01:21 am The Danse Manchac Affair by Chajka (author did not give rating)
How about a nice long gen fic to get a start on the week, right?

Fandom: THE MAN FROM UNCLE
Pairing: no pairing
Length: I don't know, a lot.
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: on File 40
Why this must be read: I love stories with a little bit of the supernatural and this one has a bunch, so that is lovely. And it is set in one of my all time favourite places, N'Awlins! Yay! And then out in the bayous where Grammy Danto's yard dogs take care of the oncoming THRUSH agents and save Napoleon from certain badness, gotta love that, too! (And I have actually been to Pas Manchac, blink and you'll miss it) I was amused by Illya's memory of an encounter Napoleon had with a denizen of N'Awlins, and of course imagined how I would have had that go oh so differently, yes indeed. *grin* I love how Illya is hell bent on saving his partner, despite odds and local superstition being against them, and I loved the last moment where Napoleon thanks his near miss savior in a most traditional manner. I found this a perfectly good story and am ever so happy to share it because I think it is wonderful.

05:24 pm Sir Brad the Dragon Slayer by sparky77 (R)
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick
Length: 1903
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sparky77
Author Website: Q's Fic
Why this must be read:

I've gone through canon and post-canon stories, so now I turn to AUs and crack. Many excellent AUs have already been recced, but when speaking of crack, one writer comes immediately to mind: [livejournal.com profile] sparky77. She takes Ray's joke that Brad joined the Corps because of the dragon-slaying commercial and turns Brad into an actual dragon slayer. As you do. And it is brilliant, laugh-out-loud hilarious, featuring the perfect squire!Ray and much insane badassery all around. Including Nate as the virgin sacrifice. Just awesome.

Brad’s eyes lit up and he smiled for the first since he slew the legendary three-headed dragon of Ur with only a rusty nail and a pillow as his weapons. “I can rescue a virgin? It’s been years since I got to do that!”

06:57 pm If you should ever need my life, come and take it by wh_mermaid (R)
Fandom: FOOTBALL RPF
Pairing: Edin Dzeko/ Aleksandar Kolarov
Length: 3378
Author on LJ:[livejournal.com profile] wh_mermaid
Author Website: [livejournal.com profile] wh_mermaid
Why this must be read: This piece is again from [livejournal.com profile] slyreflection. This is a piece that's different from a lot of what's written in football fandom. It's confronts, head on, the difficulties found in the Balkan region and how they affect players in their professional lives. It's a well written piece that doesn't flinch or dance around the issues that it's raised. The author's love and knowledge of her team (Manchester City) also shines through. This is a great read for someone looking for something a little different and fresh.

When he finally stops, he is across from what remains of the National Library. It was once a haven of priceless knowledge, now only the outer façade remains. The windows are boarded up and a fence keeps intruders out. The rest of Sarajevo burned, why would a library be exempt?
When he is fearful of the future, this is his stark reminder. He survived a war, genocide, a four year siege of his city. For all his uncertainties, he will always know he is a survivor.

08:07 pm Ugly Things by Sally M. (G)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none
Length: short
Author on LJ: sallymn
Author Website: at her LJ and at AO3

Why this must be read: An interesting glimpse of one of the drawbacks of being a sentinel.

We learn early on in the show that being a sentinel is more than enhanced senses; the price tag for the miraculous things Jim can do is that he has to live up to an extraordinary level of responsibility. No wonder he often gets tired of it all and wants to lay down the mantle. In “Ugly Things”, Sally shows us why Jim, despite it all, will stay the course.

She’s written more recent works, specifically “Voice” and “Water’s Nice…”, which are not sequels but explore a similar theme: what the senses buy Jim and what they cost him. Enjoy.

Fandom: HOUSE M.D.
Pairing: House/Wilson
Length: ~3000 words
Author on LJ: [info]jezziejay
Author Website: Fic List on LJ

Why this must be read:

One last fic from [info]jezziejay - this one much more typical of her House/Wilson writing, which is to say, hilarious, daft, and a bit sappy. It was written in response to a pic prompt challenge on [livejournal.com profile] sick_wilson and creatively ties all five prompts together into one funny fic. (The bit in the bowling alley literally leaves tears of laughter running down my cheeks.) Full disclosure: I beta'ed this.
