Why this vid must be viewed: This is the video that made me open to liking fanvids in general, and a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful portrayal of this pairing (a major OTP of mine). Once you've seen it, you won't be able to associate this song with anything but this timey-wimey couple, and even though the song was technically written for the "Twilight" saga (I know, I know), it seems like it could only have been written about them.

OK, I confess: I adore music vids. I love the way a different soundtrack can alter the way we see characters, or highlight the things we know in a different way.  So I am relishing the chance to rec a few for Crackvan.

This first uses a surprising choice of music – a track by Muse which is a fave of mine but not one that would automatically spring to mind for a fan vid. And yet it is perfect. It captures Jim’s paranoia and anxiety of the final episodes wonderfully, as does the superbly chosen clips and their editing. I defy anyone to watch it without feeling a growing sense of dread.

And here’s a thought. The fast pace of this video, the quick edits, the well-chosen close-ups and the disturbing music show for me how TS could have looked under different directorial hands and in maybe a different time. Just as compelling, but darker and stronger somehow.

And best of all, Callisto still manages to deliver the lads as they are on screen, bickering, bitching... them, warts and all.

Callisto's writing is always a pleasure, and this is one of her longer fics, written for the CI5 Box of Tricks Big Bang in 2010. If you haven't already read it, wait until you have a couple of free hours, curl up, and indulge yourself. Enjoy!

Why this must be viewed:

When you think of Fringe it's easy to imagine angsty vids, action vids or even creepy vids because those are the types the show lends itself to, but a fun vid not so much. You've got a completely unexpected song (which is never the less an amusing reference to Fringe having aired in the Friday night death slot) and yet the clip choices derived from the numerous drinking and experimental drugs related parts of the show make it work, alongside some clever editing of the more light hearted moments. This is why this vid is so excellent, it creates a cross universe multi-pairing party scenario that fits together so well, feeling truly upbeat, and just leaves me with a big grin whenever I've watched it.

Because it's a rather epic vid for the rather epic tangled relationships S3 and S4 of Fringe gave us. It's also good to see a shippy video that is giving equal consideration to multiple pairings that would generally be seen as conflicting - in this case Peter & Olivia, Olivia & Lincoln, Alt!Olivia & Peter and  Alt!Olivia & Lincoln - and this does it particularly nicely in a touching manner.

Author’s website:   St. Cloud was written less than ten years ago (I think), but it's now rather difficult to find online.  I was able to locate Lola's works only through the Wayback Machine, here.

Why this must be read: Because this is an S&H classic which, I was amazed to discover, has not been recced here before.  I will state, upfront and unapologetically, that it’s a tear-jerker, and one of the best.  In this story the boys are separated – not by death, but by duty and love, and that, in my mind, makes it all the more heartbreaking.  But Lola is a great writer; even while writing such sadness and pain, she does not leave either her characters or readers without some hope in the end.  It's brilliant.  Even if you’re not usually into stories of this type, give this one a try.

This has a quirky song choice that is interestingly fitting for early S4 Lincoln Lee, who in essence isn't who he used to be with the timeline shift and is at a juxtaposition to the more out going Alt!Lincoln we knew from Season 3. Also this vid is a bit of a rarity as most vids for the Lincoln are shippy instead of solely character based and/or otherwise focused on his alternate self much more, so this is a nice find for those who appreciate amberverse Lincoln.

Why this must be read: Sherlock BBC fandom is awash in post-Reichenbach stories. This is one of the best and most original. I was so happy it was finished in time for me to rec it. It is BAMF Doctor John rebuilding his life after the fall. He pretty much adopts an entire community. The Montague Street Doctor also has a truly beautiful depiction of John and Sherlock’s friendship. I adore all the characters The_Circus created for John’s new world. But John’s old world can never really leave him behind.

Quite frankly, I couldn’t choose between these two vids. I’m intrigued by the way two people can take the same song and the same film, and create two completely different videos.

Why this must be viewed: Majestic klo creates a really interesting and lengthy Marvel comics based intro (listen carefully to the audio), and includes clips from Thor and the Iron Man films as well as the Avengers. I like the way the film clips are matched to the music, the way the vid concentrates more on the characters than on the action, and there are some very professional looking segues between clips. Majestic klo’s interpretation of the heavy gasp portion of the song is particularly amusing.

Why this must be viewed: In contrast to Majestic klo, Huush95 takes the same song but chooses different clips from The Avengers, adds clips from X-Men 3, and creates a completely different vid. There’s an interesting symmetry to some of the scenes: Iron Man raises his hands, then Magneto does the same; Wolverine makes an amazing leap, then the Hulk makes a similar leap; one set of heroes takes a stand, and in the following scene…well, you get the gist.

Hello, everyone! I've enjoyed sharing all these great Naruto fics with you for the past month, and receiving comments and messages from readers and authors alike. I hope every fan has found at least one new fic to read, and maybe even enticed someone who doesn't know Naruto canon to give a fic a try!

Why this must be read: What starts as a short and powerful oneshot expands to a series of vignettes that show us how Itachi as the Godaime could change Konoha and the characters we know. Each fic focuses on a different canon character. Some are funny, some serious, some sad, but all are a good read. My personal favorites are the moving Kakashi chapter, the hilarious Iruka chapter, and the Mikoto chapter for a chilling dose of fandom fix-it. Warning: mention of off-screen rape in fic 7. [set before the series begins, spoilers for volume 43/Shippuuden ep 141 (the truth of the Uchiha massacre)]

Why this must be read:

It's a carefully-paced, gently-moving dreamstate fic, which is erotically tender without becoming graphic.  It leaves a lot to the imagination, and suggests both physical and emotional dimensions of closeness, remembered and brought into the present.  A must for any Obidala shipper.

Why this must be viewed:

A very convincing AU where Merlin and Morgana have known each other since they were kids.  The editing was really well done, I particularly loved how the scenes were placed together and the pacing.  This was a great song to illustrate both the tension between the characters and it also highlighted some of the choices they made within the series within the context of this AU.  Definitely changed my perceptions of Merlin and Morgana and I left the vid with so many feelings about them as a potential pairing.
