Fandom: SMALL FANDOMS - Sunshine by Robin McKinleyPairing: Gen Length: 2,700 Author: Morbane Sunshine is a vampire novel that was written before the Twilight craze began, and it was written by Robin McKinley, who knows how to write. The book is really hard to describe, although it is set in a dystopic world where life had continued on and the monsters are really scary and evil. Morbane's done several fics for this series which I've enjoy, but One of Many Circles is my favorite because it has fabulous world building. The story reads like it's part of a sequel for the novel. Hello, I’m Ann, and I’ll be your driver for the Professionals for the next month. I feel privileged and honoured to be taking a turn at driving. I’m a long-term Pros fans, being hooked right from the 70s, but I only discovered fanfic relatively recently (poor, sheltered little life…*weeps for the lost years*) so there is much in the archives of magnificent Pros writing that I have yet to discover. This also probably means that what I rec, you will all have seen before. I will console myself with the idea that at least the fic will then join the hallowed group of Crack Van recommendations! I’m going to start with a story that was one of the first I discovered, and I never cease to extol its virtues – so much so that I think the author thinks I’m stalking her… Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Ray Doyle; WAP Bodie Length: about 44,000 words Author on LJ: Jaicen5 Author Website: http://jaicen5.livejournal.com/ Why this must be read: Jaicen’s Easy Prey has all the hallmarks of that author’s skill at plot, characterisation, dialogue, action, banter – you name it, it’s there. And so such more. Doyle is targeted for revenge by our favourite returning baddy, John Coogan. The set-up is horribly believable, the tension palpable, and Doyle is as good as lost. But of course, Bodie is having none of *that*. What follows is a nail-biting pursuit as the lads go on the run, with only Bodie’s shadowy past to help them. And there is an added complication in the state of Doyle’s health – I won’t spoil the plot – go read! The hurt/comfort element in this story is delightfully written. Doyle suffers beautifully (oh dear, how wrong that sounds!). The depth of the partnership and the dependency between the two of them is subtly shown. But what l love most of all is how we see Bodie coping. Here is a man who will do everything in his power to keep his partner safe. Though even that in the end isn’t enough, and an inevitable slip brings us to a finale that will have you on the edge of your seats. http://jaicen5.livejournal.com/tag/easy%20prey This links to the 5 chapters

Hey, all, I'm doodlesinsand, aka Mission, and I'll be driving the due South van this month! Like some of you, I'm sure, I vaguely knew due South as a child and have since returned to it and fallen in love with it all over again. I've been reading fic for quite awhile but only recently became anything you would call "active" in the dS fandom (mainly on tumblr). I've got some pretty big shoes to fill and I'll try to get a good mix of older and newer fic, but if you have any friendly advice feel free to drop me a message. Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski Length: 17,266 words Author Website: http://www.squidge.org/dsa/cgi-bin/search.cgi?Author=J%20Hardin&SortBy=3&SortOrder=1&NumToList=0Why this must be read: This fic takes the magical realism of due South and runs with it, carefully twisting it into actual fantasy without ever abandoning the Chicago that due South is set in. It fits in wonderfully with the mythology of the show, dialing the fairytale elements of due South up to eleven and yet still somehow staying very true to the characters as they are. I wouldn't technically call this a crossover, but in some ways it feels as though it is one, because the OCs are so well crafted and their backstories are so well thought-out. KellieM has informed me that this is, in fact, a crossover. Sorry for the confusion! O'Leary's Hotel

Hi, I'm singingsomethin and I'll be your CrackVan comics driver for September. I've really enjoyed reading the fics recced on this community, so thank you for the chance to contribute. I'm going to mostly rec X-men fics, but I'm going to try to do a weekly rec for fics set in some webcomics too, if that's ok. Fandom: COMICS - X-Men Pairing: Incidental Jean/Scott, Rogue/Iceman, Shadowcat/Colossus Length: ~14,000 words Author on LJ: Not that I know of Author website: FanFiction.netAuthor's summary: A college friend of Scott's shows up at the mansion, and all hell breaks loose. Why this must be read:This is an old one, but it's one of my favorites. I love how Troll Princess manages to paint the characters in a very fond light while simultaneously poking fun at them. It's short, funny, gen, crack-fic, with a fun OC. Plus it contains some elaborate smack-talk that I'd like to work into casual conversation more often. Excerpt... Cabin Pressure Overview Hi there! I'm lei_che_sogna, or Susie for short, and I'm going to be reccing BBC Radio Four's Cabin Pressure this month! I'm really excited to share some of my favourite fics for what has to be the best radio programme ever. Brilliant! Back in 2011, ktbean did a really excellent Fandom Overview which you can read here, but since then there's been another series of the programme. To get you caught up, here are the latest developments: ( Spoilers for Series Four below the cut! )If you haven't listened to Cabin Pressure before, you should give it a try! Even if you don't like radio programmes or podcasts much, it's still worth a listen. You can buy it from Amazon, Audiogo, Audible, and lots of other places that begin with a letter other than 'A'.
