09:56 am She's a swell gal, with a gun in her hand by eleanor_lavish (G)
Fandom: AVENGERS
Pairing: Steve/Natasha
Length: 2547 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eleanor_lavish
Author Website: at AO3
Why this must be read:

Short, sharp, and lovely look at Steve falling for Natasha, starting with the moment she uses his shield as a springboard in the movie. Nicely characterized, with a palpable sense of longing and a hint at reciprocation.

"It could be fun," she'd said, smiling and terrified, and he'd tossed her up onto the back of a damned flying alien vehicle.

Later, in the stillness of the aftermath, he'd looked at her and saw bruises forming on her cheek and knew there must be a dozen more in places he couldn't see. She ate her shwarma in silence and said, "What's next?" when they finished.

Steve thinks Natasha Romanoff is the most impressive girl he's ever met.

01:56 pm Endgame by Saucery (PG-13)
Fandom: STAR TREK REBOOT
Pairing: Kirk/Spock
Length: 1441
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] saucery
Author Website:  AO3
Why this must be read:

Pretty much what the summary says: "Kirk and Spock play chess. On and off the board.  Or, the one in which Spock stealth-marries Kirk. Because Spock's sneaky that way."

I know the "chess equals foreplay" analogy has been done quite a bit in the fandom but this is a delightful read, scorching hot, with so much UST and full of witty humor.  Saucery has such a lovely, precise way with words and she does a fantastic job of building the mood of the scene.  The banter between Kirk and Spock is so much full of win (I did mention the UST right?) and I love her characterization of Spock in this.   Highly Rec'd!

04:07 pm Curiosity Killed the Cat (Satisfaction Brought Him Back) by fleurdeliser and tuesdaysgone (Teen-Up)
Fandom: BANDOM (My Chemical Romance)
Pairing: Frank/Gerard
Length: 2886 words.
Authors on AO3: faviconfleurdeliser and favicontuesdaysgone

Why this must be read: If you've read faviconfleurdeliser's NASAverse, this is the modern, happier take on the concept. If you haven't, this is what happens when you take out Bobak Ferdowsi of NASA's Curiosity team and put in Frank with a mohawk. It's super timely, and just adorable besides.

05:22 pm A Grimm Situation by Zephyira (R by reccer)
Fandom: GRIMM
Pairing: none; gen
Length: 36,372 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Fanfic.net
Warnings: violence and gore
Why this must be read:

Author's Summary: A string of murdered Wesen has Nick scrambling to the find the culprit but runs into something he never expected and is forced to make a choice that could change his fate for the worse.

Another plotty fic dealing with other Grimms, this one shows us Nick interacting with a Grimm more like him and one like Monroe's worst nightmare (especially since he likes to hunt Blutbad). We also get more of the Reapers, Renard's secret plotting, and a string of Wesen murders around Portland that Nick needs to solve. Zephyira kept me guessing on the whodunit till pretty close to the end. It wasn't revealed who the crazy Grimm and the like-Nick Grimm were until about then as well.

The author really knows how to build up the suspense and keep you clicking that "Next Chapter" button like crazy. She builds a meticulous case-fic with murders that seem like they could come right out of the show and wonderfully detailed original characters that make you feel for them or just want to chop off their heads with those ever popular Reaper scythes. In all, this is a fantastic example of what can be found on Fanfic.net in the Grimm fandom.

Sorry that this is my first update all week, I actually had this open for the past two days but didn't get that far! I'll have to do something special to make up for it ;)

Anyhoo, here's my rec for today!

Fandom: SUITS
Pairing: Kyle Durant/OFC, Harvey Specter/Mike Ross (if you squint)
Length: 31k words
Author on LJ: I know she has one, but I'm not finding it right now.
Author Website: Ao3

Why this must be read:

Ok, I know what you're probably thinking: Why is she reccing a fic that is not only about a minor character that's only appeared in a few episodes, but it's a pairing with an original character? And the OC is pregnant? And it works? Riiiight. *coughbullshitcough*

I swear, I'm not nuts. This fic is just that good. The author's insight into the character is quite brilliant, and she's able to turn Kyle into someone that not only do you like, but you're actually rooting for. She leads you through Kyle's mindset after the mock trial win, his disastrous attempts to get on Harvey's good side, and how the biggest faux pas of Kyle's career ends up being the best thing that ever happened to him.

09:44 pm The Choices We Make by Arianna (Gen)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Characters: Jim Ellison, Blair Sandburg, Simon Banks, Naomi Sandburg, Joel Taggart, Henri Brown, Rafe
Length: 62518
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] caarianna
Author Website: Arianna…it’s about love (Slash) her work is also archived on Starfox’s Mansion (Gen) and AO3 (Slash)

Why this must be read: For the heart-wrenching angst alone.

Summary: Jim’s lack of trust has finally worn Blair down and he’s decided it’s time to move on; Jim doesn’t want him to leave but can’t seem to say or do anything to change his friends mind.

If you’re an angst junkie like me then this is a great read for you, the anguish starts off thick and fast and carries on full throttle as Arianna delves into the very foundations of Jim and Blair’s relationship. As the story unfolds we watch both men struggle against their own fears and insecurities as their friendship reaches breaking point and they’re slowly torn apart. Neither man truly wants to give up on the other so when fate lends a hand we’re taken on a journey of friendship and discovery which reaches into the very core of their bond. There’s also a lovely touch of mysticism as Sentinel and Guide find themselves at a juncture which requires a decision from each of them.

This is a gritty, tense and emotional ride that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. It’s an angst feast that begins immediately upon the episode Crossroads and ends post-TSbyBS.
