04:23 am White Collar/Star Trek Reboot (NC-17/Explicit)
Title/Author Break Down in the Shape of Things to Come by Shaenie
Fandom: White Collar/Star Trek Reboot fusion
Pairing: Neal/Peter
Length: Over 100k
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] shaenie
Author Website: On LJ, On AO3

Why this must be read:

I don’t tend to read many crossovers (though I’ve written a few), because they need to involve fandoms I have at least a passing familiarity with, but this one came at just the right time for me. I was just getting into the Star Trek Reboot fandom last summer when this fic fell into my lap, and, because it involved my primary fandom, it made the Trek ‘verse that much more approachable. The story is a fusion of White Collar into the Star Trek Reboot ‘verse, and while the characters of the Reboot are referred to often, they don’t really play a part. Hope that counts for Crack Van Collision?

Lengthy rec is lengthy… )

08:42 am Sherlock Holmes/Doctor Who The Eye of God by qlstrange (Teen And Up Audiences)
Pairing: John Watson/Sherlock Holmes
Length: 66306 words
Author on LJ:not on lj that I can find
Author Website: qlstrange on AO3
Why this must be read: Because this is one of the best Doctor Who crossovers with any version of Sherlock Holmes canon I have ever read. It takes the crossover premise and goes so far beyond it. It is like a season of Doctor Who with Holmes and Watson as companinons and it is incredible. Of course the Doctor and Holmes would hit it off, and of course Holmes would take his beloved Watson with him to the ends of the universe. The various interactions between Holmes, Watson, and the Doctor are rich, engaging, and beautiful. This is an epic adventure full of plot twists, humor, and romance.

08:48 am Fringe / Dexter - "Pseudo-Science in the Magic City" by tcbg77 (R)
Fandoms: FRINGE, DEXTER
Characters/Pairings: Astrid Farnsworth/Debra Morgan
Length: ~14k words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] tcbg77
Author Website: unknown
Why this must be read:

This crossover is not one I would have expected and neither is this pairing it brings with it but this works so incredibly well how it is written that it feels easy and right. You have further insight into both women's working situations, especially Astrid's, as well as a taste of their personal lives (interrupted as it is implied life is for staff of either department) and Debra's dialogue is spot on. The placement of a Fringe case in Miami also makes for an interesting change of scenery I liked.

Why this must be read: Tony Stark is such a powerful and overconfident individual that it's not news to say he's at his most interesting when he's powerless. This one-shot, which follows him through the Year That Wasn't, considers what Tony (and not so much Iron Man) could do in the face of an enemy he can't defeat. Martha Jones is at her best here, and regardless of how things did or didn't go down on the Valiant, I'm pretty sure this is just what happened in between.

Funny how being right isn't really cheering him up. )

12:08 pm Déjà Vu All Over Again by victoria_p (musesfool)
Fandom: TEEN WOLF/DC COMICS
Pairing: Gen. Derek Hale, Dick Grayson
Length: 2072
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] musesfool
Author Website: At AO3
Why this must be read:

Because -- sadly -- there's not enough outsider POV fic in Teen Wolf. Seriously, it's sad. It combines !!!Dick Grayson!!! aka !!!Robin!!! aka Nightwing!!! using his nifty detective skills to consult for Sheriff Stilinski and some whip-crack sharp dialog. It's short and fun and punches all the right buttons.

Back at the sheriff's office, he sits down across from Stilinski and says, "What about Derek Hale?"

"It's not him." The speaker is the flaily kid from the lacrosse field. He lunges through the door, awkward in that way where his sense of his body hasn't caught up with the new length of his legs and arms yet.

"Stiles," says the sheriff, warning and affection mingled in the one word.

"You know it's not him, Dad." Stiles comes into the office, and drops his backpack to the floor before flinging himself into the chair next to Dick.

"Maybe he's not killing these kids," Dick says, because he doesn't think he is and there's really no reason to leave that on the table, "but he sure looks like he could be cooking meth out at that burnt out house."

Crossover fanfiction is difficult to write well, so I tend to be pretty choosy about reading them unless someone has already recommended them. Well, it’s my turn to recommend, and I realized that I really couldn’t think of any Avengers crossovers that hadn’t already been recommended here or elsewhere. I freely admit to inputting some search terms on the AO3 and just trawling through looking for anything interesting to read. I’m glad I did, because I found several excellent stories…and a few series I’ll need to keep an eye on. But this one was especially fun:

Fandom: Avengers movie!verse/Person of Interest/NCIS/Criminal Minds/Leverage
Pairing: None (gen, although the author tags this as "implied relationships". I interpreted this as "slash goggles optional")
Length: 3,245
Author on LJ: None that I could find.

Author’s Summary: Five computer geniuses and their asskicking counterparts get locked in a room...

Why this must be read: Because it’s absolutely hilarious. Because the characterizations are spot-on to the point that I could hear each actor’s voice in my mind as I read their dialogue. Because it’s indulgence of the best kind: wanting to see the way these characters would interact with each other.
Because the brain/brawn relationship is a tried and true classic, and the best examples make it new and wonderful all over again.

Why this must be read:
"You want to recruit me for what? You want me to go where?"
Sgt. Brad Colbert has been on a lot of strange missions, but this promises to be his most out there yet: Atlantis

Considering the tone of the two shows, this crossover seems like a strange and unlikely fit, but it manages to work if you look at it as borrowing one characters from one universe to better explore and explain another.

Considering how long this fic is, it may need some explanation. )

09:47 pm Still Crazy After All These Years by LilyK (PG-13)

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS/JUDGE JOHN DEED
Pairing: Bodie/Deed
Length: 8,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sc_fossil
Author Website: On AO3, at the Automated Hatstand for her more recent fics there, and the old Hatstand for her older work.
Why this must be read: Although Judge John Deed isn't my favourite character, LilyK has such a wonderful light touch I found myself grinning as Deed and Bodie meet up again after many years, and under difficult circumstances. The bickering and sniping is wonderfully done, Deed's bitching it totally in character, and Bodie's methods of dealing with him are perfect.

The first time I read this way back when, I found it lingered pleasantly in my mind long afterwards. LilyK handles them both so well, and with such humour, it's impossible not to enjoy, and come back to read it again. I hope you give it a go, and that it makes you smile as much as I still do.
