Why this must be read:
This different meeting AU was first published in the zine "Journey of the Senses 11". In this story Jim is using his enhanced senses working as a chef and he is hired by Major Crime to cook for Blair who is recuperating from his near drowning by Alex Barnes. Jim feels strongly protective and attracted to Blair from the start and the story deals with their developing relationship interspersed with lots of lovely food porn. I really enjoyed the gentle pacing of the story and all the mouthwatering food details.

Why this must be read: For my final rec this month, I present you with one of my favorite crossovers ever. I'm a little biased because I was the beta for this story, but believe me when I tell you that IT. IS. AWESOME. Sometime after "Journey's End," S.H.I.E.L.D. recruits Martha Jones away from U.N.I.T., and she ends up first in Puente Antiguo and then smack-dab in the middle of the events of the Avengers movie. [livejournal.com profile] kerrykhat does a phenomenal job of keeping track of a lot of plot threads and steady, believable character development. The parallels she draws between Loki and the Master are astounding, and by the time you finish this joyride, you'll wonder how the heck Earth's Mightiest Heroes ever managed without the good Dr. Jones. (Bonus appearances by some Torchwood regulars!)

It was relatively rare that she met people that she’d known in the other timeline. Rare enough that it was always a jolt to see a face, familiar and yet not, looking at her with no knowledge of had happened. )

I'm approaching my limit!

Fandom: MERLIN
Pairing: Arthur/Merlin
Author on LJ: bananahater336
Summary: Merlin is the perfect PA for Arthur.
Why this must be read: Arthur doesn't really appreciate Merlin until he does. I love this, because Merlin likes doing things for Arthur, and Arthur is so needy in that he simply can't function well outside his job. This is a romantic and very sweet read!

Why this must be read: I found this intriguing little story quite early in my fandom journey, and always remembered it fondly. But, in the way of "too many stories, not enough breadcrumbs to retrace my steps," I somehow lost track of it. I am delighted to have located it again, to share here. It's easy to read this story in a brief amount of time--only 900 words--but the very best way to read is to pause and savor the visual cues and the author's skilled study of their relationship. She has both a gentle and a wicked eye for their antics, their feelings, and what draws them together. She documents it all so well--how they understand each nuance and how they are constantly aware of one another. As Demus writes: They started fighting at the academy, those two wise ass kids, as stupid as they were smart, always tugging at each other like noisome puppies, wrestling, testing their strength.

I like how we get such a sense of "them"--sharing space and time, passing looks between them like a celebratory glass. We get a few other points of view, too, as Dobey and Huggy witness the deep feelings beneath that form the bedrock of their partnership. Oh...and more than a "that's my buddy" partnership--there is a sexual attraction running throughout that paints everything in an arc of delicious and teasing fire.

I hope you enjoy!
