11:45 am Paul said to Peter, you got to rock yourself a little harder by LiviaPenn (Not Rated)
Fandom: Avengers Movieverse
Pairing: Tony Stark/James Rhodes
Length: 4698 words

Why this must be read:
Very true to movie canon Tony/Rhodey, this angsty gem made my heart hurt like a mofo. It's the best Rhodey characterization I've read, and I felt for both of them equally in this.

12:28 pm This Tree With All Its Broken Branches by morganoconner (Teen, PG-13)
Fandom: TEEN WOLF (TV) / THE AVENGERS (movieverse)
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski (pre-slash), Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Length: ~ 23698 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] morganoconner
Author Website: writing on AO3; Shadow Legacy
Why this must be read: I admire writers who can take two quite different canons, and blend them together in a way that makes perfect sense, the kind of sense that makes you go, "oh, of course, it's like that!" Canon-compliant with the Avengers and TW (to S2), Clint Barton is the Hale that got away. Convinced he contributed to the fire that killed the family, and that Laura and Derek were better off without him, Clint changed his name and went to work for SHIELD. Like Derek, Clint's got that tough guy/lone wolf thing working for him, and more than enough guilt to go around. I don't want to reveal too much of the story because it unfolds in a way that really makes you believe Clinton (Barton) Hale is Derek's older brother. There's plot, emotional turbulence, and sweet moments in between, all of it written in Morgan's easy-flowing style that demonstrates she gets these characters, all of them - 'cause even the Avengers make an appearance (much to fanboy Stiles' delight.)

'You're supposed to be dead,' Derek growls, not backing down despite Clint's show of submission.' )

02:26 pm Keep Calm And Pour the Tea by gardnerhill (rated: PG13)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes & Joan Watson
Length: 1,821
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] gardnerhill
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: One of my favorite parts in Elementary is when Sherlock tells Joan that his job has its costs and I love this fic because it shows that yes it does have it's costs. Set after "The Deductionist" this fic explores what it must have been like for Joan to walk into an operating room, her former domain, and see what had been done. Another thing I love about this fic is that the author really understands the heart of the show which is not only Sherlock and Joan's relationship but also their willingness to talk to each other but still keep a few things back. Overall this is a great little snapshot that I could see happening in their kitchen from the tea to them watching Clyde with his lettuce.

04:57 pm Tryst, by Ni-chan (R)
Fandom: Sailor Moon
Pairing: Mamoru Chiba/Usagi Tsukino, minor Senshis/Shitennous with focus on Kunzite/Venus
Length: ~ 62.000 words
Author on LJ: -
Author Website: FF.net
Why this must be read:
In the SM fandom you will find mostly four types of fic. Total AUs, fics which play in the future time line of SM (especially popular for stories with Chibiusa), the 'normal' timeline in Tokyo and pre-canon stories in the Silver Millennium. Personally I have a huge weakness for the last one. How did Serenity and Endymion meet? How did they fall in love? Which problems tried to destroy their love apart from Beryl? These and similar questions are important for this last genre and I must admit many fics give us the same answers.

Still I love these stories because sometimes you're lucky and find a story with a new twist. I thought a long time about my choice for this trope. There are many amazing stories but my favorites are written by authors I already recced or will rec. So I decided to rec a story which isn't so perfect and not so popular.

Instead of writing a canon-based story for the SilMil, the author only uses basic canon information and puts them into a new world with many new and old characters. The romance between Serenity and Endymion is wonderful because it isn't the popular love at first sight. No, similar to the canon love between Mamoru and Usagi they both need more time to accept the other one. Also, we finally see a Serenity which isn't a sweet and innocent little girl.

I admit there are some negative points. The end is a little bit rushed, the author seems to forget Serenity's mother and I'm not really happy with the choice of the bad guy but in the end, I can ignore this. This description of Serenity and Endymion's love story deserves a rec. Also, the author thinks about rewriting the story so maybe there will be a rewrite without these negative points.

Tryst (FF.net)
--> When an overzealous suitor threatens Serenity's safety, her father has no choice but to send her to the one place no one would ever think to look: Earth. But no one expects what happens when she meets Endymion or the reprecussions of it all.

06:34 pm A Guide to Handling the Unhandleable Tony Stark by nightrider101 (Teen and Up)
Fandom: Avengers Movieverse
Pairing: James Rhodes/Tony Stark
Length: 3635 words
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Author Page on AO3
Why this must be read:
As a general rule, Alpha/Beta/Omega Dynamics are not my thing, but this story handles the power dynamics matter-of-factly rather than fetishistically (not that I'm down on fetish, but this one isn't mine), and that works. Consensual, sane, and happy is happy is how it goes here--I especially like the lack of angst over Alpha/Beta/Omega biological imperatives.
