05:15 am German Midget Car Porn by serialkarma (pg-13)
Fandom: THE O.C.
Pairing: Seth/Ryan
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] serialkarma

Why this really should be read:
It's funny, funny, hot and banter-ific and one of those harder to write than you think Seth and Ryan banter and have sex and things are good stories. Plus, you can't beat the title and the train of thought Seth rambles on that inspires it.

And right in the beginning: And now, as if Ryan’s presence hadn’t broadened Seth’s horizon enough, he was learning that sex in a car was almost more trouble than it was worth. But only *almost*, because he was 17-years old, and really, sex was always worth it. It better be worth it, anyway, after all the trouble he and Ryan were going through.

12:41 pm Memorandum by Sparcck (R)
Fandom: LOTRIPS
Pairing: Sean Bean/Orlando
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] sparcck
Author Website: LJ memories
Why this must be read: Memorandum is a melancholy excercise in memory that rewards a reader's close attention. Sparcck's Sean is painfully human, and his interaction with Orlando is funny and sad and real. The flawless incorporation of deja vu into the narrative gives this story the sort of familiarity and credibility that a more traditional, linear style of storytelling wouldn't achieve, and the ending (which feels more like a beginning) is beautiful.

02:19 pm Affect by Dracostella
Fandom: LOTR
Pairing: none, but Legolas/Gimli if you squint
Rating: PG
Why this must be read:

A relatively short piece set in the aftermath of the final battle, as Legolas and Gimli search for the missing Pippin. This is a wonderful look at Gimli, a character all too often neglected in fic.

02:47 pm The Possibility of a World by k (R)
Fandom: SPORTS NIGHT.
Pairing: Dan/Casey & Dan/O(f)C & Casey/O(m)C.
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy
Author Website: lowercase k collected.

Why this must be read:

I've seen this author recced before (and with obvious good reason), but this might be my favorite of her stories. It's weird for me to say that because while it is Dan/Casey, it's also not and it's written here so that not only can I tolerate Danny's OFC, but I like her and I like the relationship. The characterization is stellar and the Dan/Casey dynamic is amazing and it's different and so. good. I usually like to quote things from fics, but with this, I don't want to take anything out of context or ruin the surprise of discovering some of the amazing writing it has to offer, so just, go. read.

Fandom: X-MEN MOVIEVERSE
Pairing: Kurt/Bobby
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] thete1
Author Website: Teland
Why this must be read:

Te's Kurt just slays me – there are few other writers around who come close to showing as much insight into his character, who can just get his voice so perfect. This fic didn't make me feel like I was reading about him from someone else's point of view; for me, at least, it's one of those rare gems where you can really hear, and feel, and be the character in question.

The writing itself is gorgeously, wonderfully evocative – the kind of stuff you can just lose yourself in, with an undercurrent of harsh reality humming just beneath the surface.

And, while the pairing is one that I'd never considered, I must say that, by the end, I bought it (at least within the boundaries of this particular story). Even if the pairing is not your cup of tea, however, I still highly recommend that you give it a shot; it's definitely more of a character study than a pairing-based fic, and is very much accessible to those who prefer gen over slash.

Fandom: Angel
Author lj: [livejournal.com profile] thete1
Author's Website: Teland
Pairing: Angel/Cordelia
Rating: NC-17
Why this must be read:

I think that one of the characteristics of an outstanding story are the fact that four years later, even though you can't remember the author (or even the title in this case, boy was that fun to track down) it's still stayed with you. Te is a fantastic writer, I'm not sure that any one in the fandom needs to be told that and this little vignette is just so utterly, perfectly dangerous that it's stuck with me all this time.

Set vaguely in season two, Cordelia's on her period and Angel's... a vampire.

The last line kills me.

05:59 pm Another Life by inamorata (NC-17)
Fandom: Angel
Author website: Shine
Pairing: Angel/Cordelia
Rating: NC-17
Why this must be read:

This is a superb and confident AU. Los Angeles is at city at its most ugly and Angel and Cordelia are the dark shadows of their canon selves but still hauntingly believable.

Cordelia doesn't meet Angel at the party and consequently, her life (and Angel's) take a very different route. Oddly enough, and I can't quite put my finger on why, there's something beautiful about this story.

Go and read it now. Run, don't walk, but have a box tissues handy.

06:01 pm The Ninth Circle by Mess (R)
Fandom: Angel
Pairing: Wesley/Lilah
Rating: R
Why this must be read:

Possibly one of the best openings to any story in the fandom. Mess doesn't just write, she plays with language and the whole thing is quotable. The characterisation is spot on for both Wesley and Lilah but her Wesley is especially good. The Ninth Circle is a very clever and thought-provoking examination of the nature of evil - and the relationship between Wesley and Lilah. I think this might be one of the best investigations into their relationship - Mess spares neither of them and the story is stronger for that.
