Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio Length: 29,552 words Author on lj: catwalksaloneAuthor Website: http://www.theflawintheplan.co.uk/Why this must be read: If you are one of the people who thinks Ray/Ray fic often falls down on its characterisation of one or both of the Rays, don't worry, I was once right there with you. This fic is the fic that made me realise just how wonderful V/K can be, when done right: both Rays are following their own believable arcs, as gloriously in-character as they are in love. Adorable curtain/kid fic with a well-thought-out back story and interesting interplay between the past and the present, I couldn't recommend this highly enough. Not in Front of the Kid

Fandom: STAR WARS Characters: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Siri Tachi, Yoda, OCs Length: 72k words Author on LJ: fernwithyAuthor Website: FFN ProfileWhy this must be read:Family Portrait is one of the more thought-through, detailed examples of worldbuilding that I can think of. Obi-Wan must rely on fourteen year-old Anakin for advice in how to resemble a family for an intricate undercover mission on a planet openly hostile to Jedi. Along with EU's Jude Watson character, Jedi Knight Siri Tachi, the trio delve into a mystery about a fellow Jedi's involvement with his birth family. It's a nice long, plotty read. There is an excellent cover for this story here. fernwithy also posts at The ForceDOTnet, but the site makes me nervous with its story truncation issues that are not fixed after one year. Fandom: ELEMENTARY Pairing: Sherlock Holmes & Joan Watson Length: Under 1K Author on LJ: Unknown Author Website: AO3Why this must be read: You know those fics that make you think the writers are writing fic? This is one of them. It is short and sweet but feels like it could have come from canon. I love the idea that sometimes Sherlock needs to sleep next to someone and Joan's easy acceptance and 'no funny business' comments are perfect. This is one of my go to fics for when I am having a bad day because it is that fluffy and perfect. Plus the authors use of the 'Platonic soulmates' tag makes me squeal with joy every time I see it. In the QuietAlso did I miss the Fanvid rec formatting post? I was looking out for it but I never saw one.

Fandom: SHERLOCK Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Length: 57,711 words Author on LJ: flawedamythystAuthor Website: on AO3, Fic ListWhy this must be read:OK, first off, you should know that this story is technically a fusion with another fandom (I actually didn't know this, because I tend to skip author's notes and it wasn't noted in the heading and I didn't know the other fandom), but it REALLY doesn't matter because this story is BRILLIANT. You really, truly don't need to know a thing about the other fandom to read this story (and if you DO know the other fandom, I'm sure this story will fill you with glee as you come to the realization of it). Sherlock Holmes is a man of secrets, including a seemingly abiding hatred of holidays. He has his reasons. This story is fantastically plotted with cunning characterizations and absolutely superb writing. You will not regret reading this story and it's sequels, I guarantee. This story deserves all the kudos! (I also highly recommend reading flawedamythyst's other stories.) Skeletons by flawedamythyst

Fandom: STAR TREK: ALTERNATE ORIGINAL SERIES Pairing: Jim Kirk/Spock Length: 57,642 words Author on LJ: waldorphAuthor Website: on AO3Why this must be read:This is an alternate universe story (of an canon alternate universe, natch!) where Spock's family moves to Earth early in his life and he makes friends with one James T. Kirk, even though Sarek and Amanda think the other boy is Trouble. Spock is steadfast with his friendship, though, and that makes for a wonderful story, both angsty and fun in turns. The side characters (Amanda, Sybok, Pike, T'Pring, Stonn) really help make this story, because the author fleshes them out and gives them all real, believable motivations and interests. This is a fantastic combination of world-building and canon reference. Author's Summary: Spock met Jim when he was 7 and Jim was 6. It has since been generally agreed that this was a mistake (or: the one where they grow up together and things are simultaneously better and worse for it). Magpie by waldorph

Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS Pairing: Ray Doyle/WAP Bodie Length: 10K Author on LJ: laceymcbain Author website: www.thecircuitarchive.com Also, author has work on AO3 http://archiveofourown.org/users/laceymcbain/pseuds/laceymcbain Why this must be read: My final rec this month, and the second in my chosen pair of haunting, contemplative stories, where the writer’s skill is such that so very much is conveyed about the partnership with only the bare minimum of words and phrases. One Can Only See is set during DIAG, in fact at the point where Doyle is making his “decision”. He is still aware of the medical things going on around him, but they’re irrelevant – Doyle’s weighing up his life and making up his mind. And what tips the scale is, of course, Bodie; stubborn, taciturn, resolute, shuttered Bodie. And Doyle knows he can’t leave because… well, you’ll see why! It’s been fun writing about some favourite stories here this month, even if they weren’t new to most of you! ;) Thanks for the opportunity. I’m now off to spruce up the van, removing those old coffee cups and the ratty copies of the Racing Times, ready to hand it on to the next driver, and looking forward to more stories soon! http://www.thecircuitarchive.com/tca/archive/14/onecan.html

My last rec for this month! I hoped you had fun with my recs. I tried to find a good combination of not so popular stories and fandom favorites. Hopefully, I reached my goal. Maybe I will take a second drive after the end of the second anime and show you some more hidden jewels. Maybe I can also rec some more f/f stories, if you want. But for now, have fun with my last recommendation. Fandom: Sailor Moon Pairing: Mamoru Chiba/Usagi Tsukino Length: 2.700 words Author on LJ: - Author Website: FF.net, Destiny's GatewayWhy this must be read:I was pretty unsure if I should rec this story. The characters (especially Usagi) are pretty ooc in this story but for some reason, I really love the fic. Many people portray Mamoru in AUs as a darker character, which is especially inspired by the manga. Mob!AUs or similar are popular in the UsaMamo part of the fandom and I admit, I love the idea. This story carry this trope to the extremes and it evens happens in a good way. I love how you can see the love between Usagi and Mamoru even in such a different AU. Never talks to Strangers--> Usagi meets a handsome guy in the carpark of the Juuban Mall and offers to drive him to his car, which he seems to have misplaced. She obviously never heard the saying about talking to strangers...

Fandom: CABIN PRESSUREPairing: Martin Crieff/Theresa of Liechtenstein Length: 1,406 Author on LJ: bnharrisonAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:For my last two recs, I'm looking at the future of the programme. In Series Four the character of Princess Theresa of Liechtenstein was introduced, and became (among other things) a canonical love interest for Martin. Since it's het and a new ship, there isn't a massive amount of fic about the couple yet, but this fic is absolutely one of the best. It's only natural that fanfic authors take it upon themselves to resolve the painful cliffhanger at the end of the series, and branwyn comes up with an answer that's eminently satisfying, along with some really sweet dialogue. Fandom: CABIN PRESSUREPairing: Martin Crieff/Theresa of Liechtenstein Length: 3,500 Author on LJ: chess_kaAuthor Website: AO3Why this must be read:Thank you for flying the friendly skies with me this month! My last rec is a fic about the dates Theresa and Martin go on, beginning with Duxford and ending with somewhere a little less prosaic. I love this fic because you can see how the two of them will work as a couple, and why they're perfect for each other. And there's a cameo from some real-life royalty as well!
