Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
Length: 960 words
Author on LJ: [personal profile] mab_browne
Author Website: on Artifact Storage Room 3

Why this must be read:

Jim in a pinstripe suit and Blair in leather is pretty hot.

The author’s summary states: “Jim and Blair are a study in contrasts.” And they are, especially in this delightful little story they are dressed contrastingly. Each is heading for a different social occasion. Jim is going to his father’s seventieth birthday celebration. Blair can’t go along with him, because he’s been invited to the engagement party for some friends of his. The theme of the party is “leather and lace” and as Blair tells Jim, he’s not the “lace type” so he’s decked out in tight leather pants. Jim, on the other hand, is wearing more conservative attire, a suit.

This story has Jim and Blair in an established relationship and they enjoy the view each of them presents as they prepare to go to their respective parties. Blair decides that he wants Jim to come pick him up from his party so that his friends can see how attractive Blair’s boyfriend is. Jim isn’t so sure, especially since Blair is going to drive himself to his party in his own car. But Blair convinces him it would be a good idea anyway.

Mab’s Jim and Blair are adorably recognizable and in her hands the two of them are in love and happy, just the way we’d like them to be. No angst here, just cheerful plans for a hot time after they get home. And what could be better than that?

05:48 pm A Little Bit Drunk, A Whole Lot Sad by ButterflyGhost
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Francesca Vecchio
Length: 4599 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bghost

Why this must be read: Aside for being a very rare pairing, the take on Fraser's deconstruction is fascinating and well-written; he's very much himself, but he's not a Mountie, he's not a paragon of virtue, but a man who got turned around and made a bunch of mistakes. Given his childhood, ButterflyGhost draws a pretty natural conclusion that Fraser in this universe is a man who went the other way. Nonetheless, Frannie's compassion and characterization is lovely, and Fraser isn't a villain by any means himself.

08:14 pm Vid Rec: SHERLOCK - "Pursuit"
Vidder: The Sherlock Fan Orchestra
Musical artist: The Sherlock Fan Orchestra
Pairing: none
Vidder on LJ: unknown
Vidder's website: Youtube Channel
Why this vid kicks ass:

Sixty-eight musically talented fans from all over the world contributed tracks that were assembled into a wonderful rendition of "Pursuit," the jaunty score to the taxicab chase in "A Study in Pink." Accompanying the music is a well-edited video interspersing views of the participating musicians with scenes from Sherlock. I am in awe of the love, skill, and dedication that went into creating this ultimate collaboration of Sherlock fan love. It makes me happy every time I watch it.

10:30 pm I'd like to have the time I lost (give it back to you) by noelia_g (NC-17)
Fandom: GENERATION KILL
Pairing: Brad Colbert/Nate Fick
Length: 11,699
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] noelia_g
Author Website: stop. look. listen.
Why this must be read:

This story reimagines Brad's relationship timeline a bit and gives us a Brad metaphorically stuck while everyone else moves forward in life. Naturally, that's when his life becomes Groundhog Day; Brad finds himself reliving the same day over and over and over. And hey, funny thing, it just so happens to be the day he goes to visit Nate. Awesomeness ensues.

Brad stares at the ceiling for a very long while before he gets up. His watch maintains it’s yesterday. Or the day before yesterday, actually. Still, or again, or whatever the fuck.

He doesn’t think he’s insane, but then again, how can a person tell? He calls up Ray, because insanity likes company, and there’s no insane company like Ray. “I think I’m stuck in a Bill Murray movie,” he says.

Ray doesn’t miss a beat. “I hope it’s Ghostbusters. Because if it’s that Sofia Coppola pretentious artsy Japanese dicksucking crap, then... well, at least you might have a chance to bang Scarlett Johansson.
