09:02 pm To Strive, To Seek, To Find by Luzula (Mature)
Hi, Sea here, driving for July!  There's pretty much nothing I don't like about this show, so hopefully I'll manage to rec something for everyone over the course of the month.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, Ray Vecchio/Stella Kowalski
Length: 22,000 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] luzula
Author Website: on the AO3
Why this must be read: Stories about asexual characters are pretty thin on the ground, especially long ones.  This one handles Fraser's asexuality sensitively and realistically, and does a great job building the relationship between him and RayK.  In addition to the relationship plot, it's also got a great, carefully crafted case plot and strong supporting characters.  RayK's budding partnership with Ray Vecchio and his coming to terms with being friends with Stella are important elements of the story, and just as carefully crafted as the main plots.

09:05 pm When a Man Loves a PASIV by eleveninches (PG-13)
So I signed up for this fandom when I realized that a) there’s still pretty awesome fic being written, and b) there’s so much good fic out there that it's a pleasent way to spend forever working through it all. The recs already on this comm barely scratch the surface of good reads out there and I wanted to add to that list if I could.

Fandom: INCEPTION
Pairing: Arthur/Eames
Length: 12792
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] eleveninches
Author Website: Ao3
Why this must be read:
"Everyone knows Eames was trying to accomplish inception for years. Are you expecting me to believe you tried it once and pulled it off?"

Comedic, in the realm of canon, takes the idea of ‘Dom Cobb was incompetent”, and tells the fic from his point of view. Fandom, or at least the parts of it I’m familiar with, has seem to come to the consensus that Dom Cobb really didn’t do much in the film except screw everything up at nearly every turn. In this fic, Cobb doesn’t seem to realize that and after sitting at home with his kids for a while, wants to get back in the game. A number of people aren’t too happy about that including most of his former inception teammates. With good reason.

Told from the perspective of a resoundingly clueless POV (Cobb), the comedy oozes through the tone and the perspective and the sheer clueless in regards to viewing the reactions to everyone around him.

Continuing on the work of the reccers before me, I bring Avengers love and fic. I have a couple character and pairing biases (actually, it’s more like I love every character but a couple of them) so I’ve tried to space out my picks to look like there’s an attempt at variety.

Fandom: AVENGERS
Pairing: Tony/Loki
Length: 95021
Author on LJ:
Author Website: Ao3
Why this must be read:
It started with a message, a late-night visit, and a God of Mischief in Tony's bed. A story of trust, trickery, unwilling aid and inevitable attraction.

Having followed this fic for over a year, I was ecstatic when it finally got completed. Plus it was in time for me to rec it. :) Even back when it was WIP, this fic was on practically every Tony/Loki rec list and for good reason.

Loki comes to warn Tony about a plot against Thor. Everything spirals into madness. Loki is a force of nature, refusing to be defanged and spinning lies and con at every turn. Tony Stark is brilliant, the smartest man in the room (hopefully), and plays every angle he can, maybe even the ones he can't see.
This fic has the version of Loki I always look for in fic- the unredeemed trickster, an agent of chaos who revels in his own status. (The characterization I love best from mythology). Tony is one to make questionable decisions all the time, but he’s pretty smart about it, the Avengers make a great team, Rhodey shows up halfway through to be a complete badass, and S.H.I.E.L.D. probably shouldn't be a force you mess with (unless you’re brilliant and crazy).
