Hello! I'm Chris, and I'm your Teen Wolf crack_van driver for November! If you have yet to be introduced to the cracky wonders of TW, I hope you'll give this post a chance to be your gateway drug! In the past few months, as Teen Wolf took over pretty much every corner of fandom ever with rather startling speed, you may have read people rhapsodising about the wonders of one Stiles Stilinski, or perhaps heard people commenting on the actual possibility of a slash ship going canon for the first time ever omg!. Mostly, if you're not into Teen Wolf, you're probably wondering why on earth so many people are obsessing over an MTV show about werewolves. (From what I can gather, this comic accurately describes every single Teen Wolf fan's spiraling descent into teen-wolf-dom. It's uncanny.) ( Abandon all hope... )

FlorFandom: Real Madrid RPF Pairing: Guti/OMC, Guti/Arancha de Benito Length: 2,451 words Author on LJ: canarycreamsAuthor Website: available on her livejournal Why this must be read: when we slash real people who have relationships and families in real life, it's often easier to just gloss over the conflicts. this is a really amazing story that chooses to do the opposite: to provide a realistic portrayal of what suppressed desire and infidelity can do to a family. guti (aka josé maría gutiérrez hernández) is an especially interesting character, because of how rumors of homosexuality dogged him throughout his playing career; the most famous chant about him involved a homophobic slur. this is a really beautiful piece, in that it it's sympathetic to his struggles, while also showing the damage he's left in his family. "I'm sorry," Guti tells her closed eyelids. The words feel heavy on his tongue. He touches her hand, gently slides the script free and sets it aside, removes her glasses. He showers quickly, throws his filthy clothes in the hamper, brushes his teeth, fills the sink with water and props her flowers in it. She'll see them; she always wakes up before he does.
She doesn't stir when he climbs into bed. She used to be a light sleeper. Years of infidelity, absence as anesthesia. He kisses her forehead. "I love you," he whispers, and laces their fingers together.
(These are two things he never says to her when she can hear him, the two things that he tries to say in peonies and carnations instead. After seven years she is tired of the former and doesn't want to hear the latter. If you love me then why do you do this to me, José María.)
(I can't help it. I would tear this thing out of myself if I could. I've tried. I try. You don't know how hard I try. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I love you.)Flor

Fandom: STAR WARS Characters: Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, many Jude Watson creations Length: About 11000 words Author on LJ: There does not seem to be one. Author Website: C Author ListingWhy this must be read:This story contains many of Jude Watson's characters in a Temple story of intrigue and blackmail: Tahl, Xanatos, Bruck Chun, Reeft, Garen Muln and an adorable Bant. The story allows the reader unfamiliar with Watson's EU tales to figure out all the characters pretty swiftly. The action plumbs the depths of the archaic Temple so very well, and the Wodehouse-ian style of writing made me giggle as Qui-Gon strives to explain his actions to Yoda from a safe distance away in hyperspace. He succeeds, I think. The Book of Sins

I'm moving halfway up the East Coast (of the U.S.) the week after next, so this is my attempt to get as many recs out as possible before I start forgetting about things in the shuffle. Fandom: THE HUNGER GAMES Pairing: Mostly gen with references to Katniss/Peeta, Finnick/Annie, Haymitch/Chaff Length: ~5k words Author on LJ: aimmyarrowshighAuthor Website: Twitter | Tumblr | FFNWhy this must be read: This fic creates and explores bits of truths and backstories for the two dozen Victors chosen for the Quarter Quell in Catching Fire. Some are barely a sentence long, others are nearly one-shots of their own, but each item will give you pause. Many will make you reconsider how little you cared about the unnamed or more brutal Victor-Tributes, or those less sympathetic to the rebellion--not to mention what the Capitol is capable of. The author writes with a cool detachment, recounting facts without passing judgement, and the overall effect is excellent. ( 004. Fandom: POKÉMON Pairing: Silver/Kotone, Silver/Green, hinted Green/Red Length: 6763 words Author on LJ: kitsuneasikaAuthor on AO3: kitsuneasikaAuthor on FFnet: kitsuneasikaAuthor Website: Fanfic Master List Why this must be read: This piece has so many things to appreciate: a narrative told through letters, travel, rare pairs, pitch perfect characterization. It is definitely one of the most romantic stories I have ever read, and this quality is due in great part to the longing atmosphere and tone that Kitsuneasika develops. Perhaps the strongest aspect of this fic, however, is its exquisite pacing. The relatively slow development builds up the characters exceptionally well, and the culmination of these aspects makes for an intensely satisfying resolution. ( Excerpt: Silver makes an exasperated sound, and unfolds the letter, tearing a blank strip from the last, mostly empty page. )" moments through an hourglass" (can also be read on AO3)

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Fraser/Original Female Character, Ray Kowalski/Maggie McKenzie, Ray Vecchio/Stella Length: 50,000 plus, novel length Author Website:http://archiveofourown.org/users/dS_Tiff/pseuds/dS_Tiff Why this must be read:Tiff is one of the strongest casefic writers in the fandom. Every story she writes, whether angst, fluff, or comedy, has twists and turns which one could never anticipate. By the time you finish one of her well crafted stories you have a real sense of satisfaction, purely from a narrative angle. She also writes canon characters with true respect and understanding. In a story this long, you can really get lost in the world she is creating, and enjoy every moment of the plot unfolding.
