04:10 am Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered by: (Rated: PG)
Fandom: ELEMENTARY
Pairing: GEN Sherlock Holmes & Joan Watson
Length: About 3K
Author on LJ: I'm not sure
Author Website: AO3
Why this must be read: Normally I hate first person stories but this one is just so artistically done that I couldn't help but fall in love. Set after Sherlock finds out that Joan is no longer employed by his father but before he makes her his offer Make It Easy, Say I Never Mattered shows how Sherlock figured out just why Joan was staying. I love the Sherlock voice in this because it captures both his need for Joan, as a friend, and his want to not need anyone. The other thing that I love about this is the undercurrent of what Joan is feeling. You can tell from the language that something is up with Joan but the author lets people come to their own conclusions on that instead of underestimating us and flat out saying it.

The week that he would later refer to as "the week from hell," and that she would later refer to as "the week Sherlock was suspiciously well-behaved and looked constipated when he thought she wasn't looking" started like this:

01:41 pm Like a Prayer by Asidian (Teen and Up)
Fandom: Avengers Movieverse
Pairing: Loki Laufeyson/Tony Stark (sort-of maybe) friendship
Length: 14,260 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] asidian
Author Website: Author Page on AO3/Manga published by Tokyopop: Mark of the Succubus
Why this must be read:
This gen story is centered on Tony and Loki and the snark-filled path to their mutual, albeit tentative, respect for one another. It's complete, although I'd love to read more in this 'verse.

Fandom: STAR WARS
Pairing: Anakin/Obi-Wan
Length: 22278 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] aureawolf
Author Website: FFN Profile
Why this must be read:

It's a personal favorite, and the posting guidelines permit, that's why. But, on to particulars: it captures 'Star Wars-iness' to me. It's got heartwrenching moments, funny moments and relationship moments. Timeskipping begins right away, so be prepared to move throughout all 6 films, per the author's summary. It's a blithe rec.

08:11 pm Destination Unknown by Azzy (slash)
Fandom: STARSKY & HUTCH
Pairing: Starsky/Hutch
Length: 786
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: http://archiveofourown.org/users/Azzy/pseuds/Azzy
Why this must be read: One of the fun things about driving the van is discovering new authors I have never read or heard of. Azzy seems to have only three S&H fic, but from reading this one, I plan to read the others, too. This is a deceptively simple story with a familiar theme: Post Sweet Revenge and the guys are tired. Starsky won't be able to work as a cop any more, and what does Hutch feel about their future? Of course, they will face the unknown shoulder to shoulder, together, as a team.

11:19 pm It's 3 am... Do You Know Where *Your* Guide Is? by Maaaaa (PG)
Fandom: THE SENTINEL
Pairing: none
Length: ~600 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] ma_aaaa
Author Website: Maaaaa's fic on Artifact Storage Room 3
Why this must be read:

I really enjoy stories that have an outsider's view of Jim and Blair and their relationship, whether it's slash or gen. Maaaaa's unnamed original male criminal makes the mistake of thinking Jim's pickup an easy target, and pays for it. In the process, he gives us a great look at Jim and Blair, despite the fact that Jim's not even in the story! In fact, this is a sort of a meta-outsider's view, because it's the criminal's view of Jim based on what Blair is telling him about Jim. Plus, it's a perfect example of how Blair's mouth is his first and best line of defense when it comes to being a trouble magnet.

Fandom: DUE SOUTH
Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski
Length: 22,932 words

Why this must be read: F/K dystopian sci fi AU shouldn't work, but it really, really, does.
