10:13 am Fandom Overview: Sailor Moon
Hello,

I'm Lilly and this month I'll drive the anime/manga van. English isn't my mother tongue but I hope it isn't too bad. :)

So let's start the van and hopefully I can persuade you to give my favorite manga/anime a chance.

Fandom Overview for "Sailor Moon"

In the name of the moon I will punish you!

This is one of the catchphrases of one of the most popular animes/mangas in the world. In the year 1991 Kodansha published the first chapter of a shojo manga called 'Sailor Moon' written by Naoko Takeuchi. This was not only the start of an overwhelming franchise but also the beginning of the Magical Girl boom.

18 manga volumes (12 in the reprint), an anime with 200 episodes (and soon there will be a new one!), a live-action TV series with 49 episodes and two specials, 29 musicals, more than 20 videogames and many merchandise articles later the story of Sailor Moon and her friends still has a huge fan base.

But what is so special about it?

Maybe this (really long) overview will help to answer this question.

Something sweet and easy for the start of our journey. UsaMamo is my OTP so you will see more of them this month. :)

Fandom: Sailor Moon
Pairing: Mamoru Chiba/Usagi Tsukino
Length: ~ 1.300 words
Author on LJ: -
Author Website: FF.net
Why this must be read:
Outsider-POV is one of my biggest weaknesses. In this oneshot we see Usagis and Mamorus relationship through the eyes of Mamorus' colleague. He asks the same question like so many people before. How can Mamoru and Usagi love each other if they're so different? The answer is simple and easy and the fic is the same. It is a fluffy story to forget the drama of the RL.

Perspective (FF.net)
--> Future fic. Years have passed, how would others view Usagi and Mamoru's relationship?

Pairing: Ray Doyle/WAP Bodie
Length: 45K

Why this must be read:

Lots of stories have been written about, or have referenced, Bodie’s youth, and what made him the man he is. This is one that concentrates on the Liverpool angle, but has the neat trick of showing it through Doyle’s eyes in his unexpected and unwelcome meeting with Bodie’s father. It’s an interesting and affecting tale, with excellent, spot-on dialogue – the author has even beautifully captured Cowley’s propensity for somewhat clunky metaphors. But as well as giving us so many great clues as to Bodie’s character, both past and present, the story can also be seen as a beautifully crafted slice of life, albeit seen through two different pairs of eyes, and the spare and precise storytelling allows us to see the characters’ reactions to events in ways that tell us so much about their relationship.

Fandom: SHERLOCK
Pairing: none (possibly barely-implied John Watson/Sherlock Holmes)
Length: 13,627 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] merripestin
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
Because sometimes, you just want to read some well-written casefic that also includes hilariously annoying character interactions between Sally and Sherlock from Lestrade's point-of-view, amiright? I love the insight Lestrade have into John and Sherlock's relationship and the depth of understanding between him and Sally. The original character, Violet Smith, and her case are also full fleshed-out and intersting.

Lestrade, Donovan, Watson, and Holmes are stuck in a car together driving in circles around London for a case. Personalities will clash, of course, and words will be uttered that may change perceptions for good.

Fandom: STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION
Pairing: Data/Geordi La Forge
Length: 3,875 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] winged_mammal
Author Website: on AO3
Why this must be read:
Of course Data has a sexuality once he has the emotion chip! This is a very interesting take on the reaction of some of the crew of the Enterprise when they find out he's gay. Some of them don't deal with it well, and Data's emotions are dealt with extremely well. I love love love Data and Troi's interactions when he goes to her for a counseling session to deal with his anger, confusion, sadness, and fear (which feelings he breaks down into precise percentages, PERFECT).

This is just a lovely gem of a story that touches on big issues from both the show and our modern reality. Good stuff!
