Why this must be read: This is a very short story, but it covers a lot of ground. It's the future, a post-col world, and Scully has to make do with what she's got.

In another age, another place, it would have been a hell of an opening line.

"Three aliens, a Mulder, and a Cancerman walk into a bar..."

In these post-Project days, of course, it's just straightforward narrative.

Why this must be read: "Fuck him."

That's the first line of the story and, quite frankly, I know of no better way to capture the attention of a reader. :)

I don't want to give away too much of the plot as that would take away from the story's main strength -- i.e., its unbelievable tension -- but suffice it to say, this is a story that'll keep you on the edge of your seat when it comes to the plot and it'll blow you away with its well scripted characerizations. Plus, the slash is really, really good.

I think I'll always remember this story for its deliciously devilish Sark, brutal yet also tender Jack, and sweet Vaughn. Oh, and there's also that eye-catching first line. ;)

Be warned, though. This is a somewhat dark story with some non-con moments. But it's also one of my all-time favorite Alias slash fics.

Why this must be read:

This is one of my all-time favourite Jack/Will fics. The voices are excellent, the dialogue snappy, and Rave doesn’t forget that Jack and Will weren’t best buddies throughout the film. Both characters are flawed, but treated with love in this story.

    Will stared at it suspiciously, then back at Sparrow. “What do I do?”

    Sparrow rolled his eyes and thumped his bare feet onto the table. “What d’you do. Idiot. You drink it! ’S why it’s in a bottle! Not complicated!”

    Life of sin, Will thought dismally, might as well go all the way, and closed his eyes, leaned his head back and tipped the bottle up.

    It hit his tongue like fire, closing off the back of his throat and making his tongue arch up in his mouth and he spluttered and spat furiously, coughing and clutching at his burning chest. “It tastes like soap!”

    “Nonsense. Thass nat’ral vitamins. And that was a waste,” and Sparrow made a grab for the bottle.

    Will snatched it protectively to his chest. “I didn’t say it was bad soap. Get your own.”

Why this must be read:

Okay. I won't lie. This story exists in large part because I harassed the author until she wrote it for me. But that's not why I love it, I swear. It's got Brian and Rome in it, Brian and Rome laughing and joking and being best friends, which is the dynamic from the movie that I adore so much. Plus, it's got Brian and Rome having sex. Yes. Kellygirl has a knack for picking up character motivations, which she does here to great effect, from Rome's point-of-view. This is a fun quick PWP, Brian and Rome washing their cars on a hot Miami day.


A wet tee shirt hits me in the chest. I pick it up and sling it onto the top of Brian's car. He scrambles for it and my eyes zero in on the way the muscles in his back move underneath his skin.

"Rome, where's my beer?"

I laugh and hold up the empty bottle.

"You slow, Brian. It's hot as hell out here and I didn't want it to go to waste."

He just rolls his eyes and finishes washing his car. I'm in a playful mood so I decide to play.

"You gone wash mine next?" I know he doesn't miss the fact that I didn't say car.

Why this must be read:

Kitt's insecurities are finally put to rest when elfin brings the original Knight Rider pair to meet the new players of Team Knight Rider. "Side by Side" highlights everything that is great and unique about Kitt; not only his capabilities, but his personality and his connection with his driver. FLAG may have created a new team to take over for an aging Michael, but they'll never quite equal the original.

This story is also good because it'll provide a quick little introduction to the TKR characters, which will come in handy for tomorrow's rec. See? I'm thinking ahead! :)
