10:16 am until we become something new by Spikedluv (Explicit, NC-17)
Fandom: TEEN WOLF (TV)
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski; minor pairings implied (Scott/Isaac, Peter/Chris Argent)
Length: ~ 73,500 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv
Author Website: writing on AO3; on Dreamwidth
Why this must be read: I'm not sure where it started, but the inclination to make Stiles a were-beast, but not of the wolf variety, is strong in this fandom, and for some reason, more often than not, Stiles becomes a were-fox. This is one of the animal transformation stories that I absolutely adore. It seems to capture both the frustration that comes with such a drastic change in one's life, and the feeling of freedom and delight at suddenly having access to new senses and experiences. Stiles has to learn to control his shifts and new instincts, while the pack is trying to sort out the intention behind the bite. It's not an accident Stiles is bitten, and the underlying plot to take Stiles away from the pack is what really drives the first part of the story. Even after that particular plot is resolved, the story continues exploring the pack's lives, as well as Stiles and Derek's growing closeness. Throughout, Derek as Alpha is the one Stiles turns to for protection, understanding, comfort, and then he wants more.

The relationship build in this is so slow as to be almost glacial, but it's beautifully done. Both Stiles and Derek are so careful with one another, and every step forward in the relationship feels exquisitely earned. It's intense and romantic. If you need something to get caught up in for hours, you won't be disappointed with this story.

'Oh my god,' Stiles said. 'Oh my god.' He’d been bitten by a werefox. 'I’ve been bitten by a werefox.' )

05:27 pm your Axe to my throat, my Knife to yours, by Thorinsmut - (Explicit)
Fandom: THE HOBBIT (movieverse)
Pairing: Nori/Dwalin
Length: 70,413 words
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Thorinsmut on AO3
Why this must be read:

"Nori is an excellent thief with a complicated family, Dwalin is an excellent guardsman with complicated feelings about a certain thief, a lot of UST and some smut happens, and then they both join a suicide quest to reclaim a mountain from a dragon and things get even more complicated and smutty.
Someday, they might actually be forced to come to terms with the fact that they don't hate each other. "

Follows the movie canon (as far as we know it) during and after the quest to retake Erebor

aka: the one with the knots

Contains violence, dubious consent, canon character death

06:52 pm Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down by carmenamatorium (Teen and Up)
Fandom: Avengers Movieverse
Pairing: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Length: 14,477 words

Why this must be read:
I picked this story, with a favorite pairing, in honor of the upcoming premiere of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. tomorrow(!!). This is a spin on the "dosed with a truth drug/spell/etc." plot. In this story, Agent Coulson (along with many other agents, gets exposed to an experimental substance that removes emotional inhibitions. He goes to Clint for a safe refuge, and the (non-melodramatically handled) hurt/comfort abounds, for those who like that. I don't usually, and this was just right.

10:11 pm Of Sunshine and Cemetaries by Slantedlight (Mature)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: Ray Doyle/WAP Bodie
Length: 61K
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] slantedlight
Author’s Website: http://byslantedlight.livejournal.com/

Why this must be read:

There is a heavy quiet about this story; quiet but not calm. It’s like you can feel a storm brewing, even though the lads’ French holiday seems to be blessed with sun and heat. Like my last rec, this is about each of them seeking reassurance in the other, but here Doyle’s jealousy comes to the fore. And woven into it all, we have an intriguing back-story for Bodie, and echoes of the long-dead, which collide pleasingly with the present to conclude the story. A dreamy, brooding, reflective treat
