12:13 am "The Master, in Polyester" by ausmac (NC-17)
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS (UK)
Pairing: The Master/Gene Hunt
Length: 907 words
Author on LJ: http://ausmac.livejournal.com/
Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/ausmac/pseuds/ausmac
Why this must be read:

For today's crossover day, a brilliant little story from the "The Master in 1973" series (http://archiveofourown.org/series/8075) by the wonderful ausmac. Obviously, a Life on Mars/Doctor Who crossover.

This is hilariously funny, and hot! Contains some brilliant phrases like "And for the first time in…time…the Master found himself..." which play with the time travel wonderfully. Read the whole series for maximum enjoyment!

Author's warning: It could possibly be considered noncon, if you look at it sideways, for about thirty seconds. Mostly just a misunderstanding, really.

12:21 am Hathaway's Heart, Third Declension Nouns, and Other Oddities by Emungere (G)
Fandom: LEWIS
Pairing: Robbie Lewis & James Hathaway
Length: 3k
Author Website: Emungere at the AO3

Why this must be read:
This is a stunning story that explores Hathaway's emotional state post Life Born of Fire. It's beautifully and thoughtfully written but somehow also matter-of-fact and understated. So much is seething below Hathaway's surface here, and it's funny too—with great Hathaway/Lewis banter. All this and it finishes with an emotional kick that left me heart-sore and happy. (There is another short fic in this series that comes before, also totally wonderful. There may be more to come in the series but the stories both read as complete in themselves, hence the rec.)

He's Lewis's sergeant. It's a peculiar thing to be, simultaneously less and more than a friend, sometimes little more than an extra body for Lewis to command, sometimes half of a whole.

Why this must be read: I'm going to be honest. I'm not a big fan of mpreg. That said, this is one of the few mpreg fics that captivated me. I remember thinking "oh, okay, I'll just snag the PDF and I'll read it later." Instead, I went through the chapters of the fic in one sitting.

Why this must be read:

Summary: Some are born to be Guides, and some are dragged to it kicking and screaming.

This story is frankly, hilarious. It's a sentinel/ guide fic and there is a fair amount of cussing in it, so be warned, if that bothers you. When I first read the story, years ago, I didn't know anything about Due South, or the Dresden Files (Book Verse), and enjoyed it immensely, anyway.

The story takes place in Chicago. Ray Kowalski is acting strangely, after being kidnapped and held in an isolated place. He's driving his partner, Ray Vecchio, right up the wall ever since Ray K. was rescued. Cue looking up some expert help from Cascade Washington, (Hi, Jim and Blair) and things fall into place. And once they do, Ray K and Vecchio transfer to the weirdest cop shop in all of Chicago: Special Investigations, and Lt. Karrin Murphy doesn't take crap from anybody.

Vecchio makes a panicked phone call to Sandburg. Unfortunately for him, it's Ellison who answers the phone )

Why this must be read:

Very simply put, these two fics show sub!Arthur and top!Eames having a various good times together.  These are D/s + multiple-kinks good times so do take note of the author's warnings.  These are unrepentant, unapologetic and very enjoyable  PWPs.

Fandom: Star Trek (2009)
Pairing: Chekov/Sulu
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rhaegal
Author Website: Here
Why this must be read: Mainly I love this story for the characters and the theme of not settling for ordinary. Sulu is a frustrated academic when he meets Chekov and then learns what actually makes him happy. Christine is Sulu's roommate and a lover of both ice-cream and sappy movies--it's fun seeing her in the friend role here. There is also the whole background events of the movie and some TOS elements thrown in for good measure. All in all, an enjoyable fluffy read.

10:50 pm Flowers, Fruit, and Vodka by Jen Northwood (PG-13/Teen)
Fandom: BABYLON 5
Pairing: Delenn/Susan Ivanova
Length: 2275 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rivendellrose
Author Website: fanfic master post at Geek Chic

Why this must be read:

"Susan absolutely never intended to end up curled up on her couch with the Minbari ambassador."

I said earlier in the month that I ship post-series Susan/Delenn, which is something I pretty much discovered through fanfic. I'm convinced that the two of them would make a great couple later in life. I wasn't quite sure how Susan/Delenn femslash would work during the run of the show, though, because of John and Talia. And then I found this fic.

Oh, this fic, you guys. You guys. This is possibly the most luscious, sensual fic I've read in my life. Mid-season 2 (before/on the cusp of/instead of John/Delenn), Susan gets a little tipsy on an evening out and invites Delenn back to her quarters for a drink. Where she proceeds to regale the reader with slightly hilarious overblown metaphors for her attraction to Delenn, interspersed with very Russian commentary, and finally decides to do something about it...to an incredibly sexy (and frustrating!) response from Delenn. This fic is packed full of sensory details and really fantastic turns of phrase. In other words, it's hot. You may end up rereading it three times in a row and bookmarking it to reread when you need to put a smile on your face.
