Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: River Song/The Doctor, Amy Pond/Rory Williams
Length: 5K words
Author on LJ: easytheretyger
Author Website: Master list
Why this must be read: Headcanon accepted. This fic--which sees River packing up her parents' house post-TATM and wondering where their farewell note to her is (if it even exists)--sort of broke my heart and pieced it back together again. I love stories that flesh out and balance her marriage to the Doctor and that give him the chance to support her in turn. And the illustrations of River's variable childhood leave so much to the imagination while feeling complete.

She found Rory’s first. Then Amy's. )

05:36 pm "The Edge of All Our Fears" by mack-the-spoon (PG-13)
Fandom: FRINGE
Characters/Pairings: Olivia Dunham
Length: 4010 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] mack_the_spoon
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

Because this is the only fanfic I've seen relating to the episode "Lysergic Acid Diethylamide" that comes at it from the POV of Olivia. It's a view on this I hadn't even realised I was missing but was very happy to find.

08:11 pm "Travelled On His Looks" by Petra (PG)
Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: none
Length: 2,200 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] petronelle (no longer in use)
Author Website: Petra on Ao3
Why this must be read: Crossover time!  Let's hear it for due South plus DC's Batman comics.

I love cop stories and I love silliness.  Fraser and Kowalski running amok pursuing criminals in Blüdhaven with the help of the Bat-family's usual vigilante activity certainly fits the bill. Petra writes solid characterization for both 'verses and does a good job contrasting the brands of surreality that each uses.  Fraser and Nightwing discuss cross-dressing for justice, Nightwing and Ray are annoyed at each other's methods, and Robin plays bait.

For reasons that do not need exploring at this juncture, Benton Fraser is on a rooftop in Blüdhaven, New Jersey, a city which Ray describes as having "all the charm of a pig farm in July without the damn bacon."...

Fandom: Bandom (Panic at the Disco)
Pairing: Spencer Smith/Brendon Urie
Length: 30,382 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] littlemousling (inactive, find her at DW: [personal profile] littlemousling)
Author Website: at the AO3
Why this must be read: If you like BDSM stories that feel realistic and are off the beaten track, this one is for you. Spencer goes on a journey to re-examine his identity or rather, what he looks for in life, and it's embedded into a hot and touching romance story.

10:21 pm Blackmail, by Wuchel1 (PG)
Fandom: PERSON OF INTEREST
Pairing: John Reese & Harold Finch
Length: 1600 words
Author on LJ: n/a
Author Website: profile at ff.net
Why this must be read: This is a nicely comical look at a situation where Reese didn't quite manage a triumph. Short and enjoyable, especially for the interactions between Reese and Finch. (Note: the author's first language isn't English, but other than a couple of minor glitches, it's not obvious.)

11:49 pm Rescue Me by Rebelcat (R, Death)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Length: about 1320 words
Author on LJ: myrebelcat
Why this must be read: I have a hard time reading deathfic, and tend to avoid it because it’s too gut-wrenching.  Occasionally, though, I come across a death story – usually because I somehow miss the author’s warning – and find a work that is so well done I have to read it – and re-read it – despite the pain.  That is the case with Rebelcat’s “Rescue Me.”   It is sad and painful and haunting, but incredibly beautiful at the same time, and the boys’ voices are clear and true.  It is a brilliant piece and should not be missed; so, if you can withstand a little heartache, please read “Rescue Me.”
