Using the "old as Kirk and Spock" plot device of the accidental psychic bond, Spike, Tara, and Buffy first pair off to deal with their new mental intimacy before coming to the understanding that there is a deeper force at work which won't accept anything less than complete union. A post-Willow Tara finds her place with two passionate lovers and her soothing care helps push Spike and Buffy’s relationship past the "hitting each other in the head stage."

Why This Must Be Read:

Yup, another DL Witherspoon story. Last time I was up to rec Sentinel I recced one of hers and I'm doing it again. This repeat offense is due entirely to the fact that, in the Sentinel fandom, one is hard pressed to find a writer that produces such quality of fic on such a consistent basis. DL writes mainstream Sentinel stories but she also has a habit of playing with alternate realities and crossovers. In fact, her alternate realities are among my favorite Sentinel stories. This particular AU, DL takes Jim and Blair out of their traditional TV roles and drops them down into a world that's quite different. Jim is a convict. Blair a lawyer. (Yes, Blair *G*) Yet, despite the drastic changes to their lives, they are still unmistakably Jim and Blair. There's no mistaking that.

The Sentinel, like say the Magnificent Seven, is a show that lends it self well to alternate realities. The core concept of the show is highly adaptive but that doesn't always mean these alternate realities succeed. A good alternate reality is one wherein the characters are unmistakably themselves and, as I said, with DL they definitely are.

Even years later, I still go back to read these stories. The Alternate Reality series is a solid series to read and the first story which I am reccing here is the perfect example why.

Why this must be read:

DSR (Doggett/Scully romance) existed before Anne Hedonia, but it wouldn't be too far off the mark to say that she was the author who made it respectable. And while all of her stories are fantastic, this is the one that really set the stage for what came after. Written towards the beginning of S8, but set late in a S9 that could have been, but wasn't, it explores how Doggett and Scully's relationship might have developed had Mulder been missing for more than six months.

Her Doggett is noble and aware (even of his own weakness), her Scully is wounded but still standing--not ready to give up on finding Mulder, but beginning to face and accept the possibility of a life without him--and the pivotal moment in the story where the relationship becomes something more than just substitutionary is believable and heartbreakingly honest. There are no promises here, except the promise of hope.

And if that doesn't convince you to read it...how about the fact that there are die-hard Mulder/Scully 'Shippers who have read, loved and even recommended it in the past? *grin*

Why this must be read: Oh BROTHER!! This is a wonderful coming out story. I loved the emotion in this. The raw feeling it leaves in you when things go the way you expect, but not the way you want. Everything by Jat is wonderful and this is no different.

Why this must be read: Oh my. I just have no other words. This was hot, this was slightly kinky and it was majorly awesome!! I think I almost swallowed my tongue halfway through it was so very very hot. Bliss calls this a PWP and yes, it doesn't have much of a plot outside of the sex, but it does touch on a sensitive topic among couples...how to tell your partner that you want to experiment or have a fantasy. I think Bliss handled this wonderfully and very very beliveably. If that's a word... :]

Why this must be read:
I agree with Mal--Jayne and black leather is definitely a good combination. This is a smutfest that pushed several of my buttons, but it's more than a generic PWP because of the dialogue, which is so very in character that I had no trouble picturing this scene.
