Fandom: FIREFLY
Pairing: Mal/Jayne
Author on LJ: No
Author Website: Ana's Fiction

Why this must be read:
It's a plotty bit of Jayne-centric goodness, and it felt like a canon adventure. I love how the Firefly fanfic writers tend to give us the characters' backstories, and this time it's Jayne's history being played with. The slashiness is understated, so give this a try even if you don't care for slash.

09:54 pm Lark by Annie Sewell-Jennings (NC-17)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Dom/Billy, Billy/Ali
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] anniesj
Author Website: annieland
Why this must be read: Maybe it's the masochist in me, but I really enjoy stories which trick you into believing you're in for a sexy, light-hearted romp, and then yank your heart out and stomp all over it with mean stompy boots. And no one feels pain like Dom, out of place and out of sorts, jumped up on Billy viagra and in the sudden throes of unexpected and unrequited love for his best mate. Annie does such a lovely, voyeuristic spot of porn and drags the reader so deep into Dom's raw and rather pitiful headspace that I defy anyone to reach the end without cringing on his behalf. Annie also writes a likeable and believable Ali.

10:47 pm The Archer's Paradox by Empress Wu (PG-13)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Orlando/Viggo
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] empress_wu
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read: This is a lovely, funny study of Orlando's time in New Zealand as he grows in confidence in archery, acting and himself. Based around a set of spare and strangely apt archery instructions, the story progresses in light-hearted but thoughtful layers and reveals a likeable and un-nitwit-like Orlando. There are wonderful cameos from various cast and crew members, and a sweet romance that sneaks up on you.

10:51 pm Thinking by Jane (PG-17)
Fandom: Queer as Folk USA

Pairing: Brian/Justin

Author on LJ: unknown

Author Website: unknown

Why this must be read:

This story is split into two chapters, but I think each chapter works well on its own. I particularly want to recommend the second chapter, "The Pitch." I laughed out loud several times while reading this because it plays so well on the quirks and obsessions that make Brian Kinney the lovably dysfunctional mess that he is. I love fics where Brian admits how much Justin means to him, but in a completely in-character, believable way. Jane does a good job of showing us the workings of Brian's mind, and "The Pitch" sparkles with humor as well. If you enjoy this story, I heartily recommend you check out the other stories she has up at bjfic.net.

11:41 pm Just A Matter Of When by Buffonia (R)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Hannah/Elijah
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] fonia_fix
Author Website: like people do
Why this must be read: This is the sort of woodcest I like to read: dark, funny, sexy and bitter. Part of the 'Five Things' challenge that produced so many interesting lotrips stories earlier this year, this fic feels surprisingly realistic, and the first part, in which Hannah sells her brother's signed photos to her scary, squealing schoolmates, is a gem.
