Why this must be read:

I've been waiting for Crossover day, I had my fic all picked out. Then when the 15th finally comes I space out and almost forget. If I hadn't seen all the other's posted I would have forgotten entirely. It's just a teensy bit late. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

In this fic Sam leaps into the body of Duncan MacLeod. The main thing I like about this fic is how quickly Methos figures out that something is wrong. That this person may look like Duncan, but clearly isn't. There's no Methos wanting to fool around with this "new person" in Duncan's body. All Methos wants is to know what in the hell is going on and where his lover is. There is a real sense of how connected Duncan and Methos are in this story, of just how much they love one another.

Loving both of these shows doesn't hurt anything either. I think both fandoms work well for this crossover and all the characters come out as very true to who they are. All this combined makes this one of my favorite crossovers.

Title: The Mountie Who Fell to Earth by Josephine Darcy
Pairing: Jim/Blair, Ray K./Fraser
Author on LJ: Unknown
Author Website: Josephine's Place

Why this must be read: Out of all the genres of fiction I think crossovers tend to be one of my least favorites. Why? I think it takes a very talented author to know both universes so well to write exceptionally in both of them. You have to know all the characters, not just a few.

Which is why on Crossover Rec day, I normally don't have a review. But today is different!

This story comes from the first season of The Sentinel Virtual Slash Season Online. In the story, Jim and Blair are an established couple and Fraser and Ray come to town working a case and the four men become involved (no, not that kind of involved, get your minds out of the gutter! *g*)

I like this story because we see Ray and Fraser from Jim and Blair's point of view, as partners who are just beginning to realize their feelings for one another and are about to step over the line from friendship to romantic love. Jim and Blair have been exactly in the same place before they gave into their feelings and so they understand Ray and Fraser's hesitation and misgivings.

What else I also like is that you really don't need to be a fan of The Sentinel to read this story. All you have to know is that Jim Ellison is a cop in Cascade, Washington who has enhanced senses. Blair is his partner and guide (he helps control the senses) and they love each other. Just like Fraser and Ray, Jim and Blair are polar opposites, yet quite similar and are men deeply committed to each other and their work.

It's an enjoyable read -- and gives me an excuse to use my TS icon. *g*

Why this must be read:
Ron and Snape-centric gen isn't something one finds often, and this story is both long and very readable, even for a non-chess player. This Ron is appealingly sympathetic without seeming older or nicer than he really is, and his concerns seem so in character. The Snape in this story is cranky but distantly caring of his charge's safety. There's a well-crafted plot and subplot: Ron and Snape go to the Wizard's Chess Championship in Bulgaria, and Snape has an Order of the Phoenix mission to complete while he also competes in the tournament. (Snape as a former chess prodigy works for me. And this shared interest is one of the few ways that I can see Snape ever respecting Ron, besides his learning to appreciate Ron's fighting spirit and loyalty.)

11:09 am *NSYNC/Sports Night (not rated but possibly PG)
Title The New Alternative by Amuse
Pairing: Chris Kirkpatrick/Dan Rydell
Author on LJ: ?
Author Website: ?
Why this must be read:

An *NSYNC/ Sports Night crossover? Sounds unbelievable, doesn't it? And it totally shouldn't work, should it? Yet for some strange reason it does.

Chris Kirkpatrick is feeling somewhat lost. The other guys in the group are starting to move on to new things and he's not sure where his post *NSYNC life will take him. A guest spot on a sports show gives him the opportunity to try his hand at football commentary, but when that doesn't pan out, he's given another chance in the form of Natalie Hurley who puts him in touch with Dan Rydell, former Sports Night anchor and now the host of a radio sports show.

Dan himself has been feeling a little lost since Sports Night ended and Casey moved to Chicago. But he's getting on with life and doing what he needs to do and when he meets Chris a tentative bond is formed.

The New Alternative is very much a tale of a man finding himself again after the most important thing in his life has started to fade. Through out it you watch Chris interact with his former band mates, recognising that they're all moving on and trying not to cling too much to the past. But at the same time he's not content to be yet another boy band has-been. He wants to make it on his own, and with a little help from Dan, it might just work out after all.

Why this must be read: I appologize for the delay, we had an emergency trip out of town that lasted waaaay longer than I ever expected!! Better late than never!!

This is one of my favorite stories in Smallville. I love the humor and the circumstances just kill you! This does have a spit warning, so watch your moniters!!

The authors summary:  I firmly believe that the base premise of this fic is completely out of character for both of them, so you don't have to write and tell me. You know what? It was fun to write anyway. I do think that if they *were* to somehow allow themselves to be in this situation, this is exactly how they'd react, the poor bastards.

So on with the story!!

Why this must be read: I love future fics with the boys. Especially after last season. I love seeing how authors contrive to get them back together and how long they've been apart. This one hits all my buttons. It's got Lex being evil and Clark disapearing into Superman. It's a great read! Hope you enjoy :)

Why this must be read:

Doing my best to prove that not all Oz fic is dark and depressing, this time I’m reccing one of my all time favorite AUs by one of the best and certainly one of the most prolific Oz writers out there. Rebecca a.k.a. Riley Cannon is the queen of the Oz AU. She has this uncanny knack of capturing the pure essence of Beecher and Keller and transporting them anywhere. In this story, she takes them out for a Halloween adventure that is equal parts funny, creepy and romantic. One of Rebecca’s greatest gifts is her ability to create the perfect setting for whatever story she is telling. Here she weaves a tale so rich with details you’re caught in the web right along with Chris and Toby. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll end this with the below snippet.

Fandom: POTC
Pairing: Norrington/Gillette
Author on LJ: [livejournal.com profile] commodoresexual
Author Website: Is (currently?) down; her other fics can be found here, here and here.
Why this must be read:

Because it was written by Wren! Really, that's all you need to know. I haven't disliked anything I've read by her.
...What, you want a better summary than that? Well, fair enough. 'Rant' takes its name from Gillette's habit of ranting (often in French, which is fun for those of us qui parle le francais) at Norrington when he worries Gillette. What he would *like* to be in the habit of is kissing Norrington, but unfortunately he has never worked up the courage to reveal his true feelings, despite Bush's encouragement. Enter Lady Susan, a predatory woman who has set her sights on Norrington. Gillette and Bush are suspicious, and take it upon themselves to protect Norrington. Norrington, however, is not particularly interested in Lady Susan, as he has recently discovered that his heart is already taken...

Note: This was written before Wren learnt that Groves' name *was* Groves; therefore she called him Bush.

The first part, Chapter 1 - Rant, can be found here; follow the links at the bottom to the next part. It's five parts and an epilogue in total.
