08:57 am I'm Gonna Be a Part of It by fringedweller (R)
Fandom: THE AVENGERS
Pairing: Bruce Banner/Darcy Lewis
Length: 80,827 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fringedweller
Author Website: AO3

Why this must be read: I said earlier that I had two pairing tieds for my second favorite of the fandom, Bruce/Darcy is the second. Recently written for[livejournal.com profile] het_bigbang, this is great fic of how Darcy gets from New Mexico to New York. The Thing That Happened is dealt with rather uniquely. But Bruce and Darcy drifting into a relationship is sweet and realistic. And everyone figuring out how to help Bruce with the Hulk put a smile on my face.

11:08 am Hold Still (Let The Earth Move You) by bluflamingo (PG-13)
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick
Length: ~4200
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bluflamingo
Author Website: The Tangle of my Mind
Why this must be read:

Here's an example of the striking yet quiet character work that makes GK fandom such a pleasure. The story looks at Nate, at the end of the war and just returning home, stuck in between what he has to do and what he wants to do, what he planned for and what he got. Nate is tangibly present - the sharp glints of humor, the crushing weight of command - even as he's not dealing well. It's a heavy read, insightful and beautifully done.

Two days, three days, up, run, briefing, patrol, home, paperwork. Nate feels like he’s swimming through the routine, or maybe drowning in it, and this isn’t how he thought this would go.

It isn’t how he thought it would end, and maybe it’s better than some of the endings he imagined, none of the dress uniforms and regret he thought he had coming to him, but that doesn’t make up for the rest of it.

12:50 pm An Ideal of Grace by afrocurl & nekosmuse (Mature)
Fandom: X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (with hints of Earth-616 universe canon)
Pairing: Erik Lehnsherr/Charles Xavier (background Erik Lehnsherr/Sebastian Shaw, Charles Xavier/Scott Summers, Scott Summers/Logan, Raven Darkholm/Azazel, Moira MacTaggert/Sean Cassidy)
Length: 86,244 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] nekosmuse, [livejournal.com profile] afrocurl
Author Website: nekosmuse.com, nekosmuse on AO3, afrocurl on AO3
Why this must be read:
Everyone loves an AU, right? This is a fantastic AU with a happy ending, full of misunderstandings and hijinks and angst and silliness with a well-developed story and good characterizations. I kinda really adore it. Also, sequels! :D

Author's Summary: Erik Lehnsherr is a visiting professor at Columbia University, as well as an acclaimed and award winning poet. Charles Xavier is a lead researcher with the Genetics Department who is well on his way to tenure. But what happens when Charles has to cancel a class because half his students abandon him in favour of a mysterious new English Lit professor? Naturally he ends up sitting in in the class, where Professor Lehnsherr mistakes him for a student. It's really too bad Erik has such a strict policy against dating students. It's also too bad Erik doesn't seem to know how to use Google.

03:29 pm Happy Birthday, Ren! by La Morraine (PG)
Fandom: SKIP BEAT!
Pairing: Kyoko/Ren
Length: 2 chapters, 7,740 words
Author on LJ: none that I can find
Author Website: German | English
Why this must be read: Every Kyoko/Ren fic includes the revelation of the three big secrets between them, and some fics handle it better than others. This fic is one of the best, in a perfectly believable and smushy way. My reaction through the whole fic was pretty much "D'awwww!" So cute! [set around volume 20]

Fandom: SKIP BEAT!
Pairing: none
Length: one-shot at 2,890 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] kasuchi
Author Website: their LJ tag for "fic"
Why this must be read: I liked how this fic lets us follow Kanae's and Kyoko's friendship through their cell phones. Kanae's thoughts on Kyoko's crazy life are a hilarious touch. A sweet friendship fic! [set early in the manga through the end of volume 25]

11:26 pm Jigsaw by DiraSudis (Teen)
Fandom: Stargate SG-1
Characters Jack O'Neill, Sam Carter, Daniel Jackson, Teal'c
Length: 66,906 words
Author's Warning major character death
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] dsudis
Author's website: AO3
Summary: Jack wakes up in the SGC to the news that his team is dead. If he weren't hearing the news from General Hammond he might not believe it--and even so it's not quite real until he sees the bodies. Once he does, he knows nothing is ever going to be the same again.

Sam wakes up in the SGC to the news that she is now the senior member of SG-1. Jack O'Neill is dead. For Sam and her team, nothing is ever going to be the same again.

SG-1 might be able to go on like this--Sam's going to keep her team together if it kills her--but a man who's lost his team is capable of anything, and Jack's about to do the unthinkable to make things right.

Why this must be read:

This is a long, plotty story that really examines the psychological effects of a certain piece of alien technology, and what it means to be an SGC team.  There are a number of fics that explore the use of the Quantum Mirror to meet up with people who are dead in your own universe, but imho this is the best one.  I particularly like the way that the people from the different universes are all subtly different--that was handled very well, which is a must for quantum mirror fic.  And seriously, it's dira, who is an awesome writer.
