10:37 am Fashionably Late by Ruth Baulding (Rated T)
Hi everyone! I'm [livejournal.com profile] patientalien, and I'll be driving the van for the Star Wars fandom this month! This month, you'll get a variety of Clone Wars-era stories, most of which focus on Anakin's relationships with the people around him - because those relationships, in the end, really are his downfall.

That being said, here is the first stop!

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Anakin and Obi-Wan friendship
Author on LJ: I don't think she has one
Author Website: Ruth Baulding on ff.net
Why this must be read: Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship during the Clone Wars is both tender and adversarial, and Ruth Baulding manages to capture the ebbs and flows of the friendship with pitch-perfect accuracy. In this story, Obi-Wan's exasperation with Anakin's pride and recklessness and Anakin's frustration with always being one step behind Obi-Wan congeal into a hilarious and touching portrait, the highlights of which include not only a biting commentary on Anakin's fashion sense, but also Obi-Wan in a kilt.

I had a hard time picking just one of the author's fics for this, so please make sure you go to her ff.net profile page and check out the rest!

01:50 pm Gonna Be A Better One (A Thousand Miles To Your Door) by Traincat (Teen)
Fandom: DC COMICS
Pairing: Tim Drake/Conner Kent (AKA - Robin/Superboy, Tim/Kon)
Length: 18,667 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] traincat
Author Website: on AO3, on DreamWidth
Why this must be read:
Tim's father finding out about his secret life as Robin was the start of a whole lot of change in the Batfamily, and no amount of universe retconning can make fans forget about the pathos of those issues. This story posits that Tim and Kon were in a relationship prior to it all and deals with the fallout of Tim dropping off the radar... and Kon not accepting that. And yet, it is surprisingly lacking in the UBER-ANGST and massive melodrama that a lot of stories centering around this idea have. Somehow, the understated nature of this story makes it even better. The characters feel real and no one is vilified, not even Jack Drake. This story is sweet and lovely.

This is one of my absolute favorite stories centering around these events in the comics and I highly recommend it. :D

01:52 pm Wink, The by Golden meliades (G)
Fandom: SKIP BEAT!
Pairing: Kyoko/Ren
Length: one-shot at 5,968 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] golden_meliades
Author Website: author page at FF.net
Why this must be read: Kyoko's first-ever photo shoot has her in a bikini, in front of everyone, and Tsurga-san just won't stop teasing her! Cute and fluffy, this story made me laugh. I only wish the author had addressed how cold everyone was...oh my! Based on the cover for volume 13. [Set after volume 12. You just need to know about Dark Moon.]

Two Kyoko/Ren shippers have expressed interest in my recs, so I decided to start my month off with a dose of shippy comedy for their preferred pairing. ^^

02:01 pm Fandom Overview: Reservoir Dogs
Hi everyone,

I'm [livejournal.com profile] lilly_the_kid and I'm gonna be reccing Reservoir Dogs this month and I thought I'd start out with a fandom overview.
This will be full of major spoilers for the entire movie and there will be mention of violence and torture, so, please consider yourselves warned.

reservoir dogs title

Reservoir Dogs is Quentin Tarantino's first movie and it deals with the bloody aftermath of a botched diamond heist.

Hi, I'm Fern_tree and I'll be reccing for Life on Mars this month! :)

Fandom: LIFE ON MARS (UK)
Pairing: Sam/Gene
Length: 369 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mountland
Author Website: Mountland's Masterlist One, and Masterlist Two
Why this must be read:

Quite simply, it's just so powerfully written. It's more of a poem than a regular fic and manages to pack a vast, epic timeframe into a small amount of words while still delivering a wonderfully strong emotional impact. It's just brilliant.

09:56 pm REC: Madeleines by Amal Nahurriyeh
Hi everyone, I'm Dryad and oo, I am so excited to have the keys for the XF crack van this September!! I've been reading fic since *cough*theshowbegan*cough* and will be reccing some of my favorites.

Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: Mulder/Other, slash
Length: 28k
Author on LJ: Amal Nahurriyeh
Author Website: BringItOn
Why this must be read: So, in this particular fandom I tend not to read slash or Other fics but that doesn't mean I don't occasionally dabble outside my chosen pairing. I'm a 'shipper and for the most part don't see our Heroes in long-term relationships with any else but one another. I'm not saying this is healthy, but yanno.

Anyhoo, then there are fics like this, where you just ache for the Other. Read it. I promise you won't regret it.

10:06 pm REC: Sans Merci by Brighid
Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: PG13, Casefile(s)
Length: 52k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Brighid's page at Gossamer
Why this must be read: I love it when authors bring myth and literature into their stories, and Brighid's Sans Merci is...well. It's weird, and creepy, and appropriate, and something that would only happen to Mulder.

10:27 pm REC: Fugitive by Sheela-na-gig
Fandom: THE X FILES
Pairing: NC17, Mulder/Scully/Other
Length: 22k
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Sheela-na-gig at Gossamer
Why this must be read: Not only do I love this story because it's hot, but there is a touch of clarity about certain aspects of our heroes that we rarely see in the fandom. One mightsay these aspects are taken to the extreme, yet not necessarily unbelievably so. Utterly brilliant and I wish she had written more.
