Why this must be read:

Voldemort has a simple, stunning, irrefutable plan to win his war, and only Hermione understands, because Hermione knows irony when she sees it.

a brief quote )

unsticking the shadow is the perfect depiction of what happens when "we" turns into "us" and "them." Chilling, and oh-so-scarily real, with spare, lyrical prose and the desperate, sickening inevitability of a Greek tragedy, this story lingers in my mind as the realest, scariest possibility of how Voldemort could win, because it really is that simple.

Why this must be read:

This was the first piece of fanfic, which wasn't on a board or in LJ, that I gave instant feedback on. I read it, got to the end, hit the link to her email address and send feedback. I have never done that before and haven't since. This piece moved me in ways I wasn't expecting it to and I just had to tell the author. Fialka has been recced here before and really you cannot go wrong with anything she writes, in any fandom.

This takes place just after the events of Relativity during the Tayln arc of S3 and has major spoilers. So once again we are shoving the rest of this behind a cut tag. Read more... )

Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon; references to Obi-Wan/OFC, Qui-Gon/various
Author on LJ: wednesday_mc
Author Website: In My Wildest Dreams
Why this must be read:

I could have sworn this story had already been recced. Oh well, that means I get to do it!

When the end of a love affair plunges Qui-Gon into depression—“None of my lovers have ever stayed. I have tried for hours, on my knees, to make peace with the distinct possibility that none of them will ever stay”—Obi-Wan decides it’s time to take action.

I love Obi-Wan in this story. Once he’s made up his mind he doesn’t dawdle, but neither does he rush things. He’s patient, intelligent, and delightfully detail-oriented while coaxing Qui-Gon out of his shell and subtly guiding the evolution of their relationship. He’s also fiercely protective, particularly when Qui-Gon’s ex decides he wants back in: “You think that I'm a shite-shy little first-year Padawan who will shrink back and just let you have him? In your dreams, Sharat, because that's the only place you're going to screw Qui-Gon again as long as I'm around. Shall we spar?” Plus, Obi-Wan takes his master to a book fair and a hot dance club, and arranges for him to get a nice breakfast when they’re separated by a mission. Did I mention I love Obi-Wan in this story?

Fandom: STAR WARS: TPM
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon
Author on LJ: unknown
Author Website: Rough Stones
Why this must be read:

Obi-Wan is suffering from somnambulism—though suffering may not be the right word, since he’s been waking up in his master’s bed, a phenomenon that Qui-Gon has mixed feelings about.

...why in the name of the hundred little gods was Obi-Wan in his bed? )

A light, mildly humorous story in which we find “that unmistakable my-back-is-too-warm-and-my-bed-is-too-small feeling,” the standard padawan-reporting-to-the-Jedi-council-sans-uniform dream, and naked lightsaber sparring.
