02:07 pm Murder Ward by Dana Austin Marsh (slash)
I'm Dawnebeth, back behind the wheel of the red and white painted Torino/crackvan. I'm looking for old and new stories that will illustrate my love of Starsky and Hutch.

Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 49,679 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://www.starskyhutcharchive.net/viewuser.php?uid=249

Why this must be read: I read this originally when it was in a zine, so I was really excited that is is now online. This is an AU version of the episode Murder Ward. Starsky is still a cop but partnered with a man who has been injured, so he wasn't able to go undercover with Starsky to Cabrillo State. Starsky's on his own as a suicidal patient, and has to rely and trust the sympathetic orderly Ken Hutchinson for his safety. I love how Dana Austin Marsh weaves Starsky's history in (the incident with Prudholm) yet slightly alters the events because now Hutch isn't a cop. They still have that instant connection, but aren't quite sure how to trust one another. DAM's attention to detail is always a joy, and this is a long, satisfying read.

02:25 pm All the Hollows Deep by branwyn (Mature)
Fandom: CABIN PRESSURE
Pairing: Gen
Length: 4,916
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] bnharrison
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: It's pretty much inevitable in any fandom (but especially one as small as Cabin Pressure) that you'll find one author who is your favourite, and branwyn is mine. I think it's because zhe writes such excellent character voices, which is so important in AU fic. 'All the Hollows Deep' was written for a prompt asking for Martin as a hunter (a bit like the Winchesters), but this isn't a crossover. It's a short but well-crafted supernatural AU with some rather terrifying moments. It begins when Martin notices something not quite right about Arthur...

Hi, I'm Cloudtrader, and I'll be recommending Star Trek stories here this month. I'm a second generation Trekkie, and TNG is my first love. I'm not a huge fan of AOS, but I don't hate it. I ship just about anything well written, but I do have my favorites. I am a HUGE fan of the Star Trek novels. I hope that you enjoy my recs this month!

Fandom: STAR TREK: ALTERNATE ORIGINAL SERIES
Pairing: Leonard McCoy/Spock
Length: 16,710 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] awarrington
Author Website: Fic Masterlist
Why this must be read:
I enjoyed the characterization in this story particularly, along with the slow and not frictionless process of McCoy and Spock getting to know one another. Both characters make mistakes and hurt each other, but they also apologize and make up for it.

Also, there's hot sex in a cave.

03:36 pm The Seduction of Dr. John Watson by XistentialAngst (Mature)
Hi, I'm Cloudtrader and I'll be posting Sherlock recs here this month. Hope you enjoy them!

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Length: 19,264 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: XA's blog on Tumblr
Why this must be read:
This is a superbly written story, with some very interesting characterization. From the author's summary, it sounds like it should be cracky and humorous, and while it is funny in places, XA manages to write the premise extremely well. I adored the scenes with Irene, too.

Author's Summary: John finally convinces Sherlock that he needs sex and that if he keeps sabotaging his love life with women, it'll be a deal-breaker. Sherlock goes through his deductive process and decides that he himself will have to provide John with sex if he's to keep John from marrying and moving out. Unfortunately, Sherlock is an inexperienced seducer and John is totally straight. Sherlock goes to Irene for advice on seduction.

08:50 pm like boys do by Luc Court
Fandom: SMALL FANDOMS - No Rest for the Wicked (Webcomic)

Pairing: Gen (November/Red, November/Perrault if you want to bring goggles)

Length: 1,900

Author: Luc Court

Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] rabbitprint

No Rest for the Wicked is an older web comic, and the creator is slow about releasing updates, but the story and art are still some of my favorites and fanfic fills in that aching gap while I wait for updates. If you like ABC's Once Upon a Time or the graphic novel Fables, this is in the same line: fairytale stories mushed together to tell a new story. This is actually my favorite spin.

This story by Luc Court has just the right blend of fairytale, character and little bit of creepy in it. Red is a complex character and hard to use as the POV, but Luc Court pulls off a fic from her perspective that feels like it would be cannon in the webcomic's universe.
