Title: Through the I.U.I. by Starwatcher Characters: Blair Sandburg, Jim Ellison, Hobbes Length: 6100 words Author on LJ: on Dreamwidth (see website) Author Website: at Dreamwidth and at AO3Why this must be read: This is a cute epilogue/sequel/missing scene for a Calvin & Hobbes story written by Dolimir, which can be found here. In Dolimir’s story, Calvin and Hobbes, as they grow up, theorize that they can interact with each other (but no one else can) because they exist in separate planes of existence, but occupy the same space. They decide to become brilliant scientists when they grow up in order to figure out how to join the two existences. Starwatcher’s story starts with Hobbes successfully appearing in our universe and, purely by chance wouldn’t you know, ending up on Rainier’s campus. Starwatcher writes mostly lovely slice-of-life stories that cover interesting subjects. And what could be more interesting (or more improbable), than Blair and Jim meeting the so-called imaginary friend of a little boy? I certainly would not have though this crossover possible, but she makes it work. I like that it takes the talents of both Jim and Blair to fix the situation. Enjoy. Through the I.U.I by Starwatcher (G)If you like this, take a moment to tell the author. You will absolutely make her day!

Title: The Matter in Hand by Draycevixen Pairing: William Bodie/Spock Length: 1,466 words Author on LJ: draycevixenWhy this must be read: Because it's crossover day, and it's draycevixen, and it's crack. Nobody does crack like draycevixen. What better place to rec crack then on crack_van. Besides, everybody needs a grin once in a while. The Matter in Hand

Fandom: DUE SOUTH Pairing: Ray Kowalski/Ray Vecchio Length: 10,248 words Author on LJ: belmanoirAuthor Website: Belmanoir’s fic on AO3Why this must be read:There is so much to love about this story. Reason #1, the format. Ray Kowalski is exploring the reasons he’s glad to be home from the wilds of Canada, and these reasons start with Reason #2, his best friend. I adore the way Belmanoir has drawn Ray’s friendship with Fraser. Reason #3, the reasons increasingly become about him coming to terms with his past and where he’s at. And Reason #4, ultimately, more than a few of them turn out to be about Ray Vecchio. And Belmanoir’s Ray Vecchio is one of my favourites. ( A brief excerpt )Reasons that need exploring at this juncture on AO3.

Title: Be My Voice In This World Pairing: Sherlock/John, mention of Mycroft/Anthea Author on LJ: luchia13Author Website: On ljSummary: In which Sir John of Fief Watson (aka Mad John) becomes Sir John of newly-created kind-of-a-Fief Baker Street and meets the demigod of insanity via divine intervention-slash-matchmakerness. Together they fight crime, and people explode! Why this must be read: I love all the Tortall Series by Tamora Pierce but I don’t go out of my way to find fic set in or about her books. But when I do come across such fics that are crossed over with another of my fandoms it may make me squee a little, possibly, maybe. But this author takes some of the elements that make up the Tortall world and imagines a bit more and carves out their own part in it. It is fantastical and wonderful. I feel like you don’t have to know anything about the books (although they are wonderful!) to understand and enjoy the story. Try it, you won't regret it! Be My Voice In This World

Title: Pepperwood's a Snappy Dresser by innie Pairing: gen Length: ~1k Author on LJ: innie_darlingAuthor Website: AO3, LJWhy this must be read:This is a short, fun, funny little story, where Emerson Cod meets up with Nick Miller and the two have much more in common than you might think. "Yeah, exactly, but there's a twist." Nick dropped the towel with which he'd been buffing the bar to a higher gloss to spread his hands dramatically. "All of his clients are dead."Pepperwood's a Snappy Dresser ( AO3, LJ) Emerson Cod (of Pushing Daisies) walks into a bar and meets Nick Miller (of New Girl). They have much to discuss..

Title: Passion and Profession by demon_rum Pairing: Marcus Aquila / St. John Rivers Length: ~127k Author on LJ: demon_rumAuthor Website: On AO3Why this must be read:This is one of the most elaborate and amazingly detailed fics in the fandom. It takes us into the Jane Eyre universe and follows St. John Rivers (who, like Esca, is played by Jamie Bell in the 2011 adaptation) as he travels to India and meets one Cpt. Marcus Aquilaine. Rivers is a clergyman and Marcus a soldier and the care given to painting each of those separate lives with all their complications is praise-worthy alone. Throw in what the writer does with language and period culture and you have something seriously impressive. If you're into repressed feelings and historical detail then this is a goldmine and even if you're not it's a totally engrossing and fascinating read. NB. There are three chapters of notes before the start of the story with the warnings located in the second. Passion and Profession

Title: Looking for My Heart by Rainbowrites Pairing: Clint Barton/Natasha Romanov, implied Clint Barton/Phil Coulson, implied Steve Rogers/Tony Stark, implied Pepper Potts/Tony Stark Length: 16,699 Author on LJ: rainbowritesAuthor Website: LJ or AO3Why this must be read: There are quite a few Avengers/His Dark Materials fusions, but few have done such a unique and fantastic job of matching up the Avengers with Daemons as rainbowrites does here. The depictions of Natasha's experiences with her Daemon are chilling, while Clint and Loquis just make sense. The story goes farther than just experimenting with Daemons though and stretches from the nightmares of the Red Room to the joyful absurdity of pranks in the Tower with equal skill. I particularly love the handle she has on Steve, both how he acts and how other people react to him. The story is peppered through with brief little insights that blow each of the characters wide open and expose who they are inside just as surely as their Daemons do. It's hysterical and heartbreaking and heartwarming and hot, which is always (to me) the mark of an incredibly good fic. ( Excerpt: Click for more )Title AO3 or LJAuthor's Summary: In which Natasha is a witch, and Clint's useless in a fight. That is, just because your heart's outside your body doesn't mean doesn't mean people see it.
