Fandom: STAR WARS Pairing: Luke/Mara Length: ~2200 words Author on LJ: vader_incarnateAuthor Website: Profile with storiesWhy this must be read:As a forever fan of the hurt/comfort genre, I came across this story which takes the 'hurt' to a brand new level: Luke has lost yet another love and is heartbroken, and Mara twists the knife. She doesn't mean to; the circumstances of this story lead to a rapprochement between her and Luke. To see why and how, please read this parody, a fantastic bit of well-in-character writing which pokes a bit of fun at the entire concept of hurt/comfort. Tactless

Fandom: GRIMM Pairing: Nick/Monroe Length: 1,876 words Author on LJ: selimnagisokrovAuthor Website: Fanfic.netWhy this must be read: Author's Summary: Prompt Fill for Anon on Grimm Kink. "What if Nick had this aggravating habit of getting himself stuck in strange places? Monroe's always getting the phone call begging for help out of tiny cracks in between buildings, up in trees, under the kitchen sink, sometimes in the doggy door..." A dang funny parody/reminder of how many times Nick calls Monroe for advice and help in his Grimm endeavors. While some of these scenarios are plausible, some are just downright hilarious. If they ever become plausible, Nick better learn how to be really flexible. XD And just some of the images these situations needing rescue make like Nick stuck in dryer or a doggy door... Monroe labeling Nick on his phone as baby Grimm... And the pic that accompanies that label is Nick stuck in Angelina's doggy door... LOL I swear you'll be grinning big after reading this, if not downright laughing out loud like crazy. Nick's Stuck in a Well

Fandom: THE SENTINEL Pairings: Jim/Blair Characters: Simon Banks, Rhonda, Henri Brown, Joel Taggart, Rafe, Megan Connor Length: 1479 words Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: Rebel’s Sentinel Fan FictionWhy this must be read: Because sometimes we just want to read something small and satisfying. Summary: Simon’s determined to make his point and ignores all the warning signs Rhonda tries to put into play…. Rebel does a great job setting the tone and atmosphere in this one. Basically, it’s a small scene that I believe could easily have happened in the series (obviously from a friendship perspective rather than the slash one implied here). It’s that realism and how it plays out that I find most appealing about this story. I also really enjoyed the characterizations and the small touches of humor mixed up nicely within the seriousness of the situation. This is an entertaining piece which holds a wealth of personality, friendship, a leap of faith and ultimately, trust. ( The Revelation )

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH Pairing: Starsky/Hutch Length: 11,774 words Author on LJ: killabeezAuthor Website: Archive of Our Own/KillabeezWhy this must be read:When I first read Killa's story, there was very little SH fiction on the fledgling internet. If you wanted SH fic, you read zines. In 1997, April Valentine's terrific zine, The Fix Vol. 17, had a story from a writer I'd never heard of, Rose Singer. The story was Vigil's End. I was not familiar with the writer better known in other circles as Killashandra, Killa, and more recently killabeez. And as soon as I started reading Vigil's End, I thought, Oh, no, not another Sweet Revenge hospital story! Even in 1997, there were so many, it could have been its own genre. And then I started reading. And by the end, I was even more in love with these guys, pretty blubbery, and roughly speaking, a big puddle of mush. And I'm not the big-puddle-of-mush-type. Starting shortly after the fire suppression sprinklers have gone off in Starsky's hospital room, Starsky, in a new room, has managed to fall asleep. Hutch's soft singing wakes him up. Hutch has snuck back in simply because he can't be anywhere else. He had come too close to losing Starsky, and all his regrets about the last year as they grew more distant are right on the surface. It's the middle of the night, they're alone, and Hutch has been hiding truths he'd rather die than reveal. But Starsky did die, at least for a few minutes, and the big blond is skating on emotionally thin ice. ( Read more about Vigil's End... )Vigil's End by Rose Singer

Fandom: GRIMM Pairing: Nick/Monroe Length: ~8,200 words Author on LJ: laceymcbainAuthor Website: Sticky Man Press, AO3Why this must be read: Author's Summary: "Why don't you just tell me why Hank thinks I run a book club on the first Monday evening of the month, and why he's offered to bring artichoke dip, which sounds awesome by the way, to the next meeting?” Nick closed his eyes, and when he spoke his voice was a rush of words. “Because it was better than him thinking we were having sex?” Monroe had always wanted to belong to a Book Club, but he'd never imagined it would be to help out Nick. I love the humor in this. As Nick digs himself deeper and deeper with Hank about why he's spending more time with Monroe, I can just imagine his eyes getting bigger and bigger in alarm and that "oh shit!" feeling. XD And I love how easy going Monroe is about it. He rolls with the book club idea and really takes it over. It goes from an excuse as to why Nick is over at Monroe's so much to an actual event with red wine, artichoke dip, and a very smug Monroe as he tells Nick of the ultimate certainty that in a few months, they will be having sex. I really liked how Lacey portrayed Nick's and Monroe's relationship. It's supportive, snarky, lively, and deep. They seem to be able to pick an idea from each other and just make it blossom; even if one of the two doesn't know it's blossoming into anything (poor, unobservant Nick... LOL XD). It's wonderful how Monroe knows just what is needed by Nick, be it comfort, being read to, or just a friendly beer after a hard day. Then there's all the UST in this; it builds and builds to the very last scene that will just leave you shivering. The (Grimm and Blutbad) Book Club (for the Eager and the Doomed)
