Fandom: SHERLOCK BBC Pairing: John Watson & Sherlock Holmes Length: on the short side of medium Author on LJ: freakishlemon Author Website: FF.net (but no Sherlock stories) Why this must be read:This is one of the most adorable John stories ever. John's gran teaches him how to knit when he is eight. As he grows up what he knits, who he knits it for, how friends and family react to his knitting, and what knitting means to him are all woven into his character. John doesn't tell Sherlock.... not really that he is embarrassed but that he is curious about how long it will take his flatmate to figure it out. Warning: you may experience an inexplicable urge to take up knitting yourself. There is also a charming podfic, read by lunchee. ( Try a sample... )Weaving in the EndsWeaving in the Ends podfic

Title: The Silence of Eagle’s Nest by Morgan Briarwood with art by Mella Pairing: TS: Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg, DW: Rory Williams/Amy Pond Length: 7200 words Author & artist on LJ: briarwood mella68Author Website: Morgan at AO3 and Morgan at LJArtist Website: Mella at DeviantArt and Mella at LJWhy this must be read: This is another fine offering from this year’s Sentinel Reverse Big Bang challenge, in which the art is submitted first, then the author writes a story inspired by the art. Jim is a sheriff in a nineteenth-century Texas town called Eagle’s Nest, but he wasn’t always so. Five years before he was a twentieth-century police detective in Cascade, Washington. As you may have guessed, he landed in Texas courtesy of the Doctor, and has been waiting for a return visit. When the TARDIS shows up, there are more than a few surprises in store, including how Jim’s sentinel abilities might be able to help battle a bizarre enemy. Enjoy. Fandom: THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN/BONANZA Pairing: none Characters: Chris, Josiah, Vin, Ezra, Ben Cartwright, Adam Cartwright, 'Hoss' Cartwright, Little Joe Cartwright Length: 40K Author on LJ: tipper_greenAuthor website: Tipper's FictionsWhy this must be read: It's a cleverly plotted, old west romp of a fic, crossing two sets of characters very deftly and with good balance. The set up is intriguing and nicely complex - simply put, following a prisoner transport gone wrong, Josiah is on the run for murder, accompanied cross country by Chris, Vin and Ezra. To complicate matters, both Josiah and Ezra are wounded, and the quickest route to safety and home takes our four across the Ponderosa. Cue a tense Mexican stand-off between our boys, their corrupt lawmen pursuers and the Cartwrights. The backstory for how they've landed in this mess is neatly revealed as the story unfolds. There are nice crossover elements between characters from both shows, and a poignant significance put on the Ponderosa ranch house and what it represents. Meg locates us firmly in the wide open spaces of the far west, and the whole reads like an episode of an old TV western... like 'Bonanza' in fact, although, admittedly, with added conniving, suffering Ezra :) ( "Ponderosa?" Josiah frowned. "What's the Ponderosa?" )Four Corners of the Ponderosa

It's Xover day! Yey! Though this is not so much a crossover as a fusion. Fandom: Naruto, His Dark Materials - Pullman. Pairing: Hatake Kakashi/Umino Iruka Genre: M/M slash, drama, romance. Length: About 4300 words Author on LJ: avocado_loveWarnings: None. Author Websites: AO3Author's Summary: When Kakashi first began to see people's souls manifested as animals, he naturally assumed he had lost his mind. (Using His Dark Materials themes, but not a true crossover.) Why this must be read: I'm not actually familiar with Pullman's HDM and so I was a little worried about reading this the first time. I shouldn't have been. As the author says, the themes are there but it's firmly set in the Naruto-verse and so no extra knowledge is required to enjoy this really rather sweet romance. AvocadoLove has some wonderful turns of phrase and the insights she gives into the internal lives of the characters are more than memorable. Remember to feed the author after you've finished. Fandom: TEEN WOLF Pairing: Chris/Peter Length: 2 200 circa Author: kitausuWhy this must be read: This pairing is very very guilty pleasure of mine, because they haven't exchanged a word in canon xD (bad fan is bad *I swear, usually I'm not so*). Buuuut, sexy older men, who probably know each others, should share a story, isn't? And an interesting one. ( Excerpt )Chris Argent x Peter Hale series

Title: The Shadow Over Chatsworth by Martha Pairing: none; gen Length: 17, 273 words Author on LJ: saffronhouse Author Website: AO3Why this must be read: Author's Summary: Rodney McKay really hates small towns. Another stellar example of Martha's grasp of atmosphere, Chatsworth gives us a chilling tale of survival and the eerie side of small town life. Talisman-wearing local folk, shadowy monuments, flower bedecked bed-and-breakfasts, and haunting imagery of death all give this piece a un-natural feel and makes a shiver go up your spine. I swear you'll be looking over your shoulder with this one. We also get some fantastic character voices for Rodney and Daniel, two characters that don't get that much interaction in either canon but who so go together here. We get the snark, the competition between disciplines, and the bond of friendship as they fight for each others lives against an enemy that is freaky and oh so familiar. This is definitely a fic to savor with a cup of tea/hot chocolate and a night light. ( More Yummy Martha freakiness... )The Shadow Over Chatsworth

Fandom: BANDOM/PROJECT RUNWAY Pairing: none Length: 6K Author on LJ: idyllAuthor Website: on AO3Summary: This season of Project Runway becomes infamous for reasons beyond the quirks of the designers, Matt P.'s ousting, Pete's apparently crippling co-dependence on Patrick, and the rumored trysts between Mikey and Pete spawned by their formation of the Sweet Little Dudes Club (and the resulting matching t-shirts).Why this must be read:This is a hilariously cracky story that never fails to make me laugh. It's more a fusion than a crossover and the premise of the story is that they are designers competing on Project Runway. All the quirks that the guys have are still there but their focus is on fashion and designing instead of on music and performing. They're still creating, the only thing that's different is the way they do it. There is also podfic version that is definitely worth listening to (again and again). Bonus crossover rec, because I can. This time it's art. Fandom: Naruto, Bleach Pairing: None Genre: Portrait. Length: N/A Author on LJ: Unknown Warnings: None Author Websites: Deviant Art. Why this must be seen: This is pure self-indulgence. Two of my favourite characters in the same picture. Can we say 'book-buddies'? Totally a match made in heaven, though I don't think the same can be said for Pakkun and Yoruichi. Hentai Sensei by Agent-Elrond
