Why this must be read: This is a truly amazing AU. Those gorgeous hands of Hutch’s are so much more than just pretty, they are special. He has powers that benefit others. Makes them feel good, heals their mind as well as their body. But there are people who abuse this power to their own ends. The story is set pre and post series, and imo could easily explain some things in the actual series. I won’t elaborate on that, read it and see what you think.

Why this must be read: Since some amazing Derek/Stiles fics have already been recced here, when picking my own to share with you I'm trying to go a little outside of the box. In this case, I'm reccing a story that's not so much about Derek and Stiles as it is about the pack.

This is another fic set post-S2 and, therefore, AU to S3 in the best ways. If you weren't in the fandom back then, you missed out on a very hopeful time in fic during which Boyd and Erica were present and happy, the pack was a family, and nobody had been cursed with an eternal heart of darkness (except maybe Derek). This one is a perfect example of the warm-and-fuzzy potential we all took for granted pre-S3. It also incorporates one of my favorite canon aspects of Stiles - that he is part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures.

Though the premise might feel like a stretch - that Stiles gets the whole pack hooked on World of Warcraft - it works. The characterization is delightful, the dialogue is funny, and it's one of my favorite pack-learns-to-work-together-and-love-each-other fics ever written. It helps that the ensemble is always at the forefront of this fic and, ultimately, that's why I chose it. Because although Derek and Stiles end up together, the fic starts and ends with the pack. And that makes it kind of perfect.

Why this must be read:

This is a wonderfully sweet fic, set after Jess gets laid off from her teaching job at the beginning of season two. The entire loft gets into Harry Potter after Jess gets a letter from Hogwarts, and it's chock full of great character voices, fun HP references, and some lovely OT4 moments.

Mischief Managed (AO3)
It’s been two weeks since Jess showed up for what she thought was going to be her first day of work for the new school year and instead learned that it was her last day of work, maybe ever. But then she gets a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...

07:07 pm Old Wounds by Maddalia (Explicit)
Fandom: THE PROFESSIONALS
Pairing: William Bodie/Ray Doyle
Length: 51,012 words
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] maddalia

Why this must be read: This story is the second one in [livejournal.com profile] maddalia's Parallel Lines series. Old Wounds is an involved story with multiple story lines. I enjoy a story that makes me think; that gives me something to sink my teeth into, and this story delivers. It has plenty of action, tension, and keeps me on the edge wondering how everything will work out.

The fabulous art embedded in the story was done by [livejournal.com profile] mella68.

I do feel that if you, as a reader, haven't read the first story of the series, Measuring Scars, that the author gives enough background to read Old Wounds as a stand alone. However if you have a hankering for a meaty series, dive right in. :)
