Vidder: Sammy Musical Artist: The Smashing Pumpkins - "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" Length: 2:18 Vidder on LJ: unknown Vidder's Website: Duckie's caveWhy this must be viewed:This is essentially an episodic vid for 3x11 "Reciprocity," having an almost trailer-ish feel to it with the relatively short length, but also having a specific focus on Peter that interested me. It delves into the darkness present in Peter's arc in S3, something I've not seen that often explored in fanfic and even less so in vids. The song choice here gives it a brilliantly chilling tone that really helps highlight the meanings of the voiceover clips used. The Darkest Hour

Well, this is my last rec for Fringe this month. I've had a fun time doing it and I hope I illuminated some good fanworks for people to enjoy in this little (and these days somewhat quiet) fandom. I leave you with a lovely gen vid rec as my last offering. Vidder: NeitherHerexNorThere Musical Artist: Andrew Belle - "Sky's Still Blue" Length: 3:13 Vidder on LJ: unknown Vidder's Website: on YouTubeWhy this must be viewed:With lyrics like "Carved out a memory, To follow the pattern" and "You know it's never too late, Oh, if you're hearing this I must have made it through" this song used is very apt for the end of Fringe and the journey the characters have gone through, the trials suffered by most of them and redemption for Walter. This vid is a slightly melancholy yet hopeful look at all the seasons that nicely includes so many touching moments and is a beautiful ensemble piece. Sky's Still Blue

Hello all. I will be driving the Sherlock Holmes van this month (along with another- I’ve got this multi-fandom-tasking thing down to a science now) and I really am excited. Fandom: SHERLOCK HOLMES, HP LOVECRAFT, A STUDY IN EMERALD Pairing: Moriarty/Moran Length: 7129 Author on LJ: Author Website: perryvic , Zaganthi (Caffiends)Why this must be read:It was understood that regardless of what case Lestrade brought us in the meantime, when She sent her envoy, it would be my friend's new focus.
He slept feverishly that night, and I did not sleep at all. There were half thoughts, fringe memories of that flat mirrored lake and the slick of incomprehensible eldritch limbs against my skin. I gave up on sleep, made tea in the kitchen and doctored it with laudanum, serving the both of us. It made for a lazy morning the next day, and my back was quite poorly as I slept on the floor of his room.So I wanted to start off this month by reccing an entire Sherlock Holmes universe a fic for of one of my favourite Sherlock Homes fic/short stories ever- Neil Gaiman’s A Study In Emerald which is Victorian era Homes set in a world where Lovecraft’s ancient Gods have returned to reclaim rule over the world. The short story is insane and brilliant and gives a slithery, creepy twist on the first Sherlock Holmes story, and creates an amazing Victorian period London universe to explore. Plus, the character twists in the story are brilliant. What I am reccing is fic for that short story. (Definitely read it first if you haven’t!) I may be biased because this was one of the many amazing gifts I got for Yuletide last year, but it is fantastically written and works in the universe perfectly. Done in a gorgeous styled first person (imitating canon and Gaiman’s story), the consulting detective’s soldier recounts a horrifying case seeped in the eldritch taint of the Old Ones. Featuring some familiar faces and plenty of tentacles. Pray your gods

So I noticed that Supernatural hadn’t been recced outside of crossovers for over a year. And I’m one of those sad individuals that crawled through the Pit that was season 7 until the show got good again. And I frankly loved the season 8 ending and am eagerly waiting for season 9. But in the meantime, I read fic. A lot of fic. And many of them were rather good. So for people who've given up on the show, the fic might still be fun? Fandom: SUPERNATURAL Pairing: Dean/Cas Length: 17086 Author on LJ: teaandjumpersAuthor Website: Ao3Why this must be read: Moments of domesticity between Dean and Cas (and occasionally Sam) in the Men of Letters bunker. So to start out this month, I wanted something decidedly recent- This one was written before the season 8 finale, and the bits of canon needed to make sense of this fic are pretty much season long plot points so no real spoilers. This fic makes full use of the new bunker and shows the Winchesters and Castiel settling in and making themselves a home. And maybe it's something to imagine for season 9. It’s lovely, it’s sedate, and it’s everything the show would never give us because this is such a calm happy existence for everyone, but that’s what fic is for. Hi everyone! I'll be driving the bandom van this month around. This year, bandom has exploded and we're all partying like it's 2009! Lots of more fics and BBB should be posting stuff soon so even more awesomeness from them. I can't wait to show you my choices and I hope you give them a read as well. Since the announcement, all of us have been a little Fallout Boy crazy, even the ones who aren't hardcore fans. It feels a little bit like coming home when we heard all of the new music they released. So I thought it would be appropriate to kick things off with them, Fallout Boy: Fandom: BANDOM (FOB, Black Cards) Pairing: Pete Wentz and ensemble Length: About 2600 words. Author on LJ: Gorgeousnerd on dreamwidth Author Website: Gorgeous Nerd on AO3 Why this must be read: A little insight into Pete over the various years and the choices he makes, even if they include to get furry once in awhile. Hello! It's June, and I'll be driving the Pros crack van this month, with absolutely no plan whatsoever except to rec Pros stories that absolutely must be read... so just following instructions, really... *g* Hopefully I'll find something you might enjoy - such as this wee gem... Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: B/D Length: short story Author on LJ: heliophile_oxonAuthor Website: on Archive of Our OwnWhy this must be read: Heliophile is such a good writer that I can just imagine walking in at the end of this ep - the action is pretty much finished, the villainy nipped in the bud, and our heroes are finishing up for the day. It's a great way to start a B/D story, because we end up with exactly what we want - finding out what the lads get up to next, off-screen. The problem is that this time, Doyle's been undercover, and George Cowley's finding him unusually chatty... Excerpt: “…not parrot food. They don’t eat it, ‘s jus’ for sharpenin’ their beaks on, cuttlefish bone… Do cuttlefishes have bones? Not a bone. Dunno. Look, in the cage, if you can get it out, not me, ‘m not goin’ anywhere near that damn bird, bloody great harpy… Sorry sir, findin’ it a bit hard to concentrate. Had to blend in, y’know, ‘m all about the blendin’ in, fine, no problem, but Kirstin baked a cake today an’ I’ve had the tea as well an’ I dint know she’d put dope in the cake … as well as the tea … an’ I had to blend in, take a few hits, pass a join’ aroun’, don’ wan’ blow me cover... Fandom: HETALIA Pairing: one sided Germany/Austria (Ludwig/Roderich) Length: 12,332 Author on LJ:Author Website: http://www.fanfiction.net/u/3377733/VyscariaWhy this must be read:Author's Summary: Roderich hears the German tanks rolling in, and knows that nothing will be the same again. Like a crescendo of inevitable events, the Second World War unfolds before him. The Third Reich collapses, and millions die in the holocaust. Austria has blood on his hands, and no one is left to save him. Slash Germany/Austria, heavy on history and music. It amazes me how an anime with 5 minute long episodes that pokes fun at racial stereotypes and world history (mostly European) can produce such poignant and beautiful stories such as this. This is the story of the country of Austria, his history is filled with war, conquest and defeat. But the MAN, Roderich, is a musician who loves his country. Watching the despair of this immortal being as he watches how World War 2 changes his country and people is hard to read. The prose is beautiful (read like music). There is great care and love for the characters. Even the portrayal of Ludwig (the country of Germany) is written with empathy. The emotion is raw and even though I have read it through three times, each and every single time I am left breathless. I am not sure if this is the best choice to start out my month of recommending Hetalia fics, but for some reason I believe that even if you do not know the anime, or the characters really, you will still FEEL something for their experience.
