandom: Doctor Who Pairing: River Song/Eleventh Doctor/Idris Length: 5k Author on LJ: gidget_zbAuthor Website: fandom_bitchesWhy this must be read: Three things: 1.) Idris/TARDIS in pitch-perfect form. 2.) Original and wonderfully written Post-Library fix-it fic that draws both River and Eleven deftly. 3.) OT3 of Time and Space. Read it. Fandom: Doctor Who Pairing: Amy Pond/Rory Williams Length: 5k Author on LJ: dollsomeAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read: Amy Pond, and unconventional motherhood. This is what we never got to see onscreen, and what a lot of us desperately wanted - Amy dealing with the revelation and adjustment to the SPOILERS of River Song. It highlights the perfect functioning dynamic between her and Rory, and I just want something like this on my screen. The voices are so utterly pitch perfect, and the emotion just carries you through the story so well. You can hear Amy's voice narrating the entire thing. The Weight of Us( Excerpt )

Fandom: FC BARCELONA Characters: Cesc Fabregas, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero Length: 3151 + 3244 + 12071 words Author on LJ: weightedpassAuthor Website: fic listWhy this must be read:You know what Barcelona is great for that you don't get a lot of elsewhere? Gen. Really good gen. And stickmarionette is a really big part of why. She's been a part of this fandom since approximately forever and you can trust that her background research has been done. Read the footnotes! This particular series is also a good introduction to the "Baby Dream Team" (Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique and Lionel Messi), who feature very prominently in the fandom at the moment. the truth about you and me, the story of you and me and walking higher

Fandom: Sherlock Pairing: Sherlock/John Length: 11K Author on LJ: kate_learAuthor's Website: kate_learWhy this must be read:People have strong feelings about Valentine's Day. I thought about posting something schmoopily romantic, or something decidedly unromantic as a counter balance. This fic neatly walks the line. John comes up with a sappy romantic gesture that only Sherlock would appreciate. kate_lear paints an evocative picture of Sherlock's rather unique view of London and his relationship with John, and follows that up with lots of hot sexy sex. Fandom: The Magnificent Seven Pairing: C/B, E/V Length: 10,574 Author on LJ: charlottechillAuthor Website: charlottechill on AO3, WEC, and DNFWhy this must be read: Over the holidays there was a Yuletide-style gifting on Mag7Daybook and charlottechill turned out to be my secret Santa. Basically I asked for love and family and fuzzy warmth and she gave all of that and more. There is established C/B, there is a lovely Ezra/Vin pairing just blooming, the Buck and Vin friendship is especially nice, and all the guys being together as a family, acting like a family, was fabulous. Of course, the running curiosity about whether V/E is a go or not is wonderful, too. But he had long ago learned not to meddle in the affairs of his friends... okay, not that long ago, and maybe he still meddled when he really wanted to because he liked to see people happy. But Ezra and Vin were grown men and work partners, so he'd been trying to keep his nose out of their business. Still, they were similar in age and temperament, and Buck saw all the ways they were alike, and plenty of ways that their differences complemented each other. He'd seen all of Ezra's prickliness and all of Vin's patience, and he'd seen the way Vin looked at Ezra sometimes, when he thought they were alone.
When everybody'd thought Ezra was straight.
Ezra had made damned sure everyone thought that, playing that undercover role as well as he played any other. When Ezra had finally decided he trusted them enough, or that he wanted Vin enough, to give up that game just last summer, Vin--whooee! He'd been pissed for about five minutes, but he'd had an interest there for far too long, and anger had faded to strategy so fast, it still made Buck smile to think on it.Best of Times on AO3

Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: Dean/Jo, Sam/Jo, John/Jo Length: 1,988 words Author on LJ: valiantAuthor Website: fic master listWhy this must be read: The story is based on this prompt: Dean/Sam/FC or Jensen/Jared/FC (maybe even plus Jeff), established relationship (3/4some). She is pregnant, they don't know who impregnated her but they'll all be daddies. The guys can't get keep their hands off her and she can't get enough of them. Dirty talking is always a bonus. This is a luscious and sexy AU that is also quite domestic and sweet— how all of these merge to create a fic so full of love and passion is beyond my talent, but that's exactly what happens. Fandom: BANDOM Pairing: Gerard/Mikey, Frank/Mikey, Gerard/OC, Frank/Gerard/Mikey Length: 15,760 words Author on LJ: sneaky_senaAuthor on AO3: SenaWhy this must be read: It's the dirtiest thing Gerard's ever done, being in love with his brother, wanting Mikey and watching and waiting, taking what little he can get. This is an amazing story. Scorchingly hot and heartbreaking and full of longing and hope and love. I'm completely in love with the Gerard characterisation and the dynamics of his and Mikey's relationship and the way Frank's presence changes things. I also really like how shameless Gerard is about liking sex, and the thoughtful way he handles Frank's freakout. ( Excerpt from the story... )In My Blood Like Holy Wine (on AO3) or here (on LJ)

Fandom: Star Trek Deep Space Nine Pairing: Jullian Bashir/Elim Garak Length: Drabble Author on LJ: strangeseraphAuthor Website: Fic TagWhy this must be read:Since today is Andrew Robinson’s birthday I have to rec another Garak/Bashir future fic. Fandom: DUE SOUTH/SCARECROW & MRS KING Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, Lee Stetson/Amanda King Length: 8500 words Author on LJ: mizface (and on DW) Author Website: Fic on AO3Why this must be read:Most of the due South crossovers I have enjoyed have been with C6D fandoms, so it's a treat to come across such a delightful story involving a non-C6D fandom. Mizface found the perfect place to intersect the two, an Inuit art exhibit where Amanda's mother is abducted by someone who thinks she's Nautilus (from the dS episode Spy vs. Spy). I loved Fraser/Kowalski here, happily married with a good life together. But this time, they're on the civilian side of a case to be solved, a novel experience that doesn't sit too well with Ray. And while I read this as a due South story first, her Lee, Amanda and Dottie reminded me of how much I loved that show.
